I just got done watching "Hidden in Silence". It’s a true story about a young woman in Poland who hid 13 Jews in her home during WWII. Very very good. Nothing too bad: 1 swear word, and violence, but that's to expected. Nothing horrible.
O and SnowAngel: Kellie Martin (Christy Huddleston ^) plays Fucia, the girl...which is very weird because she has a very thick accent. I think you'd like this though. Defiantly something I'll watch again - soon.

AslansChild, it looks interesting, I'm going to look for it.
We all watched Bringing Up Baby (1938) last night. We hadn't seen it in quite a while. It was really funny, better than I had thought it was.

Hello
So... any Ghibli fans, I was wondering, if any of you could tell me about Castle in the Sky? It looked really interesting with pretty nice animation, and I would like to see it. But, I wanted to know if it had: blood and gore violence, bad morals, iffy themes (you know ... <--- this kind of stuff ), really funky spirituality (don't take this as "Oh my goodness, there was a one second scene of some idol in someone's house!!", I talking about really out there stuff), or scary images. Positives about the movie would be appreciated, too!
Thank-you.

Hi mate,
Yes, I'm a huge Studio Ghibli fan. Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986) is rated G here in Australia (but yes, by Christian standards that doesn't always give it a free pass). That said, it's the usual weirdness from the studio - quality animation, music, strong characters, voice acting and an interesting environmentally-minded story. There is a little violence but it's very tame and mostly slapstick. There's very little blood and a hint of Eastern themes but that's it. The most worrying thing is that the lead girl is dull (and that's a real shame, especially for Studio Ghibli). Overall, it's not their best effort but it's still incredibly good.
Studio Ghibli anime are generally very safe watches for young families but there are a few exceptions - Pom Poko (which has some weird themes and spirituality) and Princess Mononoke (which has moderate bloody violence and Eastern spirituality). The former I would avoid but the latter is fantastic if you're 12 or up.

The AMC channel has been running Die Hard and Die Hard With a Vengeance this week. I've seen them before, but this is the first time since reading Shadowlander's comments on the original. Alan Rickman really does do a great job as the villain.
It was presented with "Story Notes" - little comments on the bottom of the screen that occasionally offered bits of info on anything from music (nods to Singing in the Rain and the use of "Ode to Joy" by the bad guys) to sets, props, and actor trivia. I learned quite a bit.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I just watched "My Date With The President's Daughter" (starring Will Friedle, 1998) and it's hilarious. and epic! I honestly didn't have very high expectations for it, but man, it's good Will Friedle is hilarious in it (I was not surprised by this fact since he was in Boy Meets World and did an epic job on that show ) I highly suggest it for anyone who wants a good laugh

one past movie I really like is beauty and the beast. Because there's like a spell and stuff and the guy is a beast, but when the spell is broken
And I think that's cool.
A few movies my parents and I picked up this weekend, but need to watch. (We are slowly working on house repairs from our move (mobile home) and are not set up for movie watching yet).
Three Musketeers (the new one). Saw this in the theater and I think its one of the better adaptations of the story. Certainly better than Disney's adaptation (1993, with Kiefer Sutherland and Chris O'Donnel) and The Musketeer (2004, with Justin Chambers and Tim Roth (this is the kung-fu version)). I haven't seen The Four Musketeers (with Michael York, 1974) to compare. The new one is a good action flick. Not the strongest for story, but better acting than the others, and some of the best movie sword fights I have seen.
Letters to God: Saw this once before. About a 10-year old with cancer who's way to pray is to write letters to God. Throughout the story, he impacts the life of a end-of-his-rope-mailman and the entire community. Really good Christian message that isn't forced and a good, clean movie.
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close: I have not seen this movie but heard a lot of good reports about it. I'm looking forward to it.
Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

You see? I never lie about such things . Now there's four of us who have seen Die Hard on this site! Woot!
I watched Batman Returns this weekend at work. That's the one with Danny Devito as the Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman and Michael Keaton as...wait, was he in the movie? I could have sworn it was about Penguin and Catwoman. I think Batman was in there for a few minutes somewhere, but it seemed to be more about the villains of the film than the hero. And I think Christopher "More Cowbell" Walken was in there too, but it kinda seemed like his part was redundant.
Seriously, I really don't like Tim Burton movies. I'm giving serious thought to watching all of the Burton-directed and/or produced films in order to see if I can nail down why his style/plots rubs me the wrong way (except for Ed Wood which was a really great and underrated flick), starting with Beetlejuice and working all the way up to Sweeney Todd. Perhaps I can finally put to (digital) paper what it is that I can't quite articulate now.
So, should I?

I enjoy some Tim Burton flicks but many are just too similar to each other, trying too hard or just not to my liking.
Four of us have seen Die Hard? Probably more. I've seen the first three. The first was obviously the best of the lot. I also enjoyed the one with Fort Knox. The one of the plane was pretty mediocre though.

Last night, I finished watching Blood Diamond with my older brother and a cousin. It's the third time I have seen it, and I still cried. It's one of my favorite movies (I have a long list of favorites). I really the depth that the story has. A lot of action movies didn't have very much depth in their plots, but Blood Diamond does. And of course the acting in it is very good. I love action movies and Blood Diamond is one that has everything: a good plot, plenty action, good acting, and it makes you laugh and cry.

Why not? As long as you survive the endeavor, it should be pretty interesting to see what you find out.
I personally haven't seen any Tim Burton films (to my knowledge). From what I've heard of them, they've got a dark feel to them and opinions are mixed. Watching his films aren't very high on my priority list. I really don't know if I would like them or not.

Finally saw War Horse. I rather liked it too
My favorite scene was
"The mountains are calling and I must go, and I will work on while I can, studying incessantly." -John Muir
"Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed." -Richard Adams, Watership Down
I really want to see War Horse, but it never works out Oh well, I hope to buy the DVD soon
Yesterday I watched this really sweet movie "Young in Heart" with my sisters. It was made in the 30's, but it was very entertaining, nevertheless. Anyone else here seen it?
