"In a land of myth and a time of magic, the destiny of a great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy. His name?"

Merlin

Here you can discuss the literally spellbinding TV show. :) And speculate about the upcoming 3rd season that we're all thrilled about. ;)

I've just been getting into Merlin! I've watched three episodes from Season 1.

Merlin himself is the best! He's so awesome and cool, not completely confident, but great nonetheless. Arthur is a capital jerk, but little bits of his personality have already started to peek out and I can definitely see depth. Colin Morgan (Merlin) is an excellent actor. Plus he has an extremely Irish name. How much cooler can you get?

I've ordered Merlin: The Complete First Season from the library to watch while I'm recovering from getting all my wisdom--er, I mean, my wisdom teeth--yanked out. So excited!

Did ya'll hear that it was inspired by Smallville?

I've really enjoyed watching Merlin and following the characters through their funny little adventures. Merlin is perhaps a little corny at times, but it's very endearing and the show is driven by the fun characters and their complex and ever-changing relationships with one another.

I thought the second season measured up well with season one, so I'm looking forward to season 3.

My new favourite show! I've only watched the first season so far, but I love it. King Arthur is my favourite character of all time, so of course I was bound to like it, but I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. I meant to start on the second season right away, but then my little brother wanted to watch it, so we just had to go all the way back to the beginning. ;) It is rather cheesy, but we enjoy it.

Like sweeet said, I like what they've done with Arthur - how he's a jerk but he has these shining moments every now again - especially at the end of episodes 4 & 11. But my favourite character in the series is probably Morgana. She's always so complex and interesting and I find her fascinating. I love how all the characters interact with each other, working towards the same thing without really knowing it.

One of my favourite episodes was Excalibur (even though they

killed off Owain and Pelinore [was it Pelinore? I can't quite remember]
!!!) because they managed to bring in the sword early on in the story, and yet they still set it up so that they can go along with the myth later on.

I can't wait to watch the second season!

I was interested in the show as soon as I heard of it, but had to wait until last summer when NBC released the show in the States to watch it. :) I watched the first 7 episodes in as close to a single sitting as I could get (I was away and we'd recorded them) and was hooked. ;)) I've since seen Season 2 as well, and am greatly looking forward to the third series. :)

I like most of the characters, but probably my favourite is Arthur. :) Least favourite of the main four is probably Morgana, which some people will probably kill me for. :P Most of the time, she just seemed whiny and selfish. She has her moments/episodes, and I know she's in a difficult position, but still... :P ;))

Morgan is actually a Welsh name! :D

Interesting to read that it was inspired from Smallville though.
I haven't been watching Merlin, because I thought it was going to be like Legend of the Seeker, which I found to be disappointing drivel (clearly I wasn't the target audience ;) ).

Will have to try to find DVD copies too!

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

It is? How interesting! At least I made my guess somewhere in the British Isles. :P

Yes--The creators of Merlin thought that the idea of exploring what a classic character was like in his youth was really cool, and so applied it to Merlin!

You should check it out, Coracle--at least one episode. Its pretty well done, in my opinion. Then and again, I've only watched three episodes. :P

You all may find me horrible (as RyRy does :p ), but I haven't seen season one yet.

I know, I know! I like to see things in the correct order. However, I can't help it if the Sy Fy channel decided to start with the second season. =))

All I knew, is that I liked the legends (the ones I've heard anyway), loved watching "The Sword and the Stone" as a kid, and that lots of Nwebbers had been talking about it. So, when I saw it was going to start showing it, I got excited... to put it mildly. ;)) Anyway, I really love what I've seen so far (I think it's mostly through the second season, by now). And I can't wait to see season one! (I aim to catch up on them at some point, whether online or dvd. but things are hectic at this time of the year, so I can't guarantee when)

Is it presumptious (sp?) of me to think I want to own the dvds, even though I've not even seen a whole season yet? 8-|

I can't wait to discuss this more, with all of you! :D

p.s. Sorry for my extreme overuse of smilies.

I enjoy Merlin, not overly, but it's a good thing to watch occasionally, and I must say I find myself quite impatient to watch the 3rd season :D The only problem is, to my forsaken country all series come with big delay (Doctor Who is in the middle of the third season... need I say more...), so I'm condemned to watching the episodes on YouTube, better than nothing, I suppose.

I like to think that this series is for people who know the Arthurian legends, serving to entertain them with showing a 'what if' scenario ;)

Ah, a'propos the original... I'm very, very wondering how on earth will they pitch in the whole Sword-In-Stone motif, since it's a very big part of the Arthurian legends, but I don't see it happening with this scenario they have... unless what - Uther dies, Arthur goes missing, meanwhile Merlin gains some big authority among people and brings Arthur out of the hiding (possibly having told him to flee for his life, why am I thinking Caspian and Cornelius...?) and by the Sword-In-Stone performance proves Arthur to be king? :- Intrigued...

I've seen the movie 9 times!!! (PC)

Well, Auntie, it's not really that close to the original legend, but it's a good romp. ;)) I'd love to hear your thoughts if you got a chance to see it. :)

Not presumptuous, PA, but merely intrigued. ;) I'd like to own the dvds at some point, but it's not like I have the money for it, so... ;))

Hmmmm...well, Beginte, I suppose they could bring in the Sword in the Stone aspect if they Maybe something like that? ;;)

I love this show!! I watch it almost religiously every friday on syfy. Technically its my second or even third time watching season 2 because i saw it on youtube but it never gets old. I absolutely cannot wait for season 3 and since I'm in the U.S I really really hope syfy will take it up again. My favorite episode would have to be The Last Dragonlord. I just really like Merlin in that episode and I love the ending how they're walking like equals (lol i don't want to spoil it for everyone but its a really good episode).

Arthur is an incredible clot pole...whtever that means...just putting it out there..

oh and <3 Colin Morgan..his irish accent..yum..lol

Team Edward and Team Jacob are overrated. I'm Team Avatar!

I'm currently getting Stargate SG-1 on Netflix; when it's done I am thinking about getting Merlin. I've heard enough good things about to convince me to overlook the differences between it and the majority of Arthurian mythology.

A Merlin SF?! How did I miss it for so long? :-o

The first time I heard about Merlin, it was a short promo for the upcoming first season on...PBS, I think? The "young boy" tagline was all over the promo, and I remember thinking, "Oh great, another cheesy story about some kid with superpowers." It didn't cross my mind again until I started to see Merlin fans popping up all over Narniaweb. So I decided to give episode 1 a dubious try. Needless to say, I discovered how very wrong I was. ;)) I went through season 1 in about three days and waited far too impatiently for each episode of season 2 to air. :p

The strength of the show is definitely in its characters. Which I like! It's refreshing to have a show so centered around genuine relationships, rather than action scenes or soap-opera drama. :)

Favorite character? Easily Merlin. He's just so adorkable. ;)) And yet he has such loyalty and fire under the goofy exterior. He may be "just Merlin", but you don't want to mess around with him. ;) Plus, Colin Morgan is a fantastic actor! (For everyone who thought he was good in season 1 and hasn't seen season 2, just wait. He goes from excellent to brilliant. :D )

So, I'm excited for season 3! :D What is everyone hoping to see (or not see) happen?

I'm hoping to see more of Mordred, but that's probably just me. ;) :P

I love this show so much! Really, like Other Kate once said "it's horribly inaccurate but deliciously marvelous" (paraphrase there). The characters are developed so well and I love how they interact.

One character that I absolutely hate is the Dragon. Then Uther. Then Morgana. I don't know, something about her grates my nerves. I think part of it is her voice. Katie McGrath is Irish and so her English accent is a bit off. She also comes off as whiny a lot. But her dresses are gorgeous, so I'll forgive her. :P

Colin Morgan is fantastic as Merlin, and Bradley James is brilliant as Arthur. Yes, Arthur was a jerk at the beginning, but he's really grown. I loved watching that. Gwen is pretty cool too, despite the fact that she's a blacksmith's daughter and not a noblewoman like in the original legend. It gives more drama to the whole Arthur/Gwen thing, I suppose. :P

I like Gaius a lot, but he's really got to fix that eyebrow. (If you're a real fan of the show, you know what I mean. ;) :P)

But I'm afraid my all-time favorite character is Mordred. I've always been fascinated by his character, and Asa Butterfield is such an amazing little actor with such incredible blue eyes that I fell in love the moment he appeared in his episode. I've watched his episodes more than once. ;)) I can't wait to see what the writers have in store for him.

I'm partway through season 2 at the moment. Sadly, I'm also confined to watching it on Youtube, but I really do enjoy it. :)

Sure, they're a little repetitive at times (Merlin saves Arthur's life practically every episode) but I've found it getting better as the second season has gone on.

My favourite character is either Merlin or Arthur, probably Merlin - he's so funny. ;))

I'm not exactly familiar with the original legend itself, so I have a feeling I'm missing out. Is there.. erm, a way to become familiar with it? :p I'm a bit clueless, I know.
