What country is it that refers to them as 'fizzy-drink'? The United Kingdom perhaps?

In Australia, they're known as 'soft-drinks'.
That's the more sophisticated term for them here too (on restaurant menus, for example).
Regarding local terms for soft drinks, I submit this map which lists names by county. It's only for the US, sorry.
My friends in eastern Wisconsin do indeed call it 'soda' but in western Wisconsin (perhaps due to the proximity of the Twin Cities metro area) it's called 'pop.' Sometimes it's even called 'soda pop.'
Favorite flavor? Mountain Dew!
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I call it pop too.

It's soda, guys. Seriously. Pop is not a drink; it's a sound.
As a West Coaster now living in Illinois, I realize that I am the minority when it comes to the correct use of words. But I'm still stickin' with it!
Sorry, it's POP. Soda is some other stuff I've never heard of...
Lol anyway I voted PEPSI because they have Mountain Dew. I really enjoy pop but I don't drink as much as I used to.
That's a very interesting map, stargazer! I actually had no idea that what you call "soda" depends mostly on where you live! It's funny, most people where I live call it "soda pop" or "pop", but on the chart it shows as "pop" being most popular (no pun intended), rather than "other" (for "soda pop").
EDIT: But to some people, Gymfan, "soda" is what you use in baking! Maybe we call it "pop" because of the sound it makes when you open it, or because of the bubbles.

Thanks for the map stargazer! It loooks like most of the people who call it soda live by major water sorces. I wonder why?
But back on topic, have any of you even have the Barq's cream root beer? Its is so good.
By the why good job Gymfan!

I call it coke, regardless of the brand. Sometimes I say soda to avoid confusion, but I never say pop.
Anyways, I voted for 'Coke'. Coca Cola is my favorite soda. I like pretty much all soda, except for the fruit ones (like grape, orange, etc.). Those are too sweet. I'm really not that much of a coke drinker, but a ice cold glass of it can be delicious!
Here in North Carolina (where we call it "soda" ) we have this delicious soft drink called Cheerwine, which is a cherry flavored soda that's very popular in the US Southeastern states (and a little slice of Norway, I'm told). It is my favorite soda by far.
If there's no Cheerwine available in the soda machine I'll usually buy some Coke or Mountain Dew. If I'm at the store I'll almost always go for Cheerwine or some of the super blue Mountain Dew Voltage, which is cool looking and has ginseng in it for a little added "kick".

lol this actually surprises me, if my friends and family were to take the same poll, the results would be reversed.
^^ lol that's funny!
if my youth group took this poll, then most would like Pepsi.....

I love that word 'pop'. My cousin used to say it constantly when we were little and my whole family began to say it.
Yay! Coke is in the lead!

A lot of people who I have meet think that more people like Pepsi than Coke because more restaurants use Pepsi. So I went around town and asked restaurant owners you used Pepsi why they did that. Most said "Because it's cheaper."
Yay! Coke is in the lead!
I couldn't argee more.

I don't really care for sodas (I'd choose an orange juice over a soda any day! ), I don't like coke or pepsi...tasted them both once a couple years ago, and didn't think much of them, so I voted for none.
Although it can be nice to have a cold sprite on a hot day, so I won't say I'm totaly against them!
