Just out of curiosity, when you write one page in English, how many words are there in it? I'm starting to suspect that there are more than in a page written in Finnish , or writing is just somehow harder to me than to many of you.
I guess that Finnish grammar may play you some tricks - Norwegian does that to me to some small extent, in that the word "the" is not a separate word in Norwegian, but gets added as the last syllable of the word it belongs with. I lose about 5 % of the corresponding word count that way - perhaps I ought to add spaces to make it equivalent to English ...
I guess Finnish is the same - and what about prepositions? Do you use them - or is it all done by using a different case? If so, you could lose a lot of words that way too.

Closing in on 26,000 words! Nice to be over halfway.
That's very interesting, Varna...that the grammar of different languages could impose a word "penalty" so to speak. (I'm a bit of a grammar geek - especially after I studied German in high school and learned so much about English grammar )
Last year I edited my book after a suitable rest period. I was beginning to despise it by the end of November ...
I think I know what you mean. At the beginning of the month, I'd work on my story whenever I could, and was usually able to resist the temptation to edit large chunks of it.
Now I open the document and catch things as I'm scrolling to the end and start editing. And while it's still fun to write, it's not as fresh any more, and it doesn't consume as much of my spare time as before. (In fact, I've resumed my Lost rewatch - which was interrupted when NaNo started - as a diversion when I'm low on words).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Glad to see how everyone's word counts are climbing! You guys inspire me.
Today I'm hoping to get to 25,000...it feels really good to know I made it this far! I keep wondering if I'm moving my story along too fast and I worry that I won't have enough plot left to fill up the last 10,000 words or so, but then I look at my outline and I'm only halfway though that anyway.
Oh, editing...I'll probably take a break during Christmas and after that get to work. I already have another novel I want to start on, but I'm finishing this one first!

If I finished a novel, I always wait, half a year before I start editing, because I have an other look at it, when I wait 6 months.
I wrote 3200 words tonight. My total is now 9090/25000 so 36 %. It feels good (A)
What? We're on the second page? How horrifying.
Well, I got my 50k! I'm pretty chuffed that I was able to pull out the last 14k in the past three days. Now, it's on to bigger and better things. I'd like my novel to finish out around 80k, so I've got aways to go before I can call it done!
Congratulations, Gymfan!! Same here--I don't think my novel will be wrapped up by 50K... but we'll see.
*hopes for about 3,500 words today...*

Congratz, Gymfan15! =D That's awesome!
Well, I'm finally about at 30k and things are popping up that I did not expect at all. For one - I killed off a character already and I was expecting him to live until the very end. But it was so perfect that I just had to do it!
Otherwise it's mostly little things, details I hadn't thought about before but now that I come to them, it's so obvious that they need to be written about.

Haven't reached 30k yet, but i'm getting there. I might actually finish the first story i began, though more abruptly than i originally intended.

This thread seems to have started slowing down lately. Are people finally getting too busy to come post in the thread?
*wishes a big congratulations to Gymmie and Fanny, and anyone else who has finished* That's marvelous!!!
I'm right on track, although I wish I was a little more over it. After getting behind for the weekend, I've caught up again, and passed 30,000 yesterday. My novel seems to be improving very much now that my MC actually has people to talk to.
Oh dear, I feel so very, very behind on NaNo... I've been quite busy the past few days--I don't think I've even been on Narniaweb since Monday... Now that's busy.
Anyway. I really need to write a lot tonight. *grimaces*

Blah... I'm like 4000 words behind where I planned to be right now. *sighs* I hit that point where I wished I had picked a different story and I wanted nothing to do with it anymore. And then I didn't write AT ALL for 2 and a half days. Now I'm back into it, thankfully. Maybe I'll get caught up this weekend.
My story kind of went loopy as well - it's supposed to be Sleeping Beauty, but all of a sudden I went crazy adding mind-control and bounty hunters and a mind-reading phoenix and I stole my fairies from Shakespeare. The bounty hunters have me most confused, though. How did they get in there???
Oh, and Alyosha, I stole/borrowed your idea and named one of my villains Edward. He's an unwashed character who never combs his hair, so I thought it suited him. I hope you don't mind...
I'm going crazy with my story...I wanted to be finished it by now, so that I could start a 2nd one tomorrow, but I'm nowhere ready to finish it up! It's already at 54,000, and yet there's so many plots to wrap up! I even went back and cut out some bits and rewrote a scene for it all to work out better, and I'm still nowhere near being done. Heh. Maybe I won't be writing a 2nd one this year after all!!
Congrats to those who've reached 50,000 or more!
This month is going way too quickly. I've been out of town a few days visiting friends, so I haven't made any progress on my story (except for a few "aha!" moments as to where the plot should go next. And with a lengthy Thanksgiving trip coming up next week, I doubt I'll reach the goal in November (I'm at about 31,500 now).
But I hope to wrap this story up in any case, even if it takes a little while. It's been a lot of fun and has allowed me to expand my characters' little universe a bit.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I joined yesterday because some people convinced me to. I haven't even started yet.
