jbc, I agree that ending a story with the death of a main character can be a very poignant, meaningful way to go. I've contemplated writing about the death of one or more of main characters, or how they might die, but I'm not done writing about their adventures yet.
Mehinen, I checked a few of my pages and it varies from around 350 words/page (if there is a lot of dialog with paragraph breaks) all the way up to close to 600 (for pages filled with 'dense' paragraphs of descriptive prose). The average is probably in the 450-word range.
(It also depends on the font and size of typeface. For this story I'm using 11-point Arial. I switched a random page from 11-point to 10-point and the word count jumped from 535 to 609).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
I have an average of 476 words a page, using a 12 point font, single spaced.

*Winter skips in* 21,747 words! *collapses* I have a cover now, too! If you want to see it you can check my NaNoWriMo.... If you don't want to go through all the trouble of looking on my NaNoWriMo I can post it here...I guess.
JBC, I think I understand the conflict...I'm still debating about whether or not to kill off a character. Fortunately, I don't have to decide for another 20,000 or so words.
QueenSusan, I went to look at your worlde and discovered I don't have the right plug-ins. *Studies the puzzle peice icon.* Nice wordle.

JBC - at the very very end of my novel, I'm killing off at least one character for sure...maybe another one. But they're both the antagonists, so I'm not sure if that counts with what you're saying. *laughs*

I had to install the Java plug-in for it to work.
Ranger: Oh, I'm sorry! I hope things start going better for you!!
Well, yesterday was terribly busy, and I didn't get any writing done. At all. So yeah.

Ranger of Llangolen, Don't say that! You can only fail if you let yourself! You could alwyas lower the challenge for yourself, too. Just say: 'This is how many I want' and do it!
;)) I had to install the Java plug-in for it to work.
Yeah, I could do that. But, I'm leary of trying to install anything in case my computer explodes.

I'm hoping things will be going a bit better now. I never particularly liked my premise for a number of reasons, but as it was the only idea with an ending in sight and my goal this year has always been to finish the story i'm writing, i went with it.
Two days ago (or was it three? Drat those late night/early morning writing sessions!) i finally gave up on it and returned to my original premise - that is, writing about Mordred. I'm liking it better, though it's hardly gotten anywhere. I'm saving the other story, though; not wasting over 15k words. And who knows, maybe i'll wrap up both.
Great joke. Well, at least i have a slightly more enjoyable way of getting 50k.

YEAH, I feel good today, I wrote over 2000 words. I know it isn't that much when you compare it to what other people write, but I didn't write for a week because I was ill 2 weeks ago and had to do all the work I missed last week, so I didn't have any spare time last week But I'm glad I wrot e 2300 words today. It just feels good! (I wrote total 5888/25000, so I'm at 23 %)
Wow, its been awhile since I posted on this thread. I so wanted to do this this year but I've been to busy. I do however intend to get my ducks in a row so that I will be able to do it next year. I can scramble, become bleary eyed, and write unedited prose with the rest of you and have the time of my like doing it. Anyway I offer my great support to you all and wish you the best of luck in reaching 50K words!

Now I need to catch up to 15,000

Weeeeeelll... I was hoping to get up to 27,500 today, but unless I stay up another hour or so, that's probably not going to happen... I could've gotten a bit more writing in, except a post I wrote in the Christianity-Philosophy-Religion thread took half an hour.
Oh well. So yeah--tomorrow writing will be... a goal.

Hey. Glad to hear y'alls word counts are going up! I love that feeling when the blue bar gets bluer...Silly competitive me, I see other people's word counts and think 'Must Beat That!'. If it weren't for y'all I'd never be where I'm at now...
Just out of curiousity: What do you all do with your novels when/if you finish them? This is my first time at NaNo, and I haven't even thought about what I'll do with it in January...
Last year I edited my book after a suitable rest period. I was beginning to despise it by the end of November ... I can't remember exactly when I picked it up again, but by April I'd worked through my second draft, and over the summer I completed another.
I think the CreateSpace offer encouraged me to edit, actually - and then having my story in book form made me want to make it even better!
My NaNo wordcount's almost at 25,000, so I'm quite excited at almost having made it to halfway. I seem to be back in the rhythm of writing, which is great since the second week really has been a nightmare ... I'm also a lot clearer on what's going to happen next! And now I need to go write some more ...
