I saw the trailer and thought it looked good! I've only seen the others once or twice so I might have to re watch if I see it at the cinema...

I am very impressed with Pixar quality in their work, and although not all their movies are excelent, most movies are good and all are generally decent. Cars was their weakest work. The world in cars was to slow and the setting was rather uninteresting. Yet, it still had a great work on its graphics and had an array of good characters. It was a decent film. Now that Cars 2 has been released it has recieve mixed criticism, mostly negative.
I have to say I was not expecting much from the film, but the setting seemed much more interesting and it seemed to be a more fun and ongoing film. After watching the movie I have to say I am not dissapointed. It is not Pixar's best, not even close, but the film is better than the original, Ithas great character development, excelent special effects, and an interesting and intriguing plot. After watching the film I wonder why has it recieved such backlash. The world of Cars does not seem the most wondrous setting for a film, but the result was a fun movie to watch the keeps the action, comedy and plot well balanced and appealing. So, do you find it to be that bad or not?

Many people have told me it is really good and much much better then the first one and the cinemas have been crowded for days.
Maybe we should discuss this in the present movies thread though.
could a mod possibly move these posts?
I think perhaps that after such critical hits such as Wall-E, Up and TS3, people hold Pixar to a different standard than they do other film companies. They expect and demand that each film that come out appeal to adults maybe even more than the kids, and be worthy of a Best Picture nomination.
I haven't seen Cars 2 yet, but don't think it's unfair to say that this particular movie isn't going to fit in the above criteria. But does it make it a bad movie? NO. Movies can be excellent without fitting in the highbrow, Oscar "specifications". I probably should go see the film first and then come back and comment on it, but since I really loved the first Cars movie, I've no doubt I'll like this one too.
Even Pixar's "worst" is still unbelievably good...of all the current Pixar films I've seen, I like Bugs Life the least, but I'd still rather watch that one ten times in a row than see something like Despicable Me once.
I'm going to see Cars 2 on Tuesday night. My mom's friend has already been and she said it was fantastic! It was funny. It had a plot. The cast was great was her comments on it. I'll report back once I see it.
My Dad has actually stated he's interested in going to go see it. My father usually sleeps through animated movies. He's has only stayed awake twice that I can remember since I was 15 or so. That was for Despicable Me and Cars.
I think that people dislike Cars 2 mostly, because it has little emotional depth, which is something we expect from Pixar. I miss that, but I don't think it makes the movie a failure. I mean, I really like movies that make me cry, but when they make me cry with laughter instead, I'm fine with it.

I think the problem here is that people want each Pixar film to be the best of the best. The truth is cars 2 is not as good as others but it is better than the first one.
Eleanor, although Cars 2 is lacking a lot in emotional deph in comparison to othes, it gave Mater a huge amount of emotional deph. Which I found surprising and well done at the same time. It was unexpected and certainly was one of the most interesting aspect of the film itself.

Hmm... this is a question entirely out of curiousity, what did you all who say the second Cars is better than the first mean? I mean, I did appreciate less crass jokes (as there was a non family friendly word in the first and a joke with an indecent word) But otherwise, I loved the whole feel to the first one--the calm, road-trip, country feel. And I know that change of genre isn't always a bad thing. It just was a little...well unenjoyable for me.
Maybe it's just the humor I enjoy, but I found the humor in Cars 2 to lean toward the Cheesy side or just not quite funny, and the "You need to get away from me!" screams Mater. Lighting pursues in well...toddler-like fashion, "NEVER!" That just seemed way too pulled out and stuff...
And, still, the thing that really ruined this movie for me was definitely Just...ugh. I don't think I want or need to elaborate further.
It's true that the missing emotional depth disappointed me a lot, but additionally, the lack of character development, some odd content, and well... I don't know, it just wasn't so good, but that is just my opinion.

I have the money to see one movie in theaters right now, but only one. So... Out of all the movies showing right now (or movies that will be showing very soon), which one would you say is most worth the ticket price?
I was thinking of Super 8, but I don't know much about it... (That's in theaters already, right?)

I think Cars 1 was boring, had very little emotional depth, and was rather painful to watch. One of Pixars worst. And the second one was totally turned around.
I agree that there was emotional depth in Mater.

Haha, that's funny because I think that it was truly one of Pixar's best--they actually gave emotion to a cars face, which is pretty impressive. The emotional depth of Lightning, and the road-trip feel and music choice made it nice for me.

For me, one of the most surprising things about Cars 2 was the rating. I'm really surprised that the MPAA gave Cars 2 a "G" rating when the movie features
I didn't find the scenes bothersome, but I can imagine a 5 year old would get scared out of their wits. Much less violent movies like "Barnyard" have gotten PG ratings, so why not Cars 2? I went on one family media guide website and looked at the Cars 2 reviews, and it literally consisted of 50 angry reports by parents who took their little kids to see it and had a bad experience. If Cars 2 had been rated PG, that would have given parents a little heads up that the movie might be a bit more mature than the G-rated original. As a result, Cars 2 is probably getting some undeserved bad word of mouth just because the wrong audience went to go see it.
Cars 2 is rated PG in Australia for 'mild violence and mild coarse language'.

Yes Super 8 is in theaters, I really enjoyed the movie.

Transformers: Dark what of the Moon? These people really need help in coming up with a title that isn't complete rubbish. The movie looks like decent, if stupid fun.
