@coracle: My top five movies so far this year are:

1. Inception:
Awesome movie so far my favorite of the year! :D

2. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time:
I really liked this movie, a fun popcorn flick with just the right amount of action and good story in my opinion. :)

3. How to Train Your Dragon:
I agree with narnian1 that this was my favorite animated film this year (but maybe its because I love Dragons! :p ).

4. Despicable Me:
This was another surprise for me this year, Just good silly fun! :p

5. Toy Story 3:
How can you go wrong with Toy Story! ;)
The first is still my favorite but number 3 is my second favorite! :)

I Hope that helps you out! :D

Something like a Die Hard movie?

It's been a long time since I've seen any of those, but that's probably a fair comparison. Something like a Bourne movie with some humor tossed in.

I'd forgotten about Prince of Persia - I also enjoyed it as a popcorn action flick and found it better than I expected (especially after the disappointment of The Last Airbender). And that reminds me of another movie that was all right if not spectacular, the remake of Clash of the Titans (Gemma Arterton is in both movies), not to mention the Percy Jackson movie The Lightning Thief - which I guess was an okay movie but not a very good adaptation of the book.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Thank you. I like humour, a bit of romance, not too much violence, historic, some sci fi... - films with good character development rather than major action sequences.

Generally not black humour.

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

On Friday I saw Hereafter, I thought it was a very good movie. I hope to buy it when it comes out on DVD. It can be a rather depressing movie, it deals with the loss of family and a former psychic. The former psychic isn't one of those palm reader seance type, rather he's straight forward- and still it's not something he prefers to work in because he believes it to be a curse rather than a gift. There are some "fakes" in the movie too though.

Last night I saw Paranormal Activity 2, not usually my type of movie but I was asked to go see it and so I did. We rather enjoyed portions of it. I did check out the first on instant netflix, and

Spoiler
they tied the movies together
. I didn't think it would be, but one has to see the first before seeing this one, or at least it would be best. I won't be buying this one for my collection though.

I saw Despicable Me last night. It was so funny! The Minions were hilarious, and I loved the scenes at the theme park.
Yes, I would recommend the following movies:
Toy Story 3.
How To Train Your Dragon
Despicable Me
Secretariat.

The glory of God is man fully alive--St. Iraneus
Salvation is a fire in the midnight of the soul-Switchfoot

How to Train Your Dragon rocks!!!! It's warm, heartfelt, and touching.
Despicable Me is awesome too. I love the story line and character development.
I totally recommend both movies.

I saw the Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole movie today. I'm not familiar with the book series but I really enjoyed the movie. The visuals were amazing and the characters were interesting. There was a good blend of humour and seriousness. The movie is a high-fantasy story, possibly set in Australia (the fauna and flora would indicate as much - awesome!) It felt like a strange combination of The Rats of Nimh and The Lord of the Rings but with an Australian/Norse ambience. Thank goodness Zack Snyder has learnt to tone down his use of slow-mo in this movie. There's a reasonable bit here but it all feels natural and correctly timed. The story was rather basic and generic, and the Owl City song half-way in didn't fit the timelessness of the movie but overall it was very good. PG: Recommended for older children due to 'mild violence and scary scenes'. 7.5/10

My sister (Brisa) went to see that and she really enjoyed it. I want to see it even though I haven't read the books. That is super animation! :)

Finally got a chance to see the film Never Let Me Go last week, and it was so worth it!

It was definetly rated R for a reason, so I wouldn't reccomend it to everyone, but I really enjoyed it.
The only "cons" I had with it was that in the book, Kathy doesn't really like Tommy when they're younger, and the whole point of the book isn't that it's a "romance". I could understand why the moviemakers decided to amp it up, cause it wasn't much of a stretch, but still. The only other thing I wasn't so keen on was Keira's acting as a frail and weak Ruth near the end of the movie. It felt a bit contrived. The rest of her acting was fine, it was just that bit. I was also a bit sad they left out a lot of details about Ruth's character, making her more of a "baddie" and not explaining why she was the way she was.

Andrew Garfield made a brilliant Tommy, I was totally in love with the character :D And Carey Mulligan actually made me love Kathy when I didn't really think I did so much. Keira Knightley was of course awesome, I really couldn't see anyone else for the part of Ruth.

It was really just such a BEAUTIFUL movie. I never wanted it to end, I wanted to jump inside and live there. When you think about it, it's seriously depressing and sad, but somehow the lovelyness takes the sting away somehow.

I haven't seen a movie (or read a book) in a long while with characters who were so well defined and written/acted that you really feel like you know them, that they could be people you might meet in Real Life.

So yea. I loved it :D

I wanna see Megamind! Has anybody seen it?

Actually, I caught Megamind this weekend. Kind of predictable, but still enjoyable. The opening several minutes will be familiar if you've seen the trailers. It's vaguely reminiscent of Despicable Me but that one's not fresh enough in my memory to make a direct comparison about which is better.

There are a couple scenes of 'fantasy violence' that might be a bit much for younger viewers:

Spoiler
the bad guy damages some downtown skyscrapers and uses the tallest as a weapon - but that's the limit of the mayhem as those areas had been evacuated earlier in the movie. edit: And I think this skyscraper destruction was much less potentially-disturbing to the young ones than the incinerator scene in Toy Story 3

There were elements - or nods - to numerous movies like Superman and King Kong. Recommended if you like that genre, or Despicable Me.

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

I also saw Megamind, and I agree with stargazer. :)
I’m not a huge fan of DreamWorks like I am Pixar. But out of all the Dreamworks animated films I’ve seen, this was my third Favorite (How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek are my other favorites). So I felt it was one of the better Dreamworks animated films. :)

(sorry for the double post)
Last Night we saw Unstoppable and I really liked it! :)
I thought both Denzel Washington and Chris Pine were great! :)
It wasn’t action the entire time, but I felt the action was well placed throughout the film and helped keep the story going. :) I’m glad I saw it. :D

I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 last night. I had a really terrible seat, so I'll need to see the film again, but as far as I could tell, this film is excellent. It is, first and foremost, a movie for fans of the books. Nearly every important moment from the first half of the book is here, some of the lines are straight off the page, and the director clearly attempted to make as accurate an adaptation as he could. The pacing of the movie was good, even, perhaps, a bit slow at times, though that slowness was also evident in the eternal camping trip of the book.

The film is very dark. Very, very dark. The beginning scene at the Malfoy's is a very sobering reminder of just how evil Voldemort really is. Parts of the movie are absolutely terrifying. Screams were heard throughout the theatre. I screamed involuntarily, something very uncommon for me.

Spoiler
Bathilda Bagshot is absolutely heart-stoppingly terrifying. The snake fight is another frightening moment.

The movie is primarily a character study, leading up to the next film that will feature more of the actual horcrux finding. The principal 3 actors do a really wonderful job at acting out their characters.

The only thing that I noticed that was really added was

Spoiler
The very awkward tension between Harry and Hermione while Ron is gone. The Dance scene is intended for laughs, but it just feels wrong. Harry and Hermione are not supposed to be together.

If anyone is planning on seeing this film with younger people or people who like to stay away from more graphic material, keep in mind that in addition to the terrifying and disturbing elements, there are a few more graphic moments

Spoiler
including Ron's worst nightmare presented by the horcrux of Harry and Hermione together which is depicted in a visual manner not appropriate for younger viewers

I think that most fans of the Potter series will be absolutely thrilled with this film. This movie is for the fans, so if you haven't read the book, you'll likely get lost, but you really should have read them before seeing the film, so it's your own fault. ;)
