Okay tomorrow i need to go find this book at the store or library so I can sit down and read it. I'm very determined now to see the events rather then the movies perspective.
Long Live King Caspian & Queen Liliandil Forever!

^^ you should! the book is very well worth reading! I think Leslie's death is far more sad in the 2007 version of the movie than the book, but that's just my personal opinion.
I am going to watch the new version of the movie again.....it's been way too long! I need to see it again!

Haha how long LH, about two days?
I know it is good. I keep saying everyday when I wake up I'm going to have to watch BTT again and I can never find the time to sit and watch it. I need to try tonight.

I love the part in the new movie where May Belle says "It's a free country!" when Jess and Leslie don't want her to come with them

Have you read the book and do you own it?
I read the book after I saw the movie (the new one) and yes, I own it. I can't actually remember it that clearly, but it's a really good book.
Have you seen the 1985 version of the movie?
I didn't know there was one.. but judging by other people's comments, it's not that great, so I probably won't watch it.
Have you seen the newer version of the movie?
Twice. I knew that

have you read the book and do you own it? Yes, I have read the book, having borrowed it from the library. I don't own the book, and I don't remember if I bought it at some stage for one of my children. If they have a copy I will borrow it back.
have you seen the 1985 version of the movie? No. It never occurred to me to watch it at the time, even if I noticed it was on the movies. I guess I was busy.
have you seen the newer version of the movie? Of course I saw this movie. I borrowed it from the video shop and enjoyed the movie immensely.
By the way, Liberty Hoffman, thank you for the thread. I thought of one such thread but didn't know whether it belonged in this forum or the talk of narnia forum, since this book & its movie so openly refers to the Narnia chronicles.
I'll admit I'm a Terebithia newbie. I've only seen the 2007 movie version, though good friends have described the book and how it compares to the movie to me. .....
The thing I remember most is that the father, Jack Aarons, struck me as kind of a 'grumpy old man' (especially, for example, in the greenhouse scene). .....
edit: clarification, inspired by GtG's question below: I'm not picking on the actor for his portrayal of the father; in fact, he shows versatility in the two roles I mention here. I figured he was mean in the book, or at least in the movie script. It's the way he treats Jesse that annoys me a little, but I understand he was written that way.
I think the father in the book/movie had every right to behave the way he did, since he had a long trip to and from the job he had taken to support the family. He did seem a bit unfair to me at first. Like his wife he seems to favour the elder girls too much, in comparison with Jesse, but I realise that he was strictest with Jesse because he was so strict on himself, that being how he saw being a man entailed.
And I noticed some of the symbolism and such that flew over my head a few years ago, which made me appreciate the story a lot more. She really is a good writer! I think it was the 70s-and-redneck-ness of the book that turned me off, both of which the movie removed, so.
It all depends on what you mean by 'redneck-ness' of the book. Wherever you go, country communities are often considered conservative sorts of people, sometimes suspicious of 'outsiders', and staunchly loyal to their own community, not necessarily to the point of racism. In the seventies it was far more common for children to get a belting from their parents, sometimes for discipline but not always, in the days before people started talking about 'child abuse'. And it was bad form for children to complain about it. As the book also makes clear, it wasn't exactly the most prosperous farming area which is depicted - more like one that was struggling to keep going, if it wasn't for the fathers having city jobs.
Lesley's family seem to be escapes from the City; if you want short-hand names for groups of people, you could call them 'basket weavers'.
By the way, Liberty Hoffman, thank you for the thread.
you are welcome! I wasn't sure how well it would turn out, but it seems that a lot of people like it!
I just got the DVD of the newer version out of the library again! I am going to watch it this week!

"Two sides of the same coin"
Josh Hutcherson is awesome in the scene when Jesse's dad is hugging him and he's bawling his eyes out after Leslie's died. I mean, wow! he has tears pouring down his face and it just about broke my heart to watch it!
he did an awesome job as Jess!

Your right LH. Josh Hutcherson could seriously act and it was very believable in that scene starting from the point where he goes to the creek where

Gosh. I can't believe that acting really is hard especially when crying. . but I really liked the movie! two thumbs up!!!
"Two sides of the same coin"
Well sometimes in acting with some actors they stop acting and start realizing the situation as if it was real life and going on at that moment. I can tell Josh Hutcherson is one of those actors because he is very believable.
