Speaking of Jared and Novacom, I was reminded of another one of my favorite quotes today. From "A Strange Boy in a Strange Land":

Mandy: "You remember how Jared used to lurch forward when he ran?"

Sarah: "You know where lurching is common? In crazy people. There was a crazy person watching us."

Mandy: "It wasn't a crazy person, it was Jared!"

*pause*

Sarah: "Do you realize what you just said?"

It actually took me a while (like up until a few weeks ago) to really get what Sarah meant by that. :))

P.S."Brooklyn!"

;)) I think bringing Jared back was the best part of the Novacom saga.

daughter of the King, Darkness was the best? You mean it isn't any more? :p

whoops. It is, it is, it is the best!

Dr. Blackguard was a really cool villain. It was neat to see how he permeated every episode that he was in, but I never quite understood why he wanted to take over Odyssey. /:)

He didn't want to take over Odyssey the first time, just Whit's End because he wanted . The second time he wanted

I also love how in this series of episodes, as well some others, the writers didn't feel like they needed to dumb down these stories just because the show's target audience is 8-12 year olds. Sure, not every 8 year old will be able to appreciate everything in albums like this one, but that's one of the great things about Odyssey - it can "grow up" with you. As you get older, you realize lots of great lessons and stuff that may have just went over your head when you were younger... it least that's been my experience :) One of my fears for the upcoming episodes is that they will be more dumbed down... :(( . I hope not!

Agreed on all points. That is one of the things that sets Odyssey apart.

Agreed about the not dumbing down part! When I was little and listened to the Darkness Before Dawn episodes, I either listened with my parents or things went straight over my head. Now when I listen to them, I pick up lots of things that I missed before- which is great, cause then they never get old!

Haha, I love those quotes, Ryan! And you're right; Arem was earlier than that, when they were at the Connellsville Whit's End, etc.

Adventures In Odyssey is a radio drama, but I've never thought of it like that. I've thought of it as being a whole seperate world, with real kids. I sort of figured that somehow (I didn't know how, didn't really care :P) I could listen to their lives.

Has anyone gotten the Adventures In Odyssey Gold CD collections? They've got all of the earlier album episodes, plus bonus features. I quite enjoy them. :D

*finally drops in*
I don't like the new voice for Whit. My sister and I agree he reminds us of someone from "Wind in the Willows." I think it was Mole...
My favorite charater, hands down, is Wooton. He's hilarious, but he also definatly has his head screwed on strait. He won't compromise his beliefes, but he can also smash the old and incorrect assumption that Christians are boring. :p
My favorite family is the Washingtons. I think I just relate to crazy people. :p I actually had never noticed Marvin's oinks, until my sister pointed them out to me. Now they crack me up!
My sister and I and narnian_at_heart and her sibs used to dish out parts and quote "A License to Drive" whenever we were bored, with both sides of any arguments. I don't remember the whole thing anymore, but I still remember my favorite scene:

Connie: This is the key. Say it.

Eugene: Say it?

Connie: That's right, say it.

Eugene: Ms. Kendall, I hardly think that it's nessesary...

Connie (interrupts): Eugene, I'm the instructor, you're the student. I make the rules. Now say it, what is this?

Eugene: A key.

Connie: Very good. And it goes in this slot here which is called the ignition. Say it.

Eugene: Ms. Kendall, I...

Connie: Say it.

Eugene: Ignition.

Connie: OK. When we put the key in the ignition to start the car, we always turn it away from us. What direction do we turn the key?

Eugene: Awaaay from us.

Connie: Very good. Now let's reveiw for just a moment.

Eugene: Ms. Kendall, I hardly think that's...

Connie: This is the...

Eugene: Key.

Connie: And we put it in the...

Eugene: Ignition.

Connie: And when we put the key in the ignition to start the car, we always turn it...

Eugene: Awaaay from us.

Connie: Very good Eugene! Now, I think it's time to move on to something more difficult.

And so on. :D I think I may be off on some minor words, though. I would go listen, but I need to practice guitar. Maybe afterwords.

^^ Eugene: "Oh, can we? I'm simply dying to learn about windshield wipers!"

;)) (Just a little grammar nit-pick: it would be "Miss Kendell" not "Ms. Kendell.")

I know what you meant, sweeet. I always felt like it was real. I wanted to go to Whit's End and dreamed of going into the Imagination Station. I want one of those so badly! Especially the upgraded one where you can scan any book or painting and go into the story. I would have so scanned Narnia!

Eugene: Oh can we??? I'm just dying to learn about WINDSHIELD WIPERS.

Edit: Great minds think alike.

Anyway, yea it was fun reciting this episode. I remember loving the fact that Eugene learned to drive on a stick shift. I did too so that was always cool.

And later on,

Connie: Okay, step down on the gas and at the same time ease up on the clutch.

Eugene: Step down on the gas, ease up on the clutch.

Connie: BUT SLOWLY OTHERWISE THE CAR WILL....

Eugene and Connie: Ooooh, ow

Connie: ....Lurch forward and die again.

Eugene: I'm truly sorry, Miss Kendall.

Connie: Eugene why don't you practice that for awhile.

*gets out*

Eugene: Wha, Where are you going?

Connie: To get a neck brace, this is going to be a long afternoon.

Oh. I put Ms. Kendell because when Eugene emphasizes and draws out her name, it sounds like he's saying Ms. Kendell. I thought I heard the 'zz' sound.

I always wanted to move to Odyssey, or even just stop by Whit's End for a sundae. I can hardly ever think of it as not real, even though I know it's just a radio show.

We have two of them. We're sort of in the process of buying all the seasons.

When my family visited Colorado Springs several years ago, we went to 'Whit's End'. I can't remember if we had a sundae or not... I do remember getting in the Imagination Station and pushing the red button.

Unfortunately, my imagination must not have been working that day, because I didn't get to meet Paul Revere or Queen Jezebel or even a cow. :p

Not even a cow? tsk, tsk, tsk ;)
I thought up another question: if you could go on only one adventure in the Imagination Station, which one would you choose?

I heard some very sad news this morning. On February 2nd, a week ago, Paul Herlinger passed away. I'm sure I'll pop in here and post my thoughts about this... but right now I just can't even come up with anything to say...

Here are some links I thought you guys might appreciate:

Blog post where I found out the news:
http://aiofanpodcast.blogspot.com/2010/ ... r-may.html

Podcast talking with Paul:
http://whitsendblog.org/2009/10/actor-p ... n-odyssey/

Podcast talking about the three Whit's:
http://whitsendblog.org/2009/08/whit-podcast/

The Herlinger family and friends are definitely in my prayers!

"Oh telescope, keep an eye on my only hope,
Lest I blink and be swept off the narrow road.
Hercules, you've got nothing to say to me,
'Cause you're not the blinding light that I need.
For He is the saving grace of the Galaxies."

I don't know what to say either. He simply was Whit in my mind. It truly is the end of an era in Odyssey......My thoughts and prayers go out to the Herlingers as well. Why isn't there anything about it on the official site?

Just what I was wondering. :- Perhaps they are waiting to announce it on the upcoming podcast? I don't know...

My family visited Whit's End in Colorado Springs. It was really fun. I had a wodfamchocsod at the shop and I remember thinking, "I really shouldn't be getting this, I really shouldn't be getting this." because it had soda in it and at the time I was wearing a retainer and wasn't allowed to drink pop. But my parents forgot and I drank it anyway.

We also got to go down the three story sled which totally rocked!

I grew up listening to the original voice of Whit, so when they switched actors it was a bit of a shock. I did grow to like the new guy. I haven't listened to Odyssey except for the newer Passages stories much in the last few years.

It'll probably always be Lucy, Connie, Eugene, Whit, Kirt, the Barkleys, and Lawrence and that era that I'll remember no matter how the show grows or the actors change. Last Great Adventure of the Summer and Someone's watching over me are two of my favorite episodes. The history episodes are also among my favorites.
