Anne of Green Gables is a bestselling novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery published in 1908. It was written as fiction for readers of all ages, but in recent decades has been considered a children's book. Montgomery found her inspiration for the book on an old piece of paper that she had written at a young age, describing a couple that were mistakenly sent an orphan girl instead of a boy, yet decided to keep her. Montgomery also drew upon her own childhood experiences in rural Prince Edward Island.
Here is a list of the books

1. Have you read all 9 books? Uh... I've read the first eight on the list. I believe the Blythes make a cameo appearance in at least one of the collections of short stories, though, but since my memory is playing tricks on me today I'm not sure. ;))

5. Who is your favorite male character in the books? Oh, I don't know. Gilbert I guess.
6. Who is you favorite female character in the books? I don't remember her name. She's the maid/housekeeper/nanny in the books where Anne is on her own. She is SO funny especially when she chases "Whiskers on the Moon" out of her kitchen with a frying pan! Oh and Ms. Cornelia with all her "Isn't that just like a man?" comments.

I like the 1985 CBC version the best. I also used to watch the animated series when I was younger. I haven't read the books however.

If you go to PEI, you'll see that hey have plenty of Anne of Green Gables stuff. :)

Phillipa! Yes. Thank you, De_De! :)

*looks up The Blythes Are Quoted* According to this review the collection of short stories I couldn't think of is The Road to Yesterday which I most certainly have read. :)

1. Have you read all 9 books? I have read the first 8. I wasn't even aware of the last one.
2. Which book is you favorite? Rilla of Ingleside, and Anne's House of Dreams.
3. Have you seen any movie/cartoon adaptions? I have seen the 1975 Anne of Avonlea. I remember liking it despite the fact that it was obviously filmed on a soundstage. I have also seen the 1985 and 1987 miniseries. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a third Anne series with Megan Follows? I remember seeing the trailer for it and Gilbert went to war while Anne was pregnant and then he was missing in action or something. It was quite apparent that it was only loosely based on the books.
4. Which one is your favorite? Definitely the '85.
5. Who is your favorite male character in the books? Captain Jim.
6. Who is you favorite female character in the books? Rilla. I really like Miss Oliver and little Elizabeth too.
7. Who is your favorite male character in the movies? Matthew Cuthbert.
8. Who is you favorite female character in the movies? Anne (with an e).

She is SO funny especially when she chases "Whiskers on the Moon" out of her kitchen with a frying pan!

Oh yes! Susan is amazing. I love the way she holds everyone together.

1. Have you read all 9 books? All except for "The Blythes Are Quoted".

2. Which book is you favorite? Tough question. Right now, I'd have to say it's between House of Dreams and Rainbow Valley.

3. Have you seen any movie/cartoon adaptions? I've seen the TV movie with Megan Follows, and I've seen all of one episode of Akage no Anne (I happen to have more episodes, but I sadly haven't gotten around to much of it. Maybe I should watch more of it.)

4. Which one is your favorite? While the TV miniseries was good, I rather liked the one episode of the Akage no Anne anime I saw. It was faithful to the books, and the voice actor for Anne captured her perfectly (her speaking Japanese instead of English notwithstanding). I really should watch more of it; I shall report more on it later.

5. Who is your favorite male character in the books? I'd probably have to go with Walter; there's just something about him that's awfully likeable.

Spoiler
So sad he got killed in battle...

6. Who is you favorite female character in the books? Ack, tough question is tough. In the end, though, Anne is probably still the best of 'em.

Yes you are right. Only Anne isn't pregnant. It is a bit similar to Rilla of Ingliside.

Oh, Anne! How I adore that literary character and her witty surroundings. These books are (forgive the cheesy phrase) timeless classics, indeed. I think the thing I like best about them is that they don't go exactly anywhere (I mean, yes, there's one or two main purposes achieved in the books but you know what I mean...) and Anne's description and point of view of the people around her. And Montgomery's writing style just takes my breath away! So real, so vivid, and so relatable.
1. Have you read all 9 books? No-- just the eight of them. I could never find "The Blythes are Quoted." Is it further into the story or not really?
2. Which book is you favorite? Ooh! This is a hard, hard question. I'm going to have to say (for right now) apart from the first, Rainbow Valley was so. cute. I loved all of the Blythe and Meredith children! <3 (And, of course... Mary Vance....) After that, Anne of Avonlea or Anne of Windy Poplars.
3. Have you seen any movie/cartoon adaptions? Yep, the old cartoon ones on PBS.
4. Which one is your favorite? uh. I haven't seen enough to determine which I like better. :P
5. Who is your favorite male character in the books? From the elders, Matthew. From Anne's generation, Gilbert. And from the Blythe kids, Walter!!! :D Then there's Davy... ;)) (Ditto, stardf-- 1. Something about Walter just makes him so likable--whether his poetic nature or willingness to fight with the kid that teased Faith. and 2. yeah,

Spoiler
It's so heart-rending that Walter dies in battle.

6. Who is you favorite female character in the books? SO hard to choose! From the elderly, Marilla and Susan are paralell favourites. From Anne's, I just have to say Anne. Maybe then the hysteric Ruby Gillis. Yeah, I liked her. :P
Spoiler
and when she dies, it's so sad! Nearly all my favourites die in these series. :(

And from the kids, Faith Meredith. ^.^

Yay Anne! :D

1. Have you read all 9 books?
All but The Blythes Are Quoted. Still trying to get my hands on that one.
2. Which book is your favorite? Rilla of Ingleside, followed closely by Anne of Green Gables. They are such opposites, but Montgomery does both so well.
3. Have you seen any movie/cartoon adaptions? I've seen the 1985 miniseries starring Megan Follows countless times. Well, the first two anyways. The third appears to have been made in a temporary fit of insanity; I couldn't believe what they did to the characters! X(
I have also seen all seven seasons of Road to Avonlea, which were (mostly) quite good. There are a few lame episodes and after awhile you could tell the writers were running out of things to write, but on the whole we really loved the series.
4. Which one is your favorite? The first installment of the Megan Follows miniseries is definitely the strongest. I really like the second one as well, but there are a few awkward/overly sentimental moments.
5. Who is your favorite male character in the books? Good question! I can't pick. Matthew is wonderful. And I've always liked Norman Douglas quite a bit too, though I'm sure I'd find him insufferable in real life ;))
6. Who is your favorite female character in the books? This is an absolutely impossible question to answer! :P
7. Who is your favorite male character in the movies? Matthew.
8. Who is your favorite female character in the movies? Marilla is so well played by Colleen Dewhurst... she and Anne tie. And the actress who plays Mrs. Lynde is great too!

Out of curiosity, has anyone listened to the series on audiobook? I've heard that Barbara Caruso's readings are excellent and I have the first one at home.

I didn't like the third one either. It was an interesting story, but not for Anne. I would rather they make Rilla of Ingliside :(.

3. Have you seen any movie/cartoon adaptions? 985: Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel, and Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story, with Megan Follows
4. Which one is your favorite? Believe it or not, it was the third one! I know it has almost nothing to do with the real story...but I just like movies where there is some action :) :) I liked the first one too, but the third one is definately my favorite.
5. Who is your favorite male character in the books? I don't know.... :D :D
6. Who is you favorite female character in the books? Marilla Cuthbert.
