I am terrified of:
1. choking: this is probably my biggest fear. Or like my throat swelling up & being unable to breathe.
2. Drowning. I think we're all afraid of that...
3. Heights! I cannot handle heights! I hate looking down over the balcony at my church, even.
4. SPIDERS!!! Basically anything creepy, crawly, slimy, & all around unpleasant.
5. Hair cuts:
Lady: So, what would you like me to do?
Me: Ummmm.... make my hair look...ummm....better? I think maybe layers... NO! Not layers... um a trim? I DON'T KNOW!!! If you were me...what would you do?
no.. it's not THAT bad. I got a hair cut today, & before I left I asked my mom what I should get, & I memorized what she said. Word for word. It works out much better that way. And I actually like my hair cut!
6. Physical pain. From stubbed toes, to dying a slow, painful death, I'm terrified!
7. Small spaces.
8. MATH TESTS!
9. Strangers. Well... suspicious strangers.
10. A bad adaption of VDT. That would be just horrible!

Okay I forgot what # I'm on again so I'll just bullet
-getting rabies/ lyme disease/ rocky mountain spotted fever.
-being kidnapped
-this isn't really a fear, but I'm really squeamish and I almost fainted once when I saw a lot of blood.
- embarrasing myself
-losing contact with friends or family
Some people have mentioned being afraid of rats, snakes, and roaches. I actually love all of these. I used to be terrified of snakes and mice, but I got over it. Actually I've been wanting a rat for a pet... but my parents won't let it happen, and Patchy's just starting to get used to Daisy (My pet rabbit and hamster, respectively) So, alas, won't happen. I'm glad to see noone has mentioned wolves yet Watch three posts later and someone will, thats alright though if you are... I'd just suggest... actually I'd suggest this for everyone including myself... that we all try to learn about the things we're afraid of. Knowledge is power in this regard. And who knows, what we learn may make them seem less scary, it has worked for me thus far.

Genny, I can relate to quite a few of those.
Strangers. Well... suspicious strangers.
Ditto.
Oh, another big one for me is that I'm a huge germaphobe for every disease in general. When I'm sick and if I cough into my hands, a bottle of sanitizer must be by me. And if someone sneezes/coughs without even covering it, I just see the little diamond-headed, spiraly, creepy bacteria crawling all over the place. But still, if people were a little more careful as far as germs go, epidemics would not happen so often, I think. *shudders* "This is your handkercheif, and this is your sleeve [hand]. ^^^Tell me about it. Since the 7th grade it has never failed that I would get hit in the face/ neck at least once a year. This year it has already happened twice.
-A ball/ frisbee hitting me in the head
-Failing school
-something horrible happening to a young child
-war

Death is my greatest fear, everything about it, how will it happen, will it hurt, fast so I barely know it happened or slow and extremely painful???

This is an interesting thread.
My fears are
1. Someone in my family dying. I honestly don't know what I would do without all their support.
2. Getting stuck in an elevator. This one sounds a little silly. I'm afraid of getting stuck in small places in general, but elevators particularly scare me.
3. Spiders. Just the way they move creeps me out. It's the only 'bug' I'm afraid of.
4. Being judged or criticized. I am a little bit self conscious, and it really bothers me if someone has a bad opinion of me, especially if it's someone I really respect and look up to.
I have to say, it's been encouraging looking through this thread. There are kindred spirits out there who feel the same as me!
I rarely ride elevators, and while I don't have a deathly fear of being stuck in one, when I do ride in one I'm always thinking about the possibility of it breaking down. One time my family was visiting my aunt who lives in a apartment building, I had just finished reading a book about several women who get stuck in an elevator during a hurrican (The Elevator, by Angela Hunt) and was kinda nervous. I'm all "ahhhh I'm so nervous!!" halfway down, the elevator stopped. O_o I was like "Ahhh! we're all going to die!!"
My aunt was just "oh, this happens all the time" sure enough a few seconds later it started up again. But I'm still nervous about elevators today

^Every time I get in an elevator I'm afraid of either getting stuck or crashing ti the bottom. But I'd rather take the elevator than the escalator, I fell on one once and hurt my knee pretty badly. Personally however I prefer the stairs.

Me too! Wow, I totally forgot about that fear, which shows how much I actually ride elevators... But I really really don't like them, I guess that's due to being claustrophobic. Of course, it didn't help one time in the Nancy Drew computer game I was playing when the elevator in that game broke down and we got stuck...

Huge ditto! In '08 my family and I were on vacation, and our hotel room was on the third floor (which I liked). Thankfully, I managed to use the elevator only once- when we were taking our luggage up and didn't know the layout of the hotel very well- and after that my sister and I always took the stairs, even though the rest of my family took the elevator. Most times we even proved the stairs were faster, and beat the elevator down. And of course we were not running on the stairs but walking.

lol i got hit by a basketball today i really think this girl is trying to kill me she bang into me in basketball the other week lol and nearly knocked me down some stair. She is a friend and pretty uncordinated.
I know this sounds pretty stupid, but my biggest fear is probably being teased. A couple of my friends mock me for being so...enuthsiastic.
I'm also afraid of taking out the trash at night because I'm afraid of getting kiddnapped and/or killed by a serial killer. The only time I'm not afraid of being outside in the dark is when I have someone my age or older with me.
When I go to bed,my closet door simply must be closed because there's a mirror on the inside. And I always sleep under my blanket.
....that's all I can think of for now,but I'll probably be back later with more fears, fraidy cat that I am.

Same here. I'll ride it if I have to, though I really don't like to. That's a pretty crazy story about visiting your aunt! That might have scared me away from elevators for life.
Every time I get in an elevator I'm afraid of either getting stuck or crashing ti the bottom.
Another kindred spirit. Crashing to the bottom doesn't really bother me, but that does bother my brother.

Yes, I think it all ties in to being claustrophobic. But the elevator in our mall is pretty scary, even if you're not claustrophobic. Everything is painted yellow, the walls are bare, and it looks like the sort of elevator that would break down.
No way, when I was little I had a computer game in which the elevator got stuck, too! A '101 Dalmatians' game I believe. And you're perfectly right, it doesn't help the fear of getting stuck in an elevator one bit.

@georgiefan1: I know exactly how you feel. When my great-grandma died (the first time someone I knew well passed away), that night I had a panic attack. I couldn't help thinking I was going to go to sleep and not wake up. Let me tell you, that was the longest night of my life. Luckily, I got over it. I actually don't fear death anymore, but the reason why is very personal. If you're interested in hearing about the experience, PM me and I'll be happy to share it with you. It's pretty cool.

No kidding!! I've felt the same way. I always thought I was silly for feeling that way, especially since it's not that far to our garbage can, but I still get that way. Funny thing is, if it's in the dark in the city, I freak out, but if it's in the dark in the mountains, I feel right at home and can't get enough of it. Strange, huh? In the city (or suburbs) I have to be with a male I trust (like my brother--even though he's two years younger than me) one of my best friends (they both know self-defense) or someone my age or older than me. I know exactly how you feel!

I'm surprised by how many people have phobias of serial killers...I mean it's just not something one encounters everyday. In fact I think one has a bigger chance of walking near an active volcano than a serial killer. Methinks there's some folks watching waaaay too much Silence of the Lambs here.
