I went to see 2012 a couple weeks as well too, stargazer, at the behest of several friends (I wanted to see A Christmas Carol or Where the Wild Things Are )—and came out rather pleasantly surprised. Of course, I was prepared for it to be ridiculously stupid, which was pretty much my opinion of Emmerich's Independence Day, and so all it took to please me was for it to be not quite as ridiculously stupid as I thought. Still, secular disaster movies weird me out in general. I come out wondering how one finds consolation at the end of the crisis.

I thought Men Who Stare at Goats looked kinda, well, stupid, but if ramagut is excited to see it maybe it's not. *goes to check it out*
And yeah, Ryan...you're going to be wincing during New Moon no matter how you see it. There was definetly a few things I was literally cringing at. And I agree that Jasper's wig is SO bad. I wasn't terribly impressed with the Volturi in general, but thought Dakota Fanning was excellent--she lived up to my expectations, so I think you'll like her Edward was, as usual, annoying. Jacob was pretty awesome, I felt so bad for him. Bella was a bit annoying as well, but that's to be expected. I think it was much more interesting then Twilight, and definetly had much fewer cheesy lines.

I watched New Mooon and think that it was better than Twilight. And the ending made me want more.
Also I watched 2012 this Sat and I LOVED it! I love films like that.So glad I got to see those.
Edit: I'm gonna see Paranormal acivities, apparently its really good.

I want to see Ninja Assassin . And I definitely want to see 2012. Martial Arts Action and an Emmerich Epic Extravaganza with little plot to get in the way; who could ask for more ? But I am strapped for cash at the moment .

I loved Alvin and the Chipmunks. I'm curious as to what they are going to do with the "squeakquel" . Should be interesting.
I thought Theodore was very cute but I much preferred the original TV series. But that might be nostalgia talking more than a reflection of its quality.

Last night I saw Where The Wild Things Are with some friends. All but one loved it (he merely thought it was good but that the book was better). First a word of warning: this movie is not for (most) young children. Some would be able to handle it but the majority would be bored, confused or scared. Know your child and their sensitivity and maturity. Be prepared to use your brain.
Let the wild rumpus start!
Where The Wild Things Are really is unlike anything I've ever seen. It's 'dangerous', intense, naturalistic, raw, sombre, saddening, unsettling, playful, nostalgic, and redemptive. It's like a psychotherapy session played out in the imagination. There's a bit of Alice in Wonderland in here, a bit of Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro but it's all from the perspective of an 8 (or 9) year old boy called Max, so it's a whole lot wilder. My one complaint is that they changed the scene where Max is sent to his room and escapes by imagining his room turning into a jungle. Otherwise, it was great and really captured the spirit of the book. This is not a children's movie per se, rather it's a movie that reflects on childhood and beautifully captures the confusion we often felt. There's much to think about. I'm still coming to terms with who each character on the island represents. I enjoyed recognising the familiar landscapes and wildlife sounds (it was filmed in country Victoria, Australia). Finally, the acting, cinematography, sets, art direction, script, costumes and puppetry are all very well done. In short, Where The Wild Things Are was brilliant but not always an easy movie to watch. I highly recommend it. 9/10.

Thanks for the Wonderful Review of Where the Wild Things Are W4J . I haven't had a chance to see it yet due to finances. After all the mixed reviews in the States I was a little worried about it. But as you are as big a fan as I am, I think I can safely see it now. Though I expect I will be disappointed too, about the room not turning into a jungle. That was my favourite scene in the book.

No worries mate. I think you'll enjoy it GB. Just be prepared to bring some tissues. Don't forget to howl when the wild things howl. Hopefully you can see it soon. You're in for a treat.

glad you enjoyed Where the Wild Things Are!!
It's currently my favorite movie of the year, followed closely by Star Trek, then Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
tomorrow I'm gonna see one LONG-awaited movie: Me and Orson Welles,
and another awaited movie: Up in the Air.
Avatar. Amazing.
It's got everything you could want in a movie: action, adventure, romance. A visually breathtaking movie, the hype was right in that it really is unlike anything ever seen before. The visual effects are perfect, the Na'vi really are photorealistic, and the 3D technology is brilliant and really works perfectly in the context of the movie. The plot is fairly simple, but it works. The only qualms I have about it is that some of the secondary characters are basically one-note cookie cutter characters, but in context of the film it really isn't that big of a deal.
I'm looking forward to seeing Avatar. I've heard that the only real complaint is that the plot is super-clichéd and some of the characters (are, like you said) less than two-dimensional.

The local movie reviewer was on the radio and said of Avatar that it was essentially Dances With Wolves with a sci-fi background. Still it does look good...
Kennel Keeper of Fenris Ulf
Yes, I too have heard that description being thrown around. I remember Dances with Wolves. That movie was from 1990. Correct?
