I think I've finally decided to actually go with my initial idea. I posted the synopsis over on NaNo, here, if anyone's interested.

I'm having trouble with a cover. Where are you guys getting your pictures? I'm finding plenty that I like online, but I don't like to use them without permission. I suppose I could go around trying to contact people about their pictures? :-s
I wish I could draw, paint-something! :P

Nice story synopsis, DtR! Now I'm hooked. :D

I got my pic(s) from stock image websites. A lot of them will give you pics for free, but for this particular cover I just used a sample-sized image that you have to pay for a larger one. :p I figured that since it's just for my own personal use, it's ok. And I won't be able to use it in my printed copy anyway; so it's a bit of a moot point.

I could see you wanting to ask for permission of you're grabbing stuff from a place like Flickr or Deviantart, though. :)

I don't think using pictures from online is problem if you're just using them in a fun cover. Besides, if you're interested in getting this novel published, it's unlikely that the publisher will use the cover that you created. Even for the free proof copy, I don't think it's a problem to use the copyrighted images if its just for you to have privately, not making any money off of it.

RE: Outlining, for this year’s novel I’ve written out my character names and a brief sketch of their character traits and also a quick summary of the story. I brainstormed for awhile to think of some subplots for the story and also how to end it. That’s what I encourage the most. If you want to do the absolute minimum in outlining your novel, write a vague description of how your novel will begin, something about what will happen in the middle, and the most importantly, how it will end.

Last year I wrote the character sketches and names for my NaNo novel, but I had no idea where I was heading. Having a destination in mind is a good thing, especially since the point of NaNoWriMo is to start and finish your novel in a month. Of course, you can also just go crazy and have no idea where you’re going… :p :D

Avra, I forgot to tell you. I'm doing the young writers program and you can't make some one a friend who's in the regular program, so I don't think you'll be able to add me. :(
D-T-R, VERY cool idea for a story!

Woo! Lots of Narniawebbers doing Nano. That's great! I'll add you all as buddies :)

I finally decided on a name for my novel: The Long and Winding Road (yes, like the song from The Beatles :p). So, I made a cover:

ForeverFan: I love your cover! Specially how you superimposed those images :)

narnianerd: Great cover! It definately makes sense with your story!

malkah: I really like your cover, it looks really classy and professional :)

Rising_Star: Wow, your cover left me curious about the story! That's a great thing. And I'll have to agree with you when you said that you would like to read everybody's stories when they're finished :) And congratulations on the dialogue, that's a good sign :D

DTR: Ohh, I like it! It's great twist from Sleeping Beauty.

Have you heart about the project "30 covers, 30 days"? It sounds good. A graphic design company will choose 30 in progress nano novels and will make a cover for them. If you want to be chosen you have to have a title, synopsis and, if you post an excerpt (after Nov 1st), you have more chances.

Thanks to malkah for the lovely avatar!

That's awesome! I've been addicted to The Beatles since I was 5...;))

I've decided it's probably best if I sit this year out. Probably next year and hopefully then I'll have more experience.

Wow,Destined-to-Reign! That's really creative.

Thanks! That's great, Lark! I'm a HUGE fan also, so I thought they might as well be a part of my novel :)

Just curious, is anybody going to write in another language? I'm writing in spanish.

I'm on NaNo but I've got to remember my password 8-} . I think I'm going to be doing a steampunk story. Before you think its some sort of rebellious faction, its not. Jules Verne was one of its fathers :D

But instead of sticking to the Victorian London scene, its going to be on an another planet. Not that its original, I'm sure other people have thought of it before, but not a lot of people do steampunk.

I've been wondering for quite some time what NaNoWriMo is, and now I know! Yesterday I made an account on there: my name on there is Laura Elizabeth. It sounds really fun!

Welcome, Laura E. A.! :D Glad to have you with us. :)

I just made a blog for the purpose of NaNo... I don't know if I'll have time in Nov. to update it every day or anything, but I'll probably post parts of the story as I go... And others who have nothing better to do can read it. ;))

I'm also hoping to blog on my NaNo experience this year, but we'll see how that goes...here's the link to my blog in case anyone is interested. :) I'll also have word count widgets and all sorts of fun stuff on there, so you can keep up with me that way. :p

I'm now officially lost . How can I add someone as a buddy and do I have to confirm those who have added me?

Mehien, you need to first click on the profile of someone on NaNo that you want to add. If you go to the NWeb thread in the Groups forum, you can do that by just clicking on a username. You can also search for their username, if you know what it is.
Then on the left-hand side, there will be a button that says "Add as Buddy". :)

As for confirming other people, I don't think you really can...I don't think it's up to you on weather people add you as a buddy or not. You will be notified, however, but a little text notification above your profile. And you can see everyone who's added you as a buddy by going to My NaNoWriMo > Writing Buddies > Buddy of.

Let me know if you have any other questions. :)
