I didn't know there was nudity. The natives wear loin-cloths etc. Don't they?

yeah well, covering just illegal parts of the body isn't enough to satisfy me. Sorry, but I'm not even allowed to wear a bikini (not that I want to). The only movie I've ever watched with any "nudity" is "End of the Spear" which also had natives.
Yes, it could be argued that the natives' clothing is, at least at times, a little too revealing. That could be another parallel to Dances With Wolves, if I recall correctly.
A few more detailed comments:
The Na'vi were neat aliens but much about them, to me, served
The spiritual concerns likely center around the aliens' deity, a Gaia-type entity reminiscent of - but handled much better than - the Avatar: The Last Airbender episode "The Swamp," which had a giant tree that was somehow plugged into the world's cosmic consciousness, or something like that. This movie does, at least, attempt to offer a scientific sort of explanation for it, comparing it to a giant computer network that each Na'vi could plug into, in the same way they communicate with their selected animal mounts.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Glenstorym. Stand by your convictions, iit's very wise of you. But it's not called 'nudity' when there are clothes involved, no matter how little they cover. Personally, if it's not sexualised than I'd treat it just like watching a National Geographic documentary. But that's just me.
Gandalf's Beard, I'm not getting the Smurfs references. The only similarity between smurfs and the Na'vi is that they're both have blue skin. That's a thin association (at best).

I agree, Glenstorm, it's a good thing to stand by your convictions.

Warrior, apparently there was a recent South Park episode by that name which connected this movie to Dances and the Smurfs to the Na'vi.

That's what I'm saying W4J .
By the way, I have to agree with you about the so-called nudity. One has to take into consideration that indigenous "primitive" clothing in tropical settings has nothing to do with sexuality and everything to do with efficiency.

I...JUST...SAW...AVATAR...WOW!!!!!!!!! I was completly blown away....I can't say much right now because I am in a speechless aftershock of seeing the movie. Will talk about it tommorrow. Wow.
Winter Is Coming
I see your points about the clothing, but I still probably won't watch it. Especially b/c it's PG 13 and my parents usually like me to watch movies with that rating with our Clearplay, which would ruin most of the experience and cut out alot of the story most likely. I don't think I'm missing out on too much though, b/c to tell you the truth, I usually can't stand Science Fiction. Or anything in outer space. I don't know why but movies like that just give me the creeps.
Well I can tell you the clearplay wouldnt take out the nudity. I saw X-men 3 clearplayed before and it didnt take out Mystique's nudity (which I'm glad it didnt). And if it didnt take out that, it wouldnt delete the Na'vi.
Anyway, whoever said the film is anit-God is wrong. Its the exact opposite. The film supports the deep spiritual lifestyle of the Na'vi and looks down upon the godless scientific reliant people of the future earth.

I just seen where the wild things are. The movie was really cute. The little kid was crazy.
Glad you enjoyed it mate. Did you recognise some of the Australian landscapes in the movie (or haven't you been outside WA?)

exactly,
sure the rituals are different as are some beliefs, but there is deep spirituality among the Na'vi. One must remember they live in a world 100% separated from Earth, therefore their religion would be different than ours here on Earth.
It doesn't stop them from being spiritual.

I keep seeing that movie advertized over and over. I'm guessing you liked it? lol. I know nothing about it but am curious so let us know.
It looks like I'll be seeing Avatar on Saturday. We haven't decided yet whether to go the full Imax 3D route or Standard 3D. I think prices might be higher for Imax, but haven't been to an Imax theatre in the last decade or more. My friend will be checking prices tomorrow. Any advice from people who have been to Imax 3D screens recently?

That was me, Josh. Nice to meet you.
Mother Nature-isms, can not be reconciled with the Bible. Now, if it was just a matter of they have a different religion, that would be one thing. This movie seems to take the idea that their Mother Nature views are the correct views, that we on earth ought to duplicate.
A key idea of common sense. When I say anti-God, I likely am referring to some sort of established idea of God, not the idea of a Deity in general. In this case, Christianity.
This morally and intellectually bankrupt spiritualism, and the negative views of myself and my brothers and sisters in uniform by Mr. Cameron, are why I do not want to see this movie.
God bless all.
I bid you all adieu.
