My biggest phobia is of wasps/bees or any other similar flying stinging bug. It even causes me to be afraid of flies because I can't tell by the sound it makes whether it's just a fly or if it's a wasp. The weirdest thing is, I've never been stung. I'm just so utterly terrified of it ever happening, that I get nauseous when I hear stories about people being stung, and I must be at least five feet from a wasp or bee, with it in sight so if it starts to get near me, I can get away from it as fast as I can. On a fear scale of 5, this one is a 5.

I'm not afraid of heights, but I am afraid of falling. This is why I love looping roller coasters, but can't stand the drops. This one's a 3-4.

I also tend to be slightly claustrophobic, but mostly only in crowds. I'm fine until the crowd gets so thick that people are constantly brushing up against me, and I can't move even a tiny bit. If it's a walking crowd and I'm walking with them, it's fine, but if it's a standing crowd and I'm standing in it, I start being unable to breathe. This is why I could never do the whole mosh pit thing. This one's a 2-3, because it rarely happens.

Oh, another fear is of breaking bones. Once again, something that's never happened to me, but that I'm afraid of. This one's a 3.

Everything else physical... pretty much I'm not afraid of. I hate cockroaches and spiders, but I'm not scared of them, I just think they're vomitously disgusting. Now, there are other things I am afraid of, like social rejection, but they're much less definable and material.

I don't really have that many fears or phobias...but the ones that I do have are really strong. :P

Spiders. Yeah, that's a big one for me...
Owls. I'm not really sure why they scare me, but they do...
Shattering glass. It sounds silly, but I'm always afraid I'll break glass...
Clowns.
Crowds. Techincally, I'm not "afraid" of them, but I do get uncomfortable in them.

I can't say that I have any known fears.....least nothing out of the ordinary.

Since this is the phobia thread...
In my new Health elective book, I came upon a short list of common and not so ordinary phobias, as follows:

acrophobia- fear of hights
aerophobia- fear of flying
ailurophobia- fear of cats
amaxophobia- fear of riding vehicles
arachibutyrophobia- fear of peanut buter sticking to the roof of one's mouth. :))
blennophobia- fear of slime
catoptrophobia- fear of mirrors
chinophobia- fear of snow ;))
claustrophobia- fear of being in closed places
cynophobia- fear of dogs (I have this phobia on a small level)
didaskaleinophobia- fear of school --Rofl. I can just see a bunch of kids lining up, wilting and declaring they have didaskaleinophobia to get out of school.
dromophobia- fear of crossing the street
glossophobia- fear of speaking in public
homilophobia- fear of sermons :P
nyctophobia- fear of the dark
ophidiophobia- fear of snakes
scopophobia- fear of being looked at
telephonophobia- fear of using the telephone (I think I just might have this. ;)) I hate using the telephone except when calling good friends, but otherwise... I guess that's not a fear though, lol.)
triskaidekaphobia- fear of the number 13

I really want to search up the other 341 phobias out there. ;))

I know what you mean. :) However, I think from the phobia point of view, I guess it means that when a certain individual is given a telephone to use, they will be overcome by feelings of helplessness, fear, tension, distress, etc.
But, yes, using the telephone is something I avoid, too. ;))

1 helplessness-no
2 fear-more of slightly anxious than all out terriffied so-semi
3 tension- probably
4 distress- most definitely

This is mostly when answering the phone, all though when calling friends I'm afraid of not being able to think of things to say and awkward silences, so I don't know is there any such thing as semi-telephonophobic.

@Clo I know the peanut-butter one is funny, all though it kind of makes sense, maybe one might be afraid of choking on it, or they might just not like the feel of it, or think its gross.

Mm-hmm. I'm not afraid of getting it stuck to the roof of my mouth, but I do find it uncomfortable. So, I can totally understand why someone would be afraid of it.

Snakes, tight places, heights, dark... Love them all. :D

Spiders, clowns, afraid of getting mugged in the city even though I don't live in one? Yep, very scary to me... I hate talking to people I don't know yet I can get up in front of three hundred people and preform an hour long play :| weird huh?

You know those turtle sandboxes with lids on them? Well a long time ago I was calmly playing in my sandbox when my sister jumps me, shoves the lid on then sits on top of the lid... I'm in there for like thirty minutes before she asks "Arn't you going to scream?" I respond "Nope" then a spider skitters across the sand and since its pitch black I can't see it but I can hear it... I shattered my sisters ear drums...

If you ain't first, you're last.

:)) That is totally me. I'm not afraid of being locked in places, but if there's a spider in the same room with me, I'll scream like a banshee...

I'm afraid to even go near cages with spiders inside, even though I know that they can't get to me. *shudders* They're so creepy.

I am fine around campfires.....as long as I'm not right in the path of the flying embers that blow out of the fire on a windy night!

Dogs--ever since I was a little girl I have been scared to death of them, an odd fear because dogs are my favorite animals.
Crossing the railroad tracks--I'm afraid that the train will come and I wouldn't be able to get out of the way
Speaking in public--I stutter and stammer and get stricken with stage fright
Grasshoppers and locusts--I don't mind looking at them from behind glass but I'm freaked of them when they are in my bed (that has happened to me a couple of times :-o :-o :-o )

Liberty Hoffman wrote:

my other worst fear is this: I hate candles. the thought of lighting a flame on purpose freaks me out! I hate open flames that could get bumped over and catch things on fire!

I'm not scared of candles but I am a bit wary of them. The flame itself attracts and fascinates me I can watch it for hours, but at the same time I am very cautious, that is because my hair caught on fire once (not a very pleasant experiance)

I used to be afraid of falling down head first, but then I actually fell that way and I realized that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. So now I am cured of that fear :D :D :D

On the fire topic, I'm always worried after I use candles that they haven't been totally put out, and that somehow they're going to set the house on fire. But candles themselves I like.
