If the dub is horrible or merely okay, I much prefer subs. If it's a quality dub, I'm good with either dub or sub. Generally Studio Ghibli movies are very well dubbed, so I watch them in either option. If I'm doing something else (chopping up fruit or doing the dishes etc.) while watching anime, then I absolutely need to watch the dubbed version (I'm a guy after all). :p

Most of the series I watch are online, so I don't need the dub to keep up. With Naruto in particular, the English dub voices are awful. Shikamaru, usually my favorite character, really grated on me. And they're way behind in the series anyway-only up to the Hidan and Kakuzu arc. I guess nobody knows enough Japanese to watch the episodes raw?

Any other Naruto fans out there? Right now the anime is up to the Five Kage Summit Arc, while the manga is at Here are some discussion points:

-For manga readers, do you think the current arc will be the end of the series? It seems like they're gearing up for an epic final showdown between Naruto, Sasuke, and Madara. Will this be where things get resolved, or will Kishimoto pull a Bleach and drag the series out further?

-What do you think will ultimately happen to Sasuke? Is he the tragic character of the series doomed to die? Or will Naruto be able to reach him and save him? Will he come back to Konoha if he is spared? Will the village take him back? Or will he find redemption in death?

-Any other deaths you have predicted for the end of the series?

-The elephant in the room: romance. Will Naruto end up with Sakura or Hinata (sorry NaruIno and NaruTen fans, but it's just not happening)? Who do you want to see Naruto end up with? Any other pairings you want to see?

*gasp* Did someone say ANIME???? :D

1. Favorite manga and/or anime?

It's a tie for me between Axis Powers Hetalia and Cowboy Bebop, though Samurai Champloo is a close second.

2. Favorite style?

I am a fan of more realistic human anatomy, but I don't mind the odd chibi. :D Anything with a historical theme, though I don't mind science fiction like Evangelion. Also, I'm more into movies than TV shows, so for movies I like anything done by Studio Ghilbli, Spirited Away and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind in particular. I like Avatar: The Last Airbender too, though it's not really true anime. :p

3. Anime/manga that you have seen/read before

Axis Powers Hetalia (FUNNIEST. SHOW. EVER. =)) If you can ignore certain subtexts and don't mind cursing, then you'll do just fine with this show. Both the dub and the sub are excellent), Neon Genesis Evangelion (never got to finish it, unfortunately), Samurai Champloo (this either), Cowboy Bebop (I LIKE ED! :D enough said), Sailor Moon (my favorite show when I was a little girl), The Girl who Leapt Through Time, Beyblade, Yu-Gi-Oh! (the Abridged version was better ;) ), Medabots (that was a fun show, though the voices are annoying), Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Steamboy, Whispers of the Heart, The Cat Returns...um, I'll think of more later. :)

4. Who got you interested, or did you start watching/reading anime/manga by yourself?

I grew up watching Sailor Moon, Beyblade and Medabots, enough said. ;)

5. Favorite quotes?

"No man can escape his fate. He can only rise up to meet it." - Oracle, Princess Mononoke

"Man up or I'll beat you with my Peace Prize!" - Switzerland, Axis Powers Hetalia

"PASTA!" Italy, Axis Powers Hetalia

Welcome to Narniaweb, Ozymandias! Glad you found a thread to your liking!

I think that's really interesting that several people prefer subs over dubs. I honestly thought more people would prefer dubs, since the anime site I use has a lot of people who prefer dubs. I guess it just depends on the viewer. I like subs because of all the stuff I'm learning about the Japanese language and culture. I really like all of the editor's notes and stuff explaining different cultural things that wouldn't come through in the dubs. In fact, a lot of those things are left out or changed in the dubs so there wouldn't be any confusion. I prefer being able to learn new things. :)

Well, the thing with subs or dubs is that a lot of anime fans don't tend to like dubs because, sadly more often than not, the dubs are done really, really horribly. For example, whenever I think of really awful dubs, the first thing that pops into my mind is 4kid's 'One Piece' dub, followed by the Cloverway dub of 'Sailor Moon'. X( However, there is the occasional dub that actually outdoes the original Japanese sub, like Axis Powers Hetalia (because of the accents that correspond with each country more than the content) and COWBOY BEBOP'S DUB, which was so good that it needs to be capitalized. :D Sub vs. Dub usually depends on the viewer, so your mileage may vary.
