Hullo, all! I'm doing nanowrimo this year--I'm a bit nervous since this is my first year. I'm really looking forward to it though. :D I'm "dandelion_words" over there.

I'm thinking of doing a story involving time travel in a parallel/steampunkish (I'm not sure if steampunk is the right word, but the story will have old-fashioned styles with anachronistic technology) world—perhaps a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. What do ya'll think?

I tried doing an outline but it didn't really work. I'm hoping that just writing will work. :)

Everyone's ideas look really neat! :)

That sounds really cool meadowmaid! Good luck on that! I love retelling old fairy tales. It's just a fun thing to write.

Yeah, when someone adds you as a buddy winterstar you have to add them as your buddy in order for them to show up on your buddy list. Thing is, when you get over 30 (like me) it's hard to tell who's on both lists and who's not.

I'm so pumped up! I just hope this sickness of mine isn't swine flu (like my roomie's just getting over). :P That could definitely put a damper on the start of NaNo.

btw, for east coast people, I'll actually probably have 2 fellow students of mine joining me for the countdown on my end. Two new converts! *cackles madly* NaNo here we come!!!!!

Hurray for new converts!

:) 2 DAYS!!!!! :)

Welcome to the thread of craziness, MeadowMaid! Your idea sounds neat- I'd read it. I was going to do a modern retelling of one of my favorite fairytales, Thumbelina, but my current idea sank its teeth into me and won't let go!

To tell the truth, I'm actually pretty nervous. I'm at a loss for what people did in highschool forever ago! It's makes things slightly worse since I'm homeschooled. :p

You can do it, Winter. I'm sure you'll come up with something fun.

MeadowMaid, that sounds like a really cool idea. I'd want to read it too!

I think it's official. The idea I had at the beginning of the month has fizzed out and I have no enthusiasm for it. However... I now have a new idea and the characters are actually seeming like characters because they have names and personalities and interests. So, I'm happy. :D

What is that "Brooklyn" thing? Is it a line from a movie??

I wrote this - oh dear, nearly a month ago! Then we had a whole month left to prepare - now it's less than two days!

I've checked that my old account is still working - I'm Wise Queen, I failed in 2004, won in 2007, and failed last year. I think I'll try again this year, but I don't know whether I'll have time to do it properly.

Perhaps I'll be a rebel and try to finish what I started in 2007 - I reached 50 000 words, but I didn't finish the story - that wouldn't count for winning, though.

Or else I might decide to write about Varnafindë's youth.

Nothing about Varna's youth, after all. And not a rebel either - I'll redo the 2007 story from scratch, and hopefully finish it, too. I haven't made a cover, but this afternoon I made a banner to use on the NaNo forum.

The synopsis for the story is up, too.

Synopsis: Det merkelige brevet (The strange letter)

A young woman finds an old letter, written in code by her great-grandfather. Through her efforts to interpret the message of the letter, she gets to know her cousin, and together they try to do what the letter tells them - and find their great-grandfather's secret. (The novel is written in Norwegian.)

So I've still got a few hours to work on the outline ...

Yay it starts tomorrow!!! *dances around* I'm having a hard time reigning in my brainstorming till tomorrow. I have to cause I want to brainstorm right before I start and I got homework to do first. As of tomorrow, all input (or at least most) is gonna be cut out for the month. Which means no anime, manga, books or anything except for what I help sub each week.

I'm gonna finish that letter today or tomorrow, AJ. Really, I am. I've just been having too much input lately to write.

Avra, thanks for that suggestion! (Or, thanks Mrs. Avra's Mom! ) It gives me a couple ideas to work with.

Sometimes I'm good. Not often, but sometimes.

I have discovered a good use for being confined to one's room with the flu a few days before NaNo: 'tis a great time to pound plot points into a respectable shape. Though, after doing that, I had nightmares that the chronology of my story was getting thrown all out of whack by certain plots I know I didn't put in there. Weird. 8-|
Yay! More buddies to add! *goes off to do that*
EDIT: Hm, my author search seems broken. I can't find 2nd to One, AppleRain (WinterStar) or dandelion_words (MeadowMaid). Sorry, guys!

Hi everyone!
I've been browsing this thread for the last couple of weeks and everyone's ideas are looking awesome! I'm loving all of the book covers as well! :-bd

*takes a deep breath* I'm going to attempt NaNo for the first time this year! :) Right now, I'm alternating between excited and nervous, but I'm really interested in/excited about my book idea so I'm not really feeling worried!
My user-name is the same on the NaNo site as it is on here. :)

I'm going with Historical Fiction/Civil War era for my book (It seemed to fit when I started planning). I've been doing quite a bit of research the last couple of weeks, so I think I'm mostly prepared. :)

It's kinda funny, I have no really good ideas for a title or a book cover, but I have a very clear idea of how my book will go. ;))

Less than 2 days to go! :D *bounces up and down with excitement*
November is going to be SO busy (but I don't mind!)!

Just a quick note; if everyone makes at least one post in the NWeb NaNo thread here, everyone will be able to add buddies directly from that thread and bypass the Author Search altogether. Definitely the easiest way to keep track of everyone. :)

Is anyone else having trouble loading the NaNo site? I know that for the first few days of November it's usually down or takes a while to load, but since Tuesday I haven't been able to load it at all. I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone else was having trouble- perhaps it's my internet connection. (One other site, my hotmail inbox) takes a while to load or doesn't load at all most times, but eventually I am able to load it, whereas with the NaNo site it doesn't load...

Thanks!
