One reason why To Save A Life isn't being advertised more is that it is on a limited release, currently only playing in 440 theaters nationwide (compared to the major releases that are playing in 2,000 & 3,000+ theaters).
I had actually never heard of the film until my little brother went to see it the other weekend. He really enjoyed it. I believe it is considered to be a christian film, with a relatively tiny budget, so the fact that it is opening on so many screens, and is doing somewhat successful financially (once again relatively) is surprising to me. I generally am somewhat turned off by christian films, finding them to be too preachy and "polished" in a way. However, from what I have read, To Save a Life is more "real," which appeals to me.
bkey: You should see it, althought it's a christian film, it doesn't have the preachy feel. In fact I would say the real message is more about accepting others that something christian. The best part is that it's a very accurate depiction of high school life, so it's definitly "real", if that is what some people are worried about. Also, I think this is one of those movies that you don't have to be a christian to enjoy it. It's kind of like Narnia in that there is a christain element, but the story revolves more around solving the other problems, so non-christians can enjoy it too.

Dear John,
As opposed to the other Nicholas Sparks movies I've seen, this is the first time I've read the book before hand. So while I was excited, I was also nervous about the changes it would have. There were plenty of changes, but IMO none crucial except maybe .
However,
I simply loved the movie. It was great!
, while it might bother some who have read the book- it doesn't bother me because they didn't change .
I think both Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum were wonderful!
and Richard Jenkins was brilliant!!
I want to see Dear John and I also want to see The Last Song when it comes out, even though Miley Cyrus is in it
....I also want to see The Last Song when it comes out, even though Miley Cyrus is in it
I also want to see that one because I loved 4/5 of the Nicholas Sparks movies so far, Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, and now Dear John. Only Nights in Rodanthe did I think was average.
The Last Song turns me a bit off because of Miley Cyrus, but I will see it nonetheless. Still debating over theater vs rental on it though.
I also saw in IMDb that he has two others in development:
True Believer for 2011
The Lucky One for 2012
I love Nicholas Sparks,
though I've only read Dear John. I'm reading The Rescue and then The Guardian. But that's for another thread...
I heard that Soul Surfer is filming right now. It's a movie about Bethany Hamilton, a girl who's arm got bitten off while surfing in Hawaii. I've seen a short movie about her that was made of clips of her and interviews and I've read some articles . This movie being filmed now is full length and has an actress playing Bethany. I can't wait to see it.
^^ that sounds like a cool movie, I've heard of her...

Yeah I'll probably go rental, I usually do. Really the only time I make it to the theatre is for Narnia movies and sometimes my birthday
Yeah I think I've seen her before on Animal Planet. That's one I'd definitely would watch.

I viewed Sherlock Holmes this weekend, and once you get used to the idea of Holmes and Watson in an action/adventure film, I found a lot to like.
In fact, there are a number of little side references to the Holmes canon that were fun to notice ("The Seven-Percent Solution" and "His Last Bow," among others), and the detective's legendary deductive abilities are shown to good form. Holmes (Robert Downey Jr) and Watson (Jude Law) had good chemistry and enjoyed making quick witty remarks to each other.
In a manner reminiscent of last year's A Christmas Carol, the sets nicely portray the grittiness of everyday life in 19th Century London.
Rated PG-13 in the US for violent action scenes, and there were a few scenes I think that could have been left out - but otherwise recommended.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I'd really like to see Bright Star. John Keats is one of my favorite poets, and I'd read some really good reviews. I'm probably going to buy it when it comes to DVD.
I saw a clip from Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lighting Thief, and I must say,I'm quite dissapointed. Annabeth's archery wasn't very convincing.(but I'm no archer so maybe it was actually pretty good.) Also they were fighing a Hydra, which,if my memory serves, doesn't show up until The Sea of Monsters. The actor cast as Grover will probably be the best. He seems as if he's really mastered the character.
I want to see Bright Star as well...and The Young Victoria...though I might have mentioned that before...
I am back from seeing Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Theif. This has quickly become my favorite fantasy novel turned movie outside of LOTR and Narnia. Acting was not stand-out good, but I didn't see anything that was particularly cheezy. You would recognize the lead actor, Logan Leerman, from Hoot, which I haven't seen. The plot line was pretty good and the script seemed quite realistic for the characters. There was a fair amount of action, but it was decently paced. Being a stickler for sword play, the sword action was well done, especially for this genre. Musical score was not epic stand-out, but neither was Narnia's. I'd need to pay attention more to the music next time. Overall, this is one that is worth one time in the theater, but I don't need to see it again until DVD. I'm not sure I'd buy it at that time, but I would not mind seeing it again. Definately the best non-LOTR or Narnian fantasy movie adapted from a novel that I have seen in a while. I'll give it a 7.5-8/10.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.
I just finished watching Percy Jackson to. Since I never read the books I didn’t really know what to expect aside from the trailers. I did like it better then I thought I would.
I love Greek Mythology, so I really enjoyed seeing how they incorporated the different Greek myths into the story!
The Value of myth is that it takes all the things you know and restores to them the rich significance which has been hidden by the veil of familiarity. C.S. Lewis
I've been dying to see Percy Jackson for ages but I just read the review on pluggedin.com I don't know if I'm gonna see it in theatres anymore...I think I'll just wait til it's on DVD and watch it with Clearplay...
Yeah, I read the Plugged In review too. Amazing how much hyperbole they can pack into a single movie review. I don't think they've ever managed to say anything good about a movie.
