What do you get when you mix a Great Dane, a Cat From Outer Space, and a
kid with a skunk?
Classic Disney movies of course!
These days Disney may be best-known for its amusement parks and animated films, but back before Tarzan; before Beauty and the Beast; back in the same era as Sleeping Beauty and other true Disney animated classics come movies like:
The Ugly Dachshund
The Cat From Outer Space
Hot Lead, Cold Feet
The Parent Trap (the original)
The Absent-Minded Professor
The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes
and so much more!
These movies feature a number of familiar actors, such as Dean Jones (who may be best known for starring in a number of 1960s Disney films) and Hayley Mills (who got her start in Pollyanna and is well-known for playing both parts in that original Parent Trap). Other familiar names include Agnes Moorehead, Fred MacMurray (who also starred in the TV series My Three Sons), as well as comedians Tim Conway and Don Knotts.
Welcome to the Special Feature focusing on Disney movies from the 1930s to
the mid 1980s! Anything from The Love Bug (which introduced the popular Herbie) to Miracle of the White Stallions! Tell us which ones you’ve seen, and which ones are your favorites.
Please no animated movies. This is strictly live action.
Let the discussion begin!
(Thanks to starkat for writing much of this introduction)
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I've seen two in that list-- The Parent Trap and The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. We own quite a few more I'm sure...
The Barefoot Executive
Swiss Family Robinson??
Um... My mind is going blank. But I know there's more.

Don Knotts is so funny and so GOOD! He was in so many of those movies.
My favorite of these has got to be The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men. Best. Robin Hood. EVER!
I also watched Escape to Witch Mountain a few weeks ago and enjoyed it very much. They just don't do dialogue that well any more!

I've watched both of the Apple Dumpling Gang movies, and some friends are trying to get us to go visit them, and watch The Love Bug.

Are Kidnapped! and Old Yeller Disney movies? If so, I love those movies! Also, I like Swiss Family Robinson.
"Are you sure you're eighteen?"
"Why? Do I look older?"
Old Yeller is.
I do believe that Disney put out a Kidnapped, but cannot say when.
I suppose Bedknobs, and Broomsticks, as well as Mary Poppins do not count since they had some animation?
Disney did make Kidnapped. There's this preview thing before the classic disney movies from the special set and it plays this really memorable song along with clips from the classic movies with their names. Kidnapped was on there.
We're watching The Shaggy D.A. tonight and I'm finding it lame. The plotline is only loosely tied together. Blech. And the funny parts aren't that funny. It's such a shame, too, because it has Dean Jones and I like him!
I'd almost forgotten about That Darned Cat! That was a really funny movie. I think it had Hayley Mills in it, but I don't remember exactly.
The Swiss Family Robinson is, to say the least, GREAT! What a cool movie! The acting was great, the story was neat, and the way they built their house in the trees and defended against the pirates was SO COOL! Francis was my favorite. Him and his animals.

^^ Totally agree about the Swiss Family Robinson. And when they're all dancing and the guys keep cutting in on each other because they all want to dance with the girl.
I have to concur, Swiss Family Robinson was an awesome film. I enjoyed most of the films listed here, but have to give a shout out to the Disney nature film Perri, starring a squirrel of the same name. It sounds hokey but it was actually a pretty good film. I haven't seen it in years beyond count though and can't seem to locate it anywhere...

Ah, yes. Classic live-action Disney, arguably the golden age of the company.
Some of my favorites include:
The Three Lives of Thomasina--this one is on my top ten list. The book is (of course) better, but the film really captures almost everything in the book even though the timeline is condensed.
Mary Poppins--most critics and film historians think this is Disney's best movie ever. To a certain extent, I agree.
Pollyanna--in some ways, I like this one even better than the book.
Swiss Family Robinson--do I need to explain why I like this one?
Old Yeller--such a bittersweet story, but handled very well.
There are a lot more that I really like. Come to think of it, there are only a handful of classic Disney movies that I don't like.
I'd almost forgotten about That Darned Cat! That was a really funny movie. I think it had Hayley Mills in it, but I don't remember exactly.
Yes, it does. If I am remembering correctly, That Darned Cat was Hayley Mill's last Disney film.
Davy Crockett: King of the wild frontier
Old Yeller
Swiss Family Robinson
would be my favorites
