So this might seem like a bit of an odd thread topic, but I think it could be very interesting. What are some things that you all are scared of? Anything at all, however strange. I'll start :P

1. Caterpillers (slugs, grubs, and worms and butterflies also fit into this category)

2. The fear that I'm walking over a bridge, and will suddenly, before I can stop myself, throw all my stuff (and/or myself) into the water. I have this same thought about walking close to a cliff/hole. I often feel like this more when I'm picturing/imaginging the situation then when I'm actually there though.

3. Serial killers

4. The dark

5. dying painfully and slowly

6. Being chased by something that is all-powerful and I know I will never get away (I frequently have nightmares about this XD)

7. Swimming in lakes/oceans. Not a huuuge one, but depending on the situation I can get REALLY freaked out and refuse to go in.

8. I'm a bit claustrophobic.

9. Being boring (I guess this isn't really a "fear" like the others, but I do worry about this quite a lot)

On the flip side, I loove snakes and heights! :P

1. Heights. This one is so bad I can barely handle a jungle gym.
2. Dark spaces.
3. Crowds, especially noisy ones.
4. Spiders.
5. Snakes.
6. Pain. I'm really scared of being in pain, but when I'm actually in pain it's not as bad as when I'm just thinking about it (yea, I'm weird).
7. Public speaking. I'm so glad my speech class is over!
8. Dying slowly. I suppose this one goes along with pain.

Job interviews!

Public speaking/appearances

I imagine some others may come to mind once I think about it more.

One thing I don't think I've ever been afraid of is the dark, which is handy because I've been a stargazer just about my whole life. ;))

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Hmm... well, I don't have many phobias or fears anymore, thankfully God has been showing me that no matter what they are He is always bigger than them, but here are some that I've struggled with in the past:

1. Spiders and other sorts of bugs
2. The fear of conflict. I definitely don't struggle with this one anymore, not that I go seeking conflict, but I'm no longer afraid of not taking the blame or responsibility for something wrong that I did not do just so that there would be no fireworks or people being mad at each other. Granted, I still am a peacemaker sometimes, but I'm not afraid of what will come if I don't accept the blame
3. The fear of criticism. Pretty much the same thing as above.
4. People sleepwalking. We have several sleepwalkers in my family (myself not included), and once in a while one of them will appear at my door late in the evening, generally before I go to bed, and that freaks me out.
5. Heights. Yup, I can't even walk up the stairs to the loft over our garage without thinking that I'm going to trip on the stairs and go tumbling down.
6. I'm also claustrophobic. Believe it or not, I believe it's tied into my personality- my type need to feel safe before they can relax and be okay and enjoy almost anything, and therefore we sometimes tend to avoid places that make us feel trapped and/or unsafe And that goes for tight and small places. Thankfully now I don't need to feel 100% safe anymore before I can live, which is nice. :)

I think that's about it. I actually love crowds when I'm with a parent or sibling, even though I'm an introvert, but I really like the feeling of just being able to get lost in the crowd, blend in with everyone around me and become just one of the nameless people pursuing each our own paths and attaining our own goals, and not have to worry about everyone noticing you and knowing all about you and your past mistakes... it's odd, yes, I know. ;)

Dear days of old, with the faces in the firelight,
Kind folks of old, you come again no more.

1. Heights
2. Large dogs

And that's it. I guess I'm pretty fear-free!
I'm not claustrophobic, in fact small spaces make me feel more secure for some reason. Neither am I an arachnophobe- I think tarantulas are adorable! So fuzzy and furry.
I've never been afraid of thrillers, but I do get nightmares from books sometimes. I think it's because movies present everything for you already and books force you to create more of the experience with your own mind and so you become more involved.
Plus since I joined Narniaweb I've become quite versed in 'movie magic' so if the scene gets really intense I can remove myself and occupy my mind by wondering "Now how would you pull off that scene?"

And I'd like to proudly announce that I've overcome one of my greatest fears: LOUD NOISES!
I still get skittish when I watch fireworks but otherwise I'm perfectly fine. :)

Here it goes:
[list=1]

  • Heights[/*2rusbwwe]
  • Falling over backwards, especially when in rocking chairs. :-s I can handle rocking chairs as long as I don't rock too far backwards (luckily since I occasionally need to rock children when I'm working / babysitting) My sister enjoys coming up behind me and pulling down the back of the rocking chair. :p Now, she sits in the chair more than I do so that has happened lately. My mom says as a baby I didn't like to rock. [/*2rusbwwe]
  • Spiral and / or steep staircases, especially in tight places[/*2rusbwwe]
  • Ending up like the people in Matt. 7:21-13 :-s :-ss [/*2rusbwwe]
  • Never marrying and having children[/*2rusbwwe]
  • Sometimes crowds, especially if people are really packed in somewhere[/*2rusbwwe]
  • Being hurt emotionally by people[/*2rusbwwe]
  • A student pulling out a gun when I'm the teacher.[/*2rusbwwe]
  • Dying a slow, painful death[/*2rusbwwe]
  • Our basement (it looks a lot like a dungeon and often has visitors (mice, bats, squirrels, birds)[/*2rusbwwe]
  • Bats in my house or trying to get in my house (I'm fine with them if they are outside or in caves)[/*2rusbwwe]
  • Having my faith tested and failing. :-ss [/*2rusbwwe]
  • That VDT will not be what I consider a good adaptation (esp. that they will have changed how the Lone Islands are "conquered," that Reep's and Eustace's confrontation won't be like it is in the book, that the scene in the magican's house with Lucy and the book won't be done right, etc.) :-s [/*2rusbwwe]
  • Horror movies / stories, ghost stories[/*2rusbwwe][/list2rusbwwe]

    1. Speaking in public...yup it's true. I stammer a ton whenever I'm talking in front of a crowd.

    2. Serial killers.

    3. A house fire that burned down our entire house and belongings (I've been scared of that happening ever since I was little).

    4. Any kind of bug: Spiders, wasps, gnats ( ), even ladybugs. There was a ladybug flying around the room the other day, and I screamed, dropped the book I was holding, and ran out of the room.

    5. Getting a B in school. I know that sounds pretty silly, but I always get mad at myself if I don't get an A - especially if I studied hard.

Umm...I know there are probably plenty more, but I can't think of any more at the moment. Will post some more later if I think of them. :)

well, I am afraid of the obvious ones like bugs and death, but my biggest fear is this:

I am afriad of drowning. this may sound odd, but I never learned to swim, and I get really nervous around water.....and I hardly ever go in swimming pools because of my fear.

Liberty, I actually understand that. I can swim, but not very well, so I'm always nervous in swimming pools.

Narnia Girl: yeah, I always get really nervous, even in the shallow end of pools.....I actually almost drowned twice: once, when I was 5 years old, I was at a party with my family. the people who's house we were at had an deep, above-ground pool and I was going in it with a floaty ring. but one of the times I went in, I forgot my floaty and I splashed in and went under. I panicked, but (thank God) I somehow managed to grab the edge of the pool. weird thing about it is that nobody saw it happen. the other time was when I was 10 years old and my friend had an a shallow above ground pool and I got pushed under. my feet slipped and I panicked, but I managed to get to the surface. I have been afarid of water (pools especially) since.

Well...a phobia is something that kind of debilitates you if you go through it...I mean if you want to get technical about it. ;))

I have acrophobia something fierce. All I need to do is go 3 steps up on the ladder and it makes me shaky and nervous. You're really only 3 feet up in the air but when you factor in your height (I'm 5'11") it actually seems closer to 10 feet, which I think is what magnifies that. There is no amount of money in the world (I'm serious...no amount) that would convince me to go bungee jumping or skydiving. Those people are insane. :-o

I have a borderline phobia (more like an intense dislike) of clowns. They're....unsettling. Watching Stephen King's "It" did not help this one iota.

I don't have any other real phobias, although I...um... ...don't really like the dark. I'm 37 and need a nightlight. Drives my wife nuts because she needs total blackout conditions to sleep and behaves as though the little nightlight is a stadium sized floodlight shining directly in her face. I suspect she's half Morlock...hmm...an idea for a new screenplay! I Married a Morlock!, a film by Ed Wood. ;))

    I actually almost drowned twice

Thats happened to me a couple times, too. Twice I slipped when walking through the water but, I was able to right myself. The most recent time occurred at the beach I was trying to do an underwater handstand, but I lost my balance. I almost broke my neck, but I managed to curve just enough that I hit the bottom softly with the upper part of my back. I actually love the water although I'm not the best of swimmers, I pretty much just dogpaddle. My dad's afraid of going into deep water, but I think thats cause he's had a few freinds who drowned or got paralyzed. He says he almost drowned too but he really doesn't talk about it much.
Actually there have been quite a few times in my life when I almost got killed, but I made it through, usually unscaved.

11 (I'm on 11 right?) Not being able to breathe
    12 getting paralyzed
13 getting cancer or another terminal disease
    14 burning to death
    15 drowning
16 my rabbit getting mad at me and never forgiving me
    17 not getting into/through college
    18 getting impaled
    19 nerve damage
20 getting killed by an animal (not so much for me as for the animal)
