Sqeeee! They actually opened the validator a few hours early, so now I've got my purple bar and goodies! I'm so excited!
In other news, I'm on track to getting 75k tonight, and hopefully my NaNo will be wrapping up within the next 5k or so. A few weeks ago 80k seemed so impossible and absurd, but now I'm at the doorstep. I'm so thrilled!
Congrats to everyone else who has won already, and a huge cheer of encouragement to everyone still plugging away. You can do it; I have faith in you!
Oh boy! I just hit 50k about an hour ago! I was so pleased to see my shiny green bar that I thought I might just keep it for awhile. But then I saw Gymfan's and FF's purple bars, and thought 'well, purple is my favourite colour, after all.' *hugs her purple bar*
The book's far from done though. I hope I can finish it by Monday. I really want it to be done.
Hyaline12: I must agree, your story sounds awesome...I'd love to hear how it turns out.
hyaline12 - your story sounds awesome! Seriously. I want to read it. Bounty hunters rock.
Aww, thanks both of you! You saved me from hating my story too much to finish it!
I hit 50K half an hour ago, yay! It exactly coincided with The Point At Which The Story Really Starts (the second one after finishing the WIP) which coincided with The Place I Lost All Ideas For Plot. Perfect...I think...
And I am totally keeping my green bar for the next five days. It looks so smooth and shiny compared to the glaring WINNER one.
Ugh, sounds nasty Delaney. Hope you're feeling better soon.

*hopes this post has enough...substance and is related to the topic on hand and disappears*
Dear days of old, with the faces in the firelight,
Kind folks of old, you come again no more.

I did it! I can't believe that I actually won this year! The past 2 years that I've done it, the closest I had gotten was 30k before giving because of other things. but I managed to hit 50k very early this morning! D

See the armies so arrayed,
Line on line, ten thousand strong.
See the Dragon King’s sharp blade,
Rising to a song!
See his enemies laid low!
Hear our voices sing:
Let glory crown the victor’s brow,
In the Hall of the Dragon King!
Congratulations to everyone who has already won!
I'm almost there myself...10k to go.

So I'm currently behind, but I think I can do it. I have 15000 words left to go! My birthday is on the 30th, and I'm thinking that if all goes badly for the rest of this week, I can just spend my day writing. I think I should be exempt from chores and school on my very own birthday. I was going to write yesterday night, but I was so tired I fell asleep right after I started up my computer.
I have my novel on a computer with Internet that only works for about five minutes a day, so that usually works well. Oh, and my story's going terribly. It's sad, because I started the month with such high hopes - because I was ahead with my word count, and my prologue was 7,000 words, and my plot was interesting, and I had a little tiny outline (that I threw away after my prologue, because it didn't fit after I started writing) and now I have no idea what I'm writing about anymore. I just have a vague idea of how my last few sentence are going to be.
Does anyone else not use contractions? Because really, who wants to turn two perfectly good words into one (even if it sounds better)?

Thanks to a late-night writing spree, I'm at 50K!! Although my novel isn't even close to wrapping up and probably won't be finished in November, having written so much feels amazing!
Huge congrats and cheers both for everyone who's passed 50K and those who are still getting there!

Nio: I use some contractions, but if I remember I quickly erase it and add another word.
Anyway... I still need 12,000. I was kind of hoping to be done by today... but that didn't happen. Oh well.

The first year, partway through i used "find and replace" to break up all my contractions. It ended up looking terrible, and after nano, i went back and re-did them. I think, based on the setting of the novel, i should have done something in-between.
The second year, i don't recall, but what i think most likely happened is i avoided contractions as much as possible; and considering it took place in a medieval fantasy world, contractions would have seemed a little out of place.
This year, i've used contractions because that's what i'm comfortable with, and because it fits with the world i'm using. It's worked out fine for me.
42,888 words. Just over 7k to go.

Conga rats to everyone who has completed the word goal already!! You all rock!!
It is currently 4:11 a.m. on Friday (yes, 4:11 in the morning), and I have been up all night writing. My word count is currently at 44,500, which is just 500 under the word goal for the day, so I am pleased with what I've gotten done tonight. I'm going to finish catching up later today.
My hand is cramping. And I'm tired, so I think that I am going to bed now.
Happy writing everyone!

Well, this year is actually going better than i anticipated. I have one story finished, the other is kinda moving - not as much as i would like, but more than one might expect from one lacking a solid plot - and somehow, yesterday/early this morning (?) i got way ahead. I have fewer than 2k to go. Yay!

I did it! I reached 50k!
My story is nowhere near done however. I had a feeling this would happen. But it is near-ish the end and I know exactly where I want to go with it so it should be easy to finish it up by the end of December probably. Then it's editing time and the finally self-publishing! EEEEEEE! I can't wait!
P.S."Brooklyn!"
Whoot, I finished mine last night! Finished meaning that I passed 50k AND finished my novel...only 200 words past 50k. XD It was sooo hard to keep it going long enough...It wanted to end at 45k, but I forced it onwards. Now comes the time for a good long break (from this novel...I'm still going to be working on my more long-term projects) and maybe get around to some editing in January. It needs so much editing, it's not even funny. >_<
Congrats to everyone else who finished and good luck to those who haven't yet! You can do it! :- D

Congrats to all those who've reached (or surpassed!) 50,000 words. I'm away from home, so my main story isn't readily available for me to add to, though I've been writing and typing pages of ideas during 'down times' in our Thanksgiving festivities. I may not reach 50k without massive amounts of typing when I return to my PC on Monday, but I still look forward to finishing this story even if it takes me into December.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
