I'm not exactly familiar with the original legend itself, so I have a feeling I'm missing out. Is there.. erm, a way to become familiar with it? I'm a bit clueless, I know.
Definitely! There have been hundreds, possibly thousands of retellings of the Arthur legend, but there are some more noteworthy than others. If you have a taste for medieval literature, you can try Malory's Le Morte D'Arthur or some of the poetry/Arthurian romances of the era. After that, there are countless other reworkings. I read Roger Lancelyn Green's children's book on Ly's recommendation and it was a great introduction. Possibly the most famous retelling is TH White's The Once and Future King. The Disney film The Sword and the Stone was based off of the first part of it. I haven't read it, but it's sitting on my shelf and I just got very in the mood to start it, so maybe I will.
So, I randomly decided to start watching Merlin today. I just finished the second episode, and I'm loving it so far!
The downsides are that none of it is very historically accurate--the fabrics, some of the dresses, the dialougue...and some of the special effects are very wince-able, but somehow despite that I still really like it. Which means it must be good
"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring." Marilyn Monroe
I finished the rest of the 2nd season!
Turns out I only had 3 episodes to go.
I really enjoyed the ending, even though it was
"I know I can't be your friend, because I'm a prince, but if I wasn't a prince.."
"what?"
"I reckon we'd get along"
Or something like that, anyway.
Those two can never say anything straight, can they?
I am currently anxiously awaiting the 3rd season. September, right?
Thanks for the info, Kate. I'll definitely check something out sometime. ( ) I'm actually reading this trilogy of books right now, and I think it incorporates some of the Arthurian legends into it, although I haven't quite reached that part yet.
Valiant Lucy, it gets better. I felt similarly about the first couple of episodes (in terms of the special effects), but started liking it more later on. And apparently you already do like it.

The dragon is a pretty cool special effect. He looks real and the way Colin Morgan talks to the Dragon makes him look even more realistic. I know Aslan's Country! The ending to the season 2 finale was

Oddly enough, the first time I ever heard of this awesome TV series I was considering using a few of the characters for RPing , unfortunately a few other rappers caught on and my plot failed .
My favorite character of iMerlin would be Arthur surprisingly enough. For the same reasons my favorite Narnia character is Prince Cor. I can relate to not only his cocky and arogant attitude but also his rare shining moments, those are the moments I love (for both me and him )
If you ain't first, you're last.
Where I live we are still up to Season 2. It is awesome
'For when they tried to look at Aslan's face they just caught a glimpse of the golden mane and the great, royal, solemn, over-whelming eyes; and then they found they couldn't look at him and went all trembly.'
Please note that this Special Feature will be closing Friday, June 18. For further discussion on BBC's Merlin after this date, see the Television thread. Thanks!

Pity, I'm too late.
I've only seen a bit of Merlin, but I like what I've seen. I've heard a lot about it here on NWeb (yeah, you guys do influence me in my real life), so I watched a bit of the second season. Slightly corny at moments, but good. I hope to see it all someday.
I definitely want to see more of Asa Butterfield as Morodred--he's exceptional. Truly, though, it's Merlin and Arthur who are carrying the series, IMO. I enjoy both performances.
Hmmmm...well, Beginte, I suppose they could bring in the Sword in the Stone aspect if they Maybe something like that?
Sounds like an idea, indeed contesting Arthur's right to the throne could 'work', especially if some of his enemies (or people in general) start questioning his right as Uther's son - in the show his origin is not exactly typical, while according to Sir Malory's La mort d'Arthur his inception is at least... um... morally debatable But that scenario also assumes Merlin would suddenly have to gain a great load of respect from the people and appear to them as authority... hmm...
I've seen the movie 9 times!!! (PC)
I've seen the movie 7 times!!! (VoDT) And loved it!
