@aragorn2: It really depends on what type of movies you like.
My own feeling about RED is that it was decent, after seeing it I would probably say rent it.
I thought Karl Urban’s acting was great, and of course Bruce Willis is good, but I felt it lacked action, and dragged in places. There was just something missing to tie it all strongly together. Hope that helps.

Hi there! I'm seldom able to get to movies, just because I have a busy life. This year was complicated by a health issue too. (I saw one or two in January, and then one in April, and that's all).
So I have missed almost all the good films of 2010.
And I would like to make a request of you keen moviegoers here:
please will you (each) suggest up to five important movies from this year that I should get out on DVD so as not to miss? This should give me a list of at least ten in total.
I'd be very grateful.
Thanks

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.
"...when a willing victim who had committed no treachery was killed in a traitor's stead, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backwards."
I would love to write a list for you Coracle!
Before I do though, would you mind telling me what types of movie you prefer, like: Action, Romance, Comedy, or do you want a list based on what we personally like?

coracle,
Not sure what type of movies you like, or subject matter. But here are 5 that I personally loved and recommend:
1. The Social Network, (rated PG 13, some "racy" scenes, but a very good movie!)
2. Inception, (Christopher Nolan knocks it out of the park again!)
3. How To Train Your Dragon, (my favorite animated movie of the year)
4. Toy Story 3, (Pixar still on top of its game, and an excellent conclusion to the trilogy)
These four are some of the top rated movies of the year, all have more than 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. All four also appear on IMDb's Top 250:
1. 97% - #124
2. 87% - #4
3. 98% - #181
4. 99% - #18
Those four will definitely show up come Oscar time.
The 5th I want to recommend has gotten mixed reviews, but I think it's a nice little gem that deserves to be seen. A great, yet simple, telling of kids and their first crushes. A story told from two view points- his and hers. Events are shown twice, from their respective point of views, which makes for excellent story telling: Flipped.
I'll echo some of these recommendations...
Inception - fascinating stuff...especially if you like complex, twisting plots. It's something like the Matrix meets Bourne meets LOST
Toy Story 3 - it can stand alone, but it helps if you enjoyed the first 2 installments
Secretariat - especially if you like horses or horse racing. It may bring back a few memories of the 70s as well (music, cars, clothes, etc)
For lighter-hearted, animated fare, you may also try Despicable Me and How to Train Your Dragon.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I haven't seen many this year but these were very good to great.
Inception - great
Toy Story 3 - great
Despicable Me - very good
Currently watching:
Doctor Who - Season 11
Inception and Toy Story 3 are now three for three in recommendations. You've GOTTA see those now
Dragon and Despicable Me twice-(I haven't seen this last myself, which is why I didn't recommend it. I'll be renting it though, just waiting for December when it becomes available)
I'll second what everyone says about Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon, haven't seen Inception yet, I really want to.
I watched Social Network. I have to say that I was initially skeptical about a "facebook movie" but it turned about to be very good. You don't have to have facebook to enjoy it because the main themes are really about friendship and greed. I think the dialogue was the best part.
Did anyone else watch it?

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I plan on seeing it sometime.

Valiant, yes, I saw The Social Network. And I agree, I keep telling some of my friends that it's more than just a movie about facebook. Friendship and greed is what it's about. And the dialogue, Oh my! Without a doubt one of the best aspects of the movie. It's, in my opinion, the best movie I've seen this year, so far.
narnian1, I wonder if it will win any Oscars. I also think it is one of the best films of the year. I don't know if it will win an Oscar for best picture, but I bet it will be nominated at least. Maybe it will win best screenplay.

It will definitely go in with many nominations, including Picture. It will win a few for sure too. The winner? I won't call it yet, I am waiting for The King's Speech and True Grit which look to be equally amazing, if not more.
Screenplay seems like a terrific place for it to win, (thanks to the fact that The King's Speech won't run against it- one is original and the other adapted).
FYI- Don't get me started on the Oscars, I am obsessed with it. I can 'talk' you to death about it
Does anyone know anything about the new Bruce Willis movie RED?
Just to add a bit to 7chronicles' comments on this movie on the previous page: the cast is full of familiar names (Bruce Willis, Karl Urban, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, and Ernest Borgnine - who is almost 94!). Willis and Urban were good. It's rated PG-13 for intense violence (lots of things blow up or get shot at) and some language.
It's political and spy intrigue, but it reminded me of a Bond film in that it seemed less 'serious' somehow than the usual spy movie. If you like this sort of movie I think you'll enjoy it, especially at a matinee price (as I did) or as a rental (as 7chronicles recommends).

Something like a Die Hard movie?
