At least not while Lucas is alive. Nobody can breath on the SW franchice without Lucas' input. But I also haven't been too keen on Burton's style either. His movies are very wierd and I really can't tell if I like his movies or not. I've seen the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory several times and while I love Freddie Highmore as Charlie, I still don't know if I like it or not. Alice in Wonderland as that exact same feel to it. I don't know if I will like it or not. But since it is only playing in 3D in El Paso, and I don't want to pay the extra, I'll be waiting for the DVD release.

Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

I wouldn't be adverse to a remake of Wizard of Oz, mostly because I can't stand the musical. It's a dumbed-down cute-ified version of the book, which is much better.

Still haven't gotten to see Alice yet. *sighs*

So I went to see Alice a few nights ago. I went in quite apprehensive, and here's why. First of all, Tim Burton's style is a bit too...weird for my taste, and I don't like creepy or strange movies. I thought Alice might be like that. Also, I am SO not a fan of 3-D, and my parents talked me into seeing Alice in 3-D. ;)) I loath traditional 3-D; it's an invasion of my personal space. So here I am, going to see a ALICE, of all things, made by the King of Weird, in 3-D. Oy. This was not a recipe for success. ;)

I have to say thought, I was actually pleasantly surprised! Maybe I set myself up for the worst, but Alice was not as weird or strange as I thought it might be. I've never really seen any other Tim Burton movies (except for Willy Wonka), but from trailers and clips of other movies I've seen, Alice almost seemed...tame. ;)

The visuals were STUNNING, the story, not as bland as I'd been told, and the 3-D was actually...*gasp*...not bad! The thing I hate most about 3-D is the "in your face" effects, and Alice was nearly completely empty of those. The 3-D was used to enhance the background; to emerse you in the world more fully. It wasn't uncomfortable or personal-space-invading to me at all. When I went to see Journey to the Center of the Earth, I spent half the movie with my glasses off...here, I only took my glasses off once, because I thought that when they would unveil the Jabberwocky, it would jump up and lash out at the screen or something. It didn't, though, and all was well. ;)

So, if you're squeamish about 3-D, I have to highly recommend Alice as being a 3-D movie done right. Maybe since I was not emotionally invested in the making of the film, I can view it more positively than I'm guessing some of you are. But me, I really liked it. The music, visuals, story, etc., was all so gorgeous and pretty. I have the Alice Suite music track (the main theme with vocals; the one they play during the latter half of the credits) and it's so Danny Elfman! Love it. :D

I recently saw Alice in Wonderland as well. For me, when it comes to Tim Burton - it's almost a love/hate sort of thing. Some of his movies I absolutely love; others I find much to macabre. Alice proved to be one that I enjoyed - maybe not my favorite Burton film, but a good one nonetheless. Also, I've never really liked the story of Alice in Wonderland to begin with; the other versions I've seen seemed much too bizarre and pointless. This one, however, had a coherent plot that I was able to follow, albeit populated by several insane characters along the way.
And ditto what you said about the 3D effects, Gymfan. I've seen plenty of 3D movies, because my siblings love them, but I'm not a big fan. I found Alice to be OK in that respect. Rather than a 'pop-out' 3D scheme, it seemed more like an 'in-depth' sort of 3D; much like Avatar was, only more so.

Not sure if it belongs here or past movies,
it's been out on DVD maybe a month only and was Oscar nominated which happened on Sunday so it's present enough I think for here?

Movie Title: Bright Star,
I almost did not see this movie but boy am I glad I did! It was terrific. The music and costumes were great. The story was captivating. And the end just about killed me :-s

I literally just did what I never, or very rarely ever do, I saw it to the final second of the end credits. Really, there is no way anyone could turn it off a second sooner.

Edited to avoid further confusion. Sorry about that.

What on earth are you talking about Narnian1? You haven't even mentioned the movie title you're supposedly talking about.

Bright Star is the title of the film, Warrior 4 Jesus. I have heard of it, but never seen it. Everyone who didn't see it told me it was boring, and everyone who did said it was beautiful. We're going to rent it sometime soon.
Not sure if discussion on it is permissible, though...

Oh, okay. Thanks. I thought Bright Star was a member of NarniaWeb (it was the way the post was written).

I liked Bright Star well enough, but I found Fanny annoying at times and thought the ending was very abrupt. :|

How could people say it's boring if they haven't even seen it? :-??
you should definitely watch it and make your own judgment on it.

Concerning Bright Star: I have it in the family room next to the T.V. for another one of the periodic movie nights my dad and I have. The back of the case has just about the worst description for a movie in the world (lots of phrases like "forbidden passion" and "destiny"), but the critics like it so I may be pleasantly surprised.
After Bright Star comes Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
We're sixth in line for the Hurt Locker.

I just saw the new Alice in Wonderland, I thought it was really good, if not a bit to scary for little kids. What did you all think of it?

Elizabeth, if you read the last page or two, you would find people's thoughts on the new Alice in Wonderland.

Hmmm... I don't think I would watch Bright Star. It looks just like any other period romance/drama. I'm not interested. I'd probably find it boring. :p
