Are you sure, Shadowlander?
I was born in the early 80's and I remember watching Yogi Bear when growing up. ;)) (and I -vaguely- remember Huckleberry Hound!!)

It's so weird to see live-action versions of the Smurfs and Yogi Bear coming out. And here I thought it was weird knowing about remakes for Footloose and Karate Kid. It makes me feel old... and none of the new things are ANYTHING like what I grew up with (from what I can tell). Can't they just leave well enough alone? *sigh*

*resumes watching 3 Ninjas and it's sequels* :p

I'm pretty sure, PA ;)). I begin to think it is the job of the previous generation to lament the state of affairs or lack of quality in certain things in the present generation. I look at Spongebob and Rugrats as heinous creations that would have flamed out and crashed dramatically had they aired them in my youth. But they do well now...and I have no doubt that when today's kids are grown up they'll do the same thing we are when they lament the state of cartoons 20 years from now, saying many of the same things we're saying now. ;))

I can't remember which one it was, but there's one of the 3 Ninjas movies that's on my list to watch of the worst ever movies...I think it's the Mega Mountain one. It's a quest thing. :))

You mean the fourth one, that has none of the original actors? (I think Hulk Hogan was in it??) I'm not sure how I feel about that one. ;))

I like the other three, though. It's hard to explain the order, though. Seeing as the second filmed came out third. Weeeiiirrdd, huh? 8-|

But I think either that one (knuckle up) and the original are tied as my favourites... or I might like that one slightly better than the first one. :-o The one where the actors first started being different (kick back; aka third filmed, second released) is funny, but I sooo wish that Michael Treanor and Chad Power had stayed to finish the series as Max Elliott Slade did. Oh, well... at least Colt was the same all throughout... he was my fave anyway. :p

And yeah, I think it's normal for people to always compare things to when in their youth. I just feel too young to be starting that already. It's creepy. =))

Yogi Bear cartoons were from the 60's but they were repeated in the 80's (at least here in Australia). It wasn't great TV or anything but it passed the time.

Shadowlander, I don't like Sponge b**b but what's wrong with Rugrats?

It's Sponge Bob, by the way ;)). Rugrats, Doug, and the rest of the Nickelodeon nonsense is when I think cartoons really went into a nosedive, the irony of which is that Nick had absolutely great cartoons in the late 80s like The Mysterious Cities of Gold and several other imports. The 70's and 80's had these great, action packed cartoons that oftentimes had immersive stories that kept kids hooked for years. They weren't afraid to show combat and sometimes even character death if it bettered the story and really meant something. Rugrats (and the rest) came out in mid-90's I think when we were sorta getting very passive with such things. You could still find traditional cartoons or kids shows but the ones that featured struggles between factions, characters, etc. went drastically down because parents were afraid if their little tykes were shown a cartoon weapon their kids would grow up to be ravening warmongers. But it wasn't restricted to just that, there was also a gradual lessening of story too. A lot of the older cartoons may have featured violence in one degree or another but they also often portrayed a deeper battle of good vs. evil, and that's never a bad thing. How does one do this with Rugrats? In fact the moment I gave up on modern cartoons at all was when I read a review of the Rugrats Movie, a snippet of the review stating that parents should beware "scary moments that might frighten kids".

Really....? Seriously....?

And don't tell me "it's meant for younger kids" because at that age me and my friends were watching stuff on TV that kids today wouldn't be able to sleep for weeks after watching. I don't mean to come across as Mr. Macho here, but good grief...tell me when the 80's come back, I miss em'. :P

Oops. Sorry, I meant 'Sponge Bob'. As for Rugrats, I totally agree with you that cartoons have become more passive in recent years and I'm all for showing intense adventures and whatever but it's not Rugrats fault. The series was an entirely different kettle of fish and fairly subversive with some of it's humour and and themes. Not inappropriate for kids but it was never about a battle between good and evil, only the adventures of some toddlers and their families. Reviewers get too PC, the Rugrats movie wasn't the least bit intense for any age-group. And the series is much better than the movie. There are much better cartoons, no doubt, but it was good for what it was.

I remember the 3 Ninjas. I think I've only seen the 2nd one (when they go to Japan with their grandfather). Cheesy but definitely not the worst. Mortal Kombat was far worse.

I watched Rugrats and Doug on occasion growing up. Wasn't interested in the movies. As for Smurfs, I've heard that the best of that genre of movies. I also watched Alvin on occasion as a cartoon but won't see the movie or the Squeequal.

Be watching for the release of my spiritual warfare novel under a new title: "Call to Arms" by OakTara Publishing. A sequel (title TBD) will shortly follow.

Yeah, Fencer. They go to Japan in the second one (aka "3 Ninjas: Kick Back", the third filmed). That's the one with the new Rocky and Tum Tum. It's my least favourite of the three.... but it's not horrible. It's got some funny moments in it. :) *doesn't count the fourth as existing*

Yeah, I remember watching Doug and Rugrats too. I remember thinking they were meh. Meaning, I'd watch them if nothing else was on, but I didn't really hate or love them. They just were sorta there. ;)) Never saw any movies of those sorts of things. I'm not sure whether or not I'll ever see the Alvin, Smurfs, or Garfield movies... it's just too weird. And they look... strange. :-s

We watched The Fellowship of the Ring again!!! :D
Needless to say I could watch that movie over and over again!!! ;) :D
It holds a special place in my heart because it is the reason I'm a LOTR fan! :D
We were able to watch our Blu-Ray extended editions, the color and sound are outstanding! It looks awesome in Blu-Ray! :D

We also re-watched Star Trek (2009) I really, really like that movie. :) Having no knowledge of Star Trek before I saw the movie a few years ago, I really like how they introduced you to each character.
I'm very happy that J.J. Abrams was signed as director for the sequel a few days ago.
And that filming will star this winter!
Really looking forward to seeing it! :)

I know how you feel about The Fellowship of the Ring 7chronicles!!! My sisters and I watched it soooo many times, but every time your heart skips a beat!
They're filming a sequel??? Wow, I didn't know that! That's sooo cool! I hope they do a good job, though, because most sequels I've seen were worse than the first films. :(

@De_De: Yes, thats exactly how I feel about The Lord of the Rings! They are timeless! :D
Yeah I hope the sequel is good! It was supposed to come out in June or July next year but J J Abrams had to finish Super 8 first and there were a few other delays, so I think it will come out near the end of the year next year! :)

I watched "Up" for the first time the other day (I know, I'm behind on the times a little) and it was AWESOME! Now I see why it was nominated for Best Picture. For a "kid's" film, it wasn't afraid to "go there".

Next up, "Tangled".

I really liked "Up" too, mm1991! Another timeless movie! I have never seen a cartoon like it. It had this originality to it! I loved Russell, he was soooo cute

I agree 90's cartoons are way better(extremely) better then cartoons these days. The ones now are all the same and too stupid because they all have to be " perfect" which makes it boring because all they do is help people and no one is evil. Rugrats movies were good but the series was better. I didn't like the grown up version of it though.

That's awesome, mm1991! That's a wonderful movie, probably the best animated one I've ever seen - unless that would be Tangled. So enjoy! :D
