I don't know if anyone here has seen the movie Secondhand Lions, but I would reccomend it highly.

I think I'm the only person in this world who found this movie painfully boring. :)) Everyone else seems to love it though. And it IS clean, which is nice. :)

You're not alone. I also found it boring. I saw it all, but I haven't since... ;)

I recall that Secondhand Lions had its moments - just not enough of them. ;)) The scenes with them shooting the corncobs launched into the air was amusing (and might have been in the extras as a deleted or extended scene - it's been a long time since I saw this one).

Bruce Willis' disaster flick Armageddon was on TV tonight, and I caught part of it again. This movie has taken some flack for its take on the whole asteroid doomsday scenario, but truth be told, it looked like a documentary compared to some made-for-TV disaster movies SyFy aired in a Saturday-afternoon doomsday marathon a couple weeks ago.

These included one in which an asteroid is deflected at the last minute by nuclear weapons forming a sort of shield in front of it (no impact required), another in which an Icelandic volcanic eruption launches a huge iceberg/glacier across the Atlantic toward the US coast at 200 miles/hour - nuclear weapons don't work on it - not to mention another in which a passing asteroid somehow pushes the earth's orbit toward the sun (to be fair, the emphasis in this one seemed to be on the collapse of social norms rather than on science).

But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

Thanks very much to PrinceCor004 , Valiant_Lucy, & fantasia_kitty for your inputs. Sadly though, I'll be passing on this.

The "bedroom scene" you mentioned above is only on screen for maybe a minute...(pretty much what you see in trailers is what happens in the film).

Uh, well actually, I didn't see the trailer, I only saw the trailer for the 2nd. So, I didn't really know for sure about any content, it was just from someone who thought they slightly remembered something.

If you approach Sherlock Holmes as an adaptation of the classic books, it's rubbish.

LoL, well unfortunately, I'd be one to do that.

...I need to start off by saying that I'm not a Sherlock fan.... at all.

Sorry to hear about that. :) I find him quite entertaining, in most forms I've seen: TV, film, books.

AslansChild, have you watched the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes movies or The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984–1985) starring Jeremy Brett? They are both clean and the TV series with Jeremy Brett is very close to the books.

SnowAngel, I also HIGHLY recommend the Jeremy Brett series. :D That was actually my first introduction to Holmes as a wee lad and they still hold up amazingly well today. :)

SnowAngel & PrinceCor004: I rejoice to say that I have seen Jeremy Brett. I've seen quite a few different episodes/films, and to me, he is the epitome of Holmes. I love all his different facial expressions, he can look so hilarious while remaining so composed. :p Can you buy those on DVD? I've seen some on YouTube, but I'd love to own some more.

SnowAngel, I although I have the films, I haven't gotten around to watching Basil Rathbone as of yet. I will though...

& I didn't know if you knew this or not, but because you mentioned Leslie Howard in The Scarlet Pimpernel, I figured I'd mention it. Were you aware that his son Ronald Howard (not to be confused with Andy Griffiths Opey, Ron Howard.) was also an actor, although not as famous, and he played Sherlock Holmes in a television series? It was very good, very funny, although not as accurate to the book, You can tell they cut and pasted certain parts from certain mysteries to make an episode. But he certainly looks like his father:

You have to watch the Basil Rathbone ones, AslansChild. They are really good. :)

I didn't know that, that's very interesting. I don't believe I have seen anything that he's in.

Ah! Thanks for the links! The Entire Collection set looks really nice, but a little steep for me... :-ss ^#(^ I'll just have to stick to YouTube. ;)

And I will be watching Rathbone soon, right after I start diminishing my pile of To-Watch-Classics. It's growing by the week. :)

And here's the ones I was telling you about:

They're very funny, and certainly clean. LoL That seems to becoming the motto on these threads isn't it? "Is it clean?" :)

So, I finally got around to watching Tangled: Ever After. I know, I know...
I'm the wielder of the frying pan so you'd think I'd be more up to date on things... but no. :p I didn't get to see it in theaters when it was released, and since then I didn't know if it was actually online or where to find it. The other night my brother asked me if they'd made a Tangled sequel, so I told him about the short. He ended up looking it up, watching it, and then sending it to me. :D (I have such a great, caring brother and I love him. ;)) )

Anyway, I watched it, and it was cute. All the little touches were great--like the

Spoiler
lanterns and the frying pans. ;))
And I loved the
Spoiler
giant wall of fire and the flood of grape juice.
So funny. ;))

Some of the things stretched my suspension of belief and induced a minor case of the groans. (This is not to say I didn't like it, because I did!) Overall it was quite adorable and humorous. ;)) I loved seeing a sequel-esque type follow-up to Tangled. That said, I really do hope they make a Tangled 2. ;)

So last weekend I watched Real Steel. ;)) I don't know why, seemed like a good idea at the time. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't that great either. I would liken it to a slightly more grown-up version of a Saturday morning cartoon like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh. So if you like that sort of thing, you'd probably like this movie. :P

Actually I do have to give full kudos to the animators. The graphics were really spectacular... better than Transformers and that movie had pretty decent graphics. ;)) So that was kind of cool.

Oh, and the owner of the big bad robot at the end looked like a Japanese version of Ben Barnes. That was hilarious as well.

By the way, Shadowlander, there's a moment at the end of the movie that made it a must-watch for you, at least the very ending. I won't tell you what it is, but I think you'll like it. ;) So if you ever see it pop up on Netflix, skip to the final climactic scene and watch. ;)

Well, thanks to a good friend of mine I finally saw Braveheart (1995). :D I really don't think I need to sum up the story as everyone is familiar with it and if your not... well, go to Wikipedia. ;)

So... After hearing all the praise this film gets, my expectations were highly tempered in the direction of expecting something less than great. Thankfully, Bravegeart is actually a very good, well made film. I still don't think it's one of the "greatest movies EVER!!", but it was good.

The acting, cinematography, music, special effects and editing were all top notch for the most part. There were some moments during the third act that I felt the editing and music clashed, but nothing overly severe.

The characters were all very solid.... except for the Princess. It felt like they needed someone "human" to be on the Brits side and to help Wallace, so they gave the roll to the Princess. Oh yeah and also to give that message

Spoiler
that she is pregnant with Wallace's child to the king before he dies as a kind of "Ha! You lose!!" at the end.

Also, for some odd reason, Braveheart just didn't set right with me nor did I find as enjoyable as... dare I say it, Legends of the Fall (1994). This really surprised me as the latter is a complete amorality tale with an ending message of "Heh, just do what you want and live your life as you want it." while the former deals with honor, betrayal, freedom and living for something more than yourself. So liking Legends..., the overblown high production values Soap Opera, over Braveheart confuses me slightly, but that's the way I feel. :-??

In the end, I'd recommend Braveheart to most of the members over 18. It definitely earned the R rating it got, though it's still a very good movie.

Braveheart is highly overrated, IMHO. One of my uncles loves it, he thinks it's better than Gladiator (Gladiator is one of my favorite movies). Yes, he's completely nuts, but he is from Kansas and that explains a whole lot. ;)

I went to the library today with my Mom and brother, and got North By Northwest and Emma(1996). I haven't seen either movie yet. I'm hoping we might be able to watch part of one tonight, but I don't really think that will happen.

I couldn't make it through Braveheart. ;)) I can stomach most gore, but when it got to the end where they were about to torture him to death I was like, "Ok, time to finish now". ;)) I'm fine with fighting and battles, but something about torture scenes just makes me squirm.

But yeah, amazing how I can make it through the whole of the Patriot with nary a blink, but the hand-to-hand fight scene in Bourne 2 with the kitchen knifes reduced me to squealing as I watched through my fingers. The Bourne movies could always make me cringe...first it was guys killing each other win ballpoint pens, and then it was my ultimate fear, SHARP KNIFES. Seriously, box cutters make me sweat; watching guys go at each other with steak knifes gives me nightmares. ;))

Ditto. Braveheart is the first and only movie I've ever had to walk out on. At least I knew going in what I was getting into, but ugh... can't do torture and I certainly can't do it that graphically. The movie's score is my favorite of all time, but I hate the movie itself.

I've walked out (well, turned off) quite a few movies, but was able to make it through this one. Now that you mention it, the torture scene at the end might have had something to do with why I prefer Legends of the Fall... no torture scenes in that one.
Of course, I will kindly disagree about the score and stand by my love for Legends of the Fall. ;))

Ah! North by Northwest is a great thriller movie! :D Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint and James Mason... You can't go wrong with a cast like that. B-)

No opinion on Emma since I haven't seen that one, though I doubt I'll ever watch it. It's probably my second least favorite Austen book, so no intention of watching a movie adaptation of it.
