I'm just hoping they have a non-3D showing of it in the evening.
Narnian_at_heart, I would suggest trying to see it in 3D if you can...the 3D is really stunning! It wasn't distracting or too show off-y, just realistic. Like in a dusty room, you can see the dust floating around the room, and it really looks like it's in the air. It's well worth the 3D, in my opinion.
I wouldn't mind seeing it in 3D but the reason I'm not is because I'm going with my boyfriend and he's blind in one eye. So seeing it with 3D glasses gives everything a red tint and if he doesn't wear the glasses, the picture looks weird. So it just makes it kind of annoying for him and I don't really mind not seeing it in 3D. I've never been to a 3D movie so I don't know what I'm missing anyway.
Anyway, we were going to see Tintin this evening but ended up missing it. We're going to go see Red Tails (which opened yesterday) instead in about an hour. We watched the trailer and it looks really good! Very interesting and based on a true story. It's about an all-black group (squadron??? unit???) of pilots during the war (WWII I think) and what they did. My cousin watched it yesterday and said it was really great.
@aragorn2 Saw Game of Shadows a few weeks ago, it was amazing. I was a huge fan of the first, but this one was even better. I'd definitely encourage you to see it.
Has anyone here seen Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows? I loved the first one but haven't had a chance to see this one yet. How does it compare to the first one?
I've seen both, and I have to say the first one was awesome, the second was better.
It has a little more humor (it's well-placed though, so no worries there. ) I would definitely suggest seeing it. It happens to be my favorite movie of all time; currently at least.

I just saw it today. I thought it was great. some parts were quite funny but it wasn't as good as the first one. It was a lot more predictable. Anyway if you enjoyed the first one, you should enjoy this one.
I watched two movies over the weekend: Red Tails and Tintin. Now, I've filled my quota for the next six months.
Anyway, both movies were really good. I love Tintin. It was hilarious and I was laughing through most of it. Captain Haddock's character was great. I can't wait to see what they come up with for a sequel.
Red Tails was great. My boyfriend is an airplane mechanic so he was watching closely to see if all the plane stuff was accurate. He said most of it was with the exception of one plane (I don't remember which) which was actually not made until the 1950s: the movie took place in 1944. Anyway, it was really good with the exception of some cliche stuff such as one of the pilots repeating the quote that everyone and their brother has had sent to them as a chain e-mail or posted on their facebook page: "When you're angry, you turn red; when you're sick, you turn green; when you're cowardly, you turn yellow and you call us colored."
My sister and I went to see Haywire the other day.
I liked it. She did not. It's not your standard action film. There are no lightning-fast chases, no loud, exhilirating music, and no cool stunts. It's very straightforward in that department, and that makes the fight scenes fresh and new. And they are kind of funny at times, too, if you like that sort of thing.
As far as story, it's a bit of a mess. It's hard to follow what's going on. Really hard.
Most of the cast is great, though the leading lady isn't exactly the best actress; I don't think they hired her to be expressive.
Overall, I'd say a 7 out of 10.
In other news, I heard that Sherlock Holmes was great. All my friends are quoting it now.
Has anyone seen the new Tom Hanks movie? The title is a bit confusing. Something about a loud noise. Anyway, the Miss's, and I are thinking of seeing it, and I was wondering what to expect. I have read it has one of my favorit european actores. Max von Sydow, who plays a mute. rather challenging role I would think.
Puddleglum, we saw Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close this past weekend. I haven't read the book, so I'm not sure how close it is to the original story, but I found the film quite moving, overall. Von Sydow does a solid job as a mute, and the boy actor, Thomas Horn, is very believable as young autistic Oskar. And having never been fond of Sandra Bullock, I will admit she was passable in this film. Tom Hanks I usually enjoy, and he didn't let me down this time either. Just a note: even though his situation is the foundation of the movie, he doesn't pull it along: Horn does, and a very admirable job too.
There were a few things that puzzled me about the film—one of them being (this is not a spoiler, as it's in every synopsis I've read) how a mother could let her son wander around the streets of NYC so freely (for the first part of the film, anyway), even though a bit is explained at the end, but it didn't suffice for me. And for some reason, a good part of the final half hour didn't strike me in the way the movie makers probably intended. I suspect this is because it wasn't what I had been anticipating ... but now that I've had a few days to think about it, I'm appreciating the conclusion more. However, some bits still felt left undone as the credits rolled.
Having said all that, this movie is certainly worth seeing once, at least.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,
First, I know it's marketed as such, but it's not really a Tom Hanks movie. Nor is it Sandra Bullock's. The movie is all about Thomas Horn, who plays the lead- (though the movie gives some hints that he's autistic, in the book he isn't). Max von Sydow does a terrific job, and he just got nominated for an Oscar for this role. The movie also got nominated for Best Picture.
The movie does a great job in adapting the book, although it cuts half of the book. Rightfully so, as much as it pains me to say. In the book, there are two stories going on- both equally powerful. Present, with the boy. Past with the grandmother. But the movie would need to be 4+ hrs long to do it all justice.
My brother and I saw it over the weekend, both having read and loved the book. We were both very happy with the movie. As for the movie leaving him do what he did, well.... It's like that in the book too,
Anyway, I think it's an amazing movie. Hard to watch for some since it does revolve around 9/11. But one worth seeing.
Ah, okay, narnian1. See, for me it was the grandmother's past that was the part that was so lacking. There obviously was another story around her tale, and it didn't feel complete to me. One is left wanting to know more! Guess I'm just going to have to read the book. Thanks for your insight.
Regarding 9/11, I will add that, even though there certainly are a few disturbing images from (or representing) that horrific day, there is nothing graphic.

johobbit,
If you read the book, a note: Every other chapter switches between "stories". It's good to know, I was slightly confused at first.
As far as the movie goes, I agree, there were disturbing images but nothing at graphic.
I just saw "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" at the theater today and wow!! it was amazing!! it exceeded my highest of expectations and I didn't want it to end! it was full of humor and action and drama and the visuals were amazing! and to quote Tumnus: "And the music. Oh, such music!" the score was amazing and really beautiful Dwayne Johnson was really great in this movie. he was full of really awesome sarcasm that had me laughing. the whole movie was that way Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role as Sean Anderson from the first film, "Journey To The Center of the Earth" was awesome, as always (I have yet to see any bad acting come from that kid. he's totally talented) Vanessa Hudgens was a very pleasant surprise - she played her role very nicely and didn't overdo in any way - I was actually excited about her acting she's really good. I hope she does more good things like this in the future the whole movie was amazing and I want to see it over and over again

Journey 2,
I saw it yesterday afternoon. I still enjoy the 2008 original more, and the first 15min or so of this new one could have been better... As a whole, I found it to be very entertaining. Sure it's a dumb fun movie, but there is nothing wrong with that. I liked it a lot as well.
Just saw The Phantom Menace 3D, and though I still like the movie the quality of the 3D effects was a huge disappointment For just about every scene I had to to be constantly straining to even see anything in 3D. A lot of the time you could just take off the glasses without seeing any real difference.
And I was really annoyed by how little work they put into the space scenes, they could have been incredible but most of them I couldn't see any 3D whatsoever.
I hope the quality will get better when they do the rest of the series.
I saw Chronicle and Safe House last week.
Chronicle: An interesting idea for a movie.
I thought it was sad, mostly because of the realism of the main characters lifes.
Great film though, one that has a good lesson
Safe House: Denzel Washington as always is great! And so was Ryan Reynolds! Really enjoyed it, great flow of action and story.
