I wish I could see Courageous. I just don't have access to the theaters where it is playing. When I have the time, the buses don't go where I am to make it practical. One thing I didn't know about the Sherwood Production movies that makes a lot of sense when talking about the acting, is that the cast are often volunteers. That's one of the big reasons they can pull off a $1M budget. They don't have the pay the actors mega bucks. Considering the actors as far as I know are not professional actors, I'd say they do a good job.

I did however see The Three Musketeers today and I was impressed. This is the 3rd live-action rendition of the story written by Alexander Dumas I've seen, including Disney's version (with Chris ODonnel, Kiefer Sutherland, and Charlie Sheen), The Musketeer (with Justin Chambers and Tim Roth) and the new one with Logan Leerman as DArtagnan and Orlando Bloom as Buckingham. I have not seen the 70's version which I keep hearing is the best. I have read the book and overall, this version is the closest I can think of to the book (a fair amount of liberties due to the length of the novel and such) and based on first impression is the best of the three.

As a fencer, I naturally look at the sword play. It has some of the best sword play I have seen in cinema to date and that says a lot. The actions are very well done with a excellent blend of the big moves necessary for typical movie audiences to see with what is much more like a real sword fight with very tight and subtle actions. This movie is on my to-get list on DVD. If you like a good action flick, this is one to see. It has an excellent plot, cinematography is quite spectacular, and the action is stuff I've not seen in a while. Will be seeing this one again. I just don't know when right now.

Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

With the incredible success of Sherwood Pictures, I'm surprised they haven't pumped money into getting quality actors and professional scriptwriters.

If they did that, I might have actually gone to see Courageous! ;))

I'm surprised they haven't as well. They did have Kirk Cameron for Fireproof but, I think that was only because he volunteered. I must say, having him definetly made Fireproof a much better movie than if they'd had Alex Kendrick play the lead as he has in all the other Sherwood Pictures movies. (Not to say that Alex didn't do a good job)

Ah, not to be a downer, but I don't think Kirk Cameron's a very good actor. He seems to be a great guy though, with a lot of integrity.

Did anyone see Puss in Boots? I watched it yesterday...and well I can't say it's the greatest. There was one nice dancing scene that was well animated, but overall it was really junkie, in my opinion.

All this talk of Courages makes me want to see it :((. I guess I'll have to wait till I can get it online :(

Well, I definetly thought that he was better than most of the actors that are in Sherwood Pictures movies. I don't know if he was good or bad because I'm not good at critiquing that kind of thing.

There have been a lot of movies I've been wanting to see; mostly The Three Musketeers. I enjoyed your review, Fencer; did anyone else go to see it? I'd like to hear as many reviews as possible! :D

Has anyone seen the film 50/50? I saw that film recently and thought it was amazingly done! I highly recommend it. If I see interest here I'll expand on my opinion. :)

I'm not sure if I'm alone in this, but I prefer them to stay as they are. I don't always need quality actors or quality scriptwriters. For movies like these, I often prefer to have people who firmly believe in what they are portraying.

It's not to say I shy away from other christian movies. I like those with professional actors too, like Seven Days in Utopia. (Robert Duvall, Melissa Leo). But it's refreshing to have at least a few with christians starring in the movies.

But I think quality actors/actresses and scriptwriters help draw the viewer into the world to experience it more truthfully. That can't be done with mediocre actors and poorly-written scripts. And who's to say you can't find Christians who are good actors/actresses and quality scriptwriters. There are some Christians amongst the writing groups of such shows and movies as Lost, Charmed (okay, this one surprised me), the X-Men movies, Mission Impossible, Bruce Almighty, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. There are a whole host of others but I can't list them all.

I definetly agree. Also, quality acting and scriptwriting will draw more people to the movie. I know lots of people who don't go to the Sherwood movies because of the poor acting. If they're going to pay $10 or more for a fun evening, they're going to go to a quality movie - not one that's sub-standard.

We saw The Thing last week, and while it wasn't as good as the original, it was still a good movie!
Someone on the internet said it the best: It was more of a monster movie, then a horror, thriller.
It lacked what made the original so memorable, trying to guess who was who that kept you on the edge of your seat.
The ending was great, loved how they tied it into the original. :)
If you are a fan of the original, I think you would enjoy the film, just don't expect it to be as memorable as the original.

@De_De: Out of curiosity what do you mean by Junkie? I'm curious because we are planning on seeing Puss in Boots tomorrow.

I saw Footloose this last weekend and I loved it!! As soon as I got home I had to watch to original (of course) so I could compare the two. I'm not sure maybe because the new one is set to my age really, but I must say I think I like the new one better than the old one! There were some scenes definitally better in the old one (dancing in the warehouse as one) but the movie was spectacular!

I saw Hugo in theaters today.

It started off very slow, but once it picked up, it was very enjoyable. The cinematography was gorgeous, as were the sets and costumes. It had a nice plot. Good acting, though I suppose there were a few moments one could take issue with.

I didn't think all the ends were completely tied up. Especially since

As for the humor in it, I have mixed opinions. At times it worked very well. Other times, it seemed a bit cheesy and tried too hard to be funny.

Overall, though, a great family film that will be enjoyed. I recommend it. ;)

By the way, this movie, of course, was an adaptation of a book. But since I haven't read the book, I'm judging this as a standalone movie.
