I don't even live in U.K. - I live in America!
I call her Duchess Catherine because, in the U.K. (and commonwealth countries?) it is not proper and actually can be considered insulting since she is a royal now. You would call a "commoner" just Kate. I mean, you wouldn't call Prince William just William, would you?!
We do, actually

Just like we call Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York (or is she still?), Fergie. Fergie she is, and Fergie, she stays, it seems. At least we know who we are talking about.
Mind you, we've had a real Royalty fest recently, with the christening of Crown Prince Frederick and the former Mary Donaldson's twins. Oops, she is now Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, isn't she? But she is of Taswegian origin, being born Australian.
Actually I loved the ceremony. Did anyone notice the readings from Romans? There was in those readings a very pointed reminder how to treat others, including those people who were not of the same class as oneself (if of a 'better' class), including a reminder not to be haughty. Much of the reading was from Romans 12, I think. Did anyone catch it?
I've personal reasons for loving that ceremony. And I am so glad it went off without a hitch, including threatened Terrorist activity. The following day, April 30th, our own family went out to celebrate our 40th Ruby Wedding Anniversary, also noted at Morning Communion at Church on May 1st. For that service the Minister chose the same hymns as were sung at the Wedding, Oh Love Divine, the Charles Wesley hymn, plus Guide me O thou Great Jehovah.
In the press there has been some commentary about the other anthem sung, Blake's Jerusalem. I thought it was a decided reminder to the newly married couple and to everyone else that life can be what you choose it to be, if you choose aright. A definite poke at those anarchists etc who might have thought of disrupting proceedings. I didn't know that William Blake's 'Dark Satanic Mills' were considered in any way Republican.

Hehe, I was thinking of Fergie when I wrote that actually
Pretty much every royal gets referred to by first name (nickname in Fergie's case) except for the Queen.

I was quite glad off that too, although I did find it odd, especially after one of my favourite online bloggers pointed it out, that there was so much security that the Life Guards had to be escorted by police on the way back to the Palace from Westminster. Considering the Life Guards have their origins in the Horse Guards, which pre date the Metropolitan Police by about 171 years and no doubt have faced more challenging and dangerous operations than simply escorting members of the Royal family. Ah well.
(Might I be allowed also to offer my congratulations on your fortieth wedding anniversary?)

Hmm, here in America that doesn't usually happen...I've only heard Fergie and "Waity Katie".
I call her Fergie, but that is because I don't respect her.

I didn't watch it - didn't want to get up at 4 - but I am interested in it, and would have loved to watch it, and I am now watching footage.

My mom is very excited to have a daughter with the same name as the new Princess. Not like it's an uncommon name or anything.
I was up at 4 in the morning, but I was DJing a radio show and I tried to watch the wedding on the computer on hulu, but they were interviewing the Disney princesses, which wasn't really the kind of reporting I was looking for.
I did watch it. It was nice, but over-hyped. In the end it didn't live up to the amount of attention it recieved by the media. In some ways, I think I enjoyed the pre-wedding coverage (with the interviews and documentaries) more.
Anyways, I found this good news to be a nice break from all the bad news we see daily.
My best wishes for Will and Kate.

Thank you, it was a very nice weekend for us for that reason alone, apart from the wedding. As for the terrorists, there had been some group calling themselves Islam against Crusaders that had been threatening to disrupt proceedings with suicide bombers etc only shortly beforehand. I agree that traditionally the Horse Guards were Royalty's defence, but that hasn't stopped people from trying to assassinate various Royals over the years. I'd also like to point out just how sneaky the latest batch of terrorists have been, and the danger they have intentionally put everyone in, not just prominent figures like Royalty. And I feel for those beautiful horses.
Also I won't forget in a hurry, the security checks we had to undergo to travel between UK and Australia in 2009, when four men were on trial in UK for their efforts to blow up aeroplanes with drink bottles.

Yes. But it was a shame that Fergie didn't get to go to the wedding. Though her daughters did, accompanying their dad, the Duke of York, all with rather grim expressions on their faces. Though the dress Beatrix wore wasn't all that bad, her hat made me think of the reindeer horns everyone wore at last year's Christmas parties.

Aye, that is true. Unfortunate, but true. I am sure that it was due to the vigilance of everyone in any sort of security capacity that the day was a success and enjoyable for everyone.
The horses were a great part of the colour of the activities going on outside Westminster Abbey, it was quite neat to see the Life Guards and the Police, although the latter were not quite as prominently seen, I suppose, and of course the rest of the regiments and service men and women as they partook in the events. It must have been special for them!

I didn't plan on watching it but I caught the end and saw a section of clips and I'll admit it, i cried a bit Just at the bit when Prince Willian told Princess Catherine she looked beautiful- that was really cute. And the dress was really pretty!
