To all our dear Narniawebbers:
This May the Spare Oom is hosting a Poetry contest, (inspiried by our very own MoonlightDancer)
Everyone is invited to come and try their hand at writing a little poetry, you may find it's a lot simpler than you think.
We are now open to submissions, the contest will run for three weeks, beginning today, May 5th, 2014
Here are the rules of the contest:
--The theme of the contest is Spring, all poems must somehow be connect with it.
--All forms of poetry are allowed, but the poem must be no longer than 20 lines
--We are encouraging creativity, so if you want to combine your artistic talents along with your poetry you are more than welcome too. However, if you want to add an image, it must be no larger than 800x600, if the image is larger, please post a link!
--All poetry will be judged by the following three categories
1. Flow of words (how the poem reads)
2. Mood/Imagery (how it relates to spring)
3. Language (does the choice of language enhance the poem)
--please remember that all comments such as "Nice job", "good poem", "I like that" will be deleted. If you like a poem enough to comment, include your reasons why you appreciate the person's writing.
Our judges for the contest are:

So please, come and post your poetry, show us what spring means to you, share you talents and lets have a lot of fun!
Looking forward to reading what you have to offer

Here is my entry for the contest; it is in the form of a Petrarchan sonnet.
What Could Have Been?
When March’s snow has turned to April’s rain,
And clouds have given way to rays of light
Then greens and golds replace the blinding white
Of ice, and death, and fear, and dark, and pain.
Then farms will once again put out their grain.
The tiny seeds, containing verdant sprites,
Go out into the world and start the fight
For life, for love, and wherewith to sustain
Its own, and others by the pow’r within
This shell. Alone within the fertile clay
A single seed awakes and will begin
Its life. The violent sky above is gray,
And looses forth its deluge to chagrin
The germ, which drowns, and dies, and rots away.

Your Spring Is My Winter
Too soon the sharp and soothing touch
Of wind-swept snow and snowy wind
Desert me and the all too much:
The light and heat and groans begin.
So busy, all the silly birds
So noisy, all their empty words
The blossoms choke; the air grows tight
With flies and bees; with heat and light
She needs the green, the sun's embrace
But still my skin is damp and hot
She needs these things, her Earthly grace
But still I wish that she did not.
Less than a year and I'll be free
The snow will breathe and comfort me
Until then, all the rest will cheer
And I'll be grumbling "Spring is here."
"The Death of the Yellow Jacket"
It is the weather that brings them forth
Darkness and light together
In insect, room, and death
And the yellow jacket drops
With a soft heaviness
Like folded paper falling to the floor
The stinger is gone
For his own buzzing antagonism
He is chased, trapped, crushed
Between window glass, fabric, and the rubber sole of a shoe
A life expired, celebrated
As his cousin's, the honey bee,
Would be mourned
"All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies. And when they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you..."

we have made a slight rule change! We are now allowing up to 20 lines for each poem. If you have already written a poem but now want to add more lines feel free to do so. Only please don't make it longer than 20 lines or the judges will have to ask you to edit the poem and shorten it.

Thank you all! *helps himself to a slice of cake, even if it is before dinner *
This was fun. I haven't tried my hand at poetry in a while, and it was good to jump back into it, however briefly. Let's do it again, sometime.
