Anyone here familiar with the movie The Matrix? I haven't seen it, but it has me curious, and I'm wondering whether I should rent it or not.

Familiar with The Matrix? It was only one of the biggest movies in movie history! The Matrix is a very good movie - great action with an incredibly interesting philosophical story. Sadly the sequels fall far short (they're not terrible though). The Matrix has some bad language and intense violence but it's not gorey or anything. I'm curious to read your thoughts on the movie.

Sounds good. I'll probably rent it, then. I was never allowed to see it before now (I became an adult not too long ago), because for some reason my parents and their friends and relatives thought the movie was super Anti-God or something. o.O
Then I heard a bit more about it and started to think perhaps they were mistaken...
It started to look very interesting to me once I started watching clips of Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith on Youtube.

The Matrix isn't anti-God. There are actually many parallels that can be found with the Christian faith and our beliefs. Just don't expect a blow-by-blow story of the Bible, because you won't find it. Yes, there are elements of other religions to be found in the movie - Gnostic beliefs and some Buddhism but if you're grounded in the Christian faith and can seperate fiction from fact, you'll be absolutely fine.

To echo W4J's statements, I can't think of anything blatantly harmful about The Matrix. I really enjoyed the first film quite a bit. The story is good, there's great suspension of disbelief (the story is far fetched but believable in a sci-fi fan sort of way ), and fantastic martial arts action. I didn't much care for the sequels...I'm sure GB will be along shortly to submit his defense on those .
I watched a little bit of Time After Time on youtube and while the special effects haven't aged well we're still talking about David Warner and Malcolm McDowell here. Both great actors and they really sink their acting hooks into the roles. Other than special effects I think the film (from what I've seen thus far) holds up quite well!

Watched Pocahontas. I really miss Disney creating films like these. I don't know why there are some parts of Disney I barely like. Anyways, Pocahontas has this great concept since it has some history attached to it. Kind of remembered me of the Inca's history

I just attempted to watch Zathura. Horrible, IMO. I didn't like one bit of it, I couldn't even finish it- turned it off half way. Jumanji is SO much better, it helps also that I saw that one as a kid when it first released. Even so, I enjoy it now and own it.
But Zathura? I don't wanna know anything else about it ever.
Zathura? I don't think it was horrible but it was definitely a step down (actually a flight of stairs down) from Jumanji.

Zathura that movie with that twilight girl in it?
Zathura that movie with that twilight girl in it?
yeah... That's the one. Josh Hutcherson is in it too, and I thought he was great in Bridge to Terabithia, and I enjoyed Journey to the Center of the Earth too.
*likes Zathura very much actually*
So I just finished watching Avatar . . . not the best movie ever like some people were saying. Definitely Dances with Wolves redone. But the CG was INCREDIBLE. BEAUTIFUL. SOOOOOOO PRETTY! And this was just the regular movie, not the 3D and I watched it on my laptop.
So yeah, didn't care for the actual story so much, but the CG was definitely worth a one-time watch.
@Liberty: Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't like your normal cartoon though. I don't know which episodes you saw, but the storyline is really complex and the character development is amazing. Aang is kind of goofy and Katara is kind of annoying and Sokka is kind of useless and Zuko is just plain whiny in the first few episodes, but once it picks up momentum . . . man, it's amazing. It's just great.
P.S."Brooklyn!"
narnian1: I love Zathura! it's really epic! and Josh Hutcherson is one of my favorite actors!
Rising_Star: oh, ok, good to know. I might try it again. my friend's been on my case about it too

I think most people (myself included) feel the same way about Avatar.
If you thought the CG was great watching it regular, you would have Loved it in 3D! IMAX 3D was incredible!
When Avatar 2 comes out if you were up to it, I would highly recommend seeing it in IMAX 3D if you have an IMAX where you live.
I can watch Avatar and enjoy it because the world of Pandora (the planet) is really beautiful and I really like all the creatures and plant life.

I have never seen Avatar. I just got tired of hearing all the hype about it that I just never got around to going to see that one. Might give it a try though just to see the CG
Wrong will be right when Aslan comes in sight / At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more / When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death / And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again
Definitely Dances with Wolves redone.
I always thought that Avatar was more of a Pocahantas on another planet... but then again, I've never seen Dances with Wolves
