Something that he knows she needs/will like/will use. That shows that he pays attention and knows what she wants or needs.
Hmmm, good idea. I'll have to think of something like that.
I have the best mom ever. I do not have time to write today, other than a couple of hundred words (I actually only came on because I really needed to see if there were any answers to my question ), so she told me I don't have to do school tomorrow and I can make it up later! Yup, I'm gonna win. With all day tomorrow and less than 8k to write, losing is not an option.

Wow you do have the best Mom ever!! Go her! You should make her breakfast or something for her wonderful support.

I got to 50k. but I'm nowhere near finished

50K and finished at about 11:30 PM last night!
I think I'll get at least a couple hundred more words when I edit; maybe more. I feel like part of it is rushed, so I'll have to fix that by adding more words. 😉 I'm hoping to do some hardcore editing this year instead of just fixing spelling mistakes.
Does anyone have trouble remembering minor plot changes? I do.
I write things like;
"We didn't use the back door much, because..."
and then I forget, and the rest of the book they use the back door.
or
"So I shot this guy out of self defense"
and then I forget until a few thousand words later, and I never reference it again.
or
"Our stairs never creaked"
And guess what happens later? Yeah. The stairs make tons of noise.

That's what editing is for Queen Susan lol. Congrats to both you and moon!
That happens to me constantly, Queen Susan. Hopefully I can catch it all when editing.
Today. Watch me freak out. SO much of the story is left. I need to write, write, write, for hours and hours. I'm so scared and excited.

EEEEEEKKK!!!! I'M FINISHED!!! IT'S OVER!!!!
Okay, I'm done.
With 51K+ words, I submitted my novel today. Though, even then, I wasn't quite finished with it. It'll probably be at least 60K when I'm done, if not more. There was one more scene that I wanted to put in to bring it to a close.
Surprisingly enough, I think my writing improved the more I got into the story. The plot definitely holds together better in the second half than in the first. So most of the editing will be the first part, making it consistent with the rest of the plot. My story kind of took over halfway through and decided it wanted to be a far more elaborate plot than I intended, and then what'd you know, it turned out to be a prequel to the NaNoWriMo novel I tried writing two years ago but deleted. So next year I am going to re-write my ancient NaNoWriMo!!
It's worked out extremely well and I can't wait to edit/finish!! My first NaNo in 2009 was sad because the plot was too complicated to make it work. But this novel this year makes for a great segway into the more complex plot of my original story and at the same time it really simplified the original plot. And the characters are way better too!
I originally was going to make my story about my heroine and her brothers and their comrade, Clem. But it turned out to be more about Clem and my heroine and the brothers are more like side characters. I was really disappointed at first and felt like I wanted to re-write my entire novel just to bring in her brothers more! But then I realized, hey, if her brothers are going to be the main characters in the sequel, then it's actually really good that they decided to stick to the background of this one!!
Oh, and my novel went from being "adventure" to "adventure/fantasy". Sigh. I try.
winty, aren't parents the best? My parents have been so awesome this month, egging me on and letting me stay up until one in the morning to catch up on writing and such. It's been so great!
Queen Susan, I have that problem too!! Minor plot details and then just minor details always slip my mind. My main character has a pet snake which I keep forgetting about in my story, probably because I was hoping to make the snake a bit more interesting but didn't because I've never really liked snakes and so the snake just sort of disappears at some point when they get kidnapped and I never bothered to bring him back in. I don't know if I will bring him back or if I'll just edit him out of the story altogether.
I totally want to read some of you all's novels!! Post excerpts or something on here, 'kay? Now I'm going to go dance a jig and then catch up on the rest of my life. God bless!

Congrats to all who've won! I'll be joining your ranks sometime today.
So, how many of you winners are going to be taking advantage of the new Createspace offer for winners: http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/forums/special-offers-and-greetings-from-nano-sponsors/threads/29373?page=1
There's a whole debate raging on the thread and I'd love to hear Nwebbers' opinions on the matter. (I jumped into the debate at the bottom of page 6).
~Anna
So, with the new CreateSpace offer, is it an offer to help you publish the book, instead of just giving you a free copy?
~Riella
The deal is that they give you a code for 5 free printed books. The catch is that you must first purchase a proof copy and pay shipping (unless you've bought a book proof before because then you can skip this step), then you have to click approve proof which publishes it and only then can you order your 5 free copies (for which you still have to pay shipping). So, either way, you're paying money for shipping (though 5 copies to a US mainland address is less than $6).
The debate is over whether publishing your novel to get the 5 copies will ruin your chances of pitching it to an agent/publisher.
They're doing that?!! Oh my gosh!!! AWESOME!! That's just delightful!! If I'm understand it correctly. You pay for one copy, and shipping, and then you get all the others for free, except shipping?
I have 75k something. And I'm scurrying to finish my last chapter.
Edit: From reading the actual thread, it sounded like you just have to pay for shipping, and you don't have to buy the first copy. Is that correct? And what is the drawback? *isn't very bright*

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to all the NaNo winners!
And ALL THE BEST to those who are still trying to finish! Keep going; you can do it!
Just passed 42k... this part is surprisingly hard to write. I guess that is because I am finally hitting the romance part of my story, and I have never written a romance before...
I will win! There is no other option after getting this close.
I have the best mom ever. That's the spirit! All the best to you in the final stage of your writing, winterlife! And hurrah to your mom for her practical support!
Does anyone have trouble remembering minor plot changes? I do.
I write things like;
"We didn't use the back door much, because..."
and then I forget, and the rest of the book they use the back door.or

"Our stairs never creaked"
And guess what happens later? Yeah. The stairs make tons of noise.
Those examples made me smile, Queen Susan! (But not in the way of making fun of you, by any means! ) That must be quite annoying. But hopefully you can catch these minor inconsistencies when you edit!

I'm so glad that your story worked so well this year, RubyGamgee. That's great that you're so happy with it! And interesting how it turned out to be the prequel of your deleted 2009 novel, even though (from what it sounds like, anyway), you weren't originally planning it to be like that! And because you said that this sequel story is the one you're planning on doing next year, I bet you're really excited about, and looking forward to, writing for NaNo next year. Have fun dancing your jig (*thinks this is so cute*), and catching up on the rest of your life. And God bless you, too!
I have 75k something. And I'm scurrying to finish my last chapter.
Ooh, best wishes for your last chapter, Elanor! (But it must be nice to know you've already won with your 75 000+ words! )

I just won. At 77,678. I can't believe it. And I cried heartily as I wrote the last part. I'm incredibly happy. I'm so proud of myself. No matter what my novel is, I won, writing 7.4k today. And I'm so happy. Best NANO EVER!
Thanks to all you wonderful people.

I finished about 11:30 last night with 50,276 words. Less than my count last year, but I sill won, so I'm happy. This is my second year working on the same novel, and it STILL isn't finished - but I am very close, and I'd like to finish up the first draft sometime in December maybe when my crazy life has calmed down a bit.
A HUGE Conga-rats to this year's winners! And even to those who tried but didn't quite make it - you've wrote more words that some people have in their entire lifetime.
And for those who might be still trying to finish - GO GO GO!!!!

Less than 2k left to write! I am going to get as much done before youth group (which I will start getting ready for in about half an hour), then I will finish when I get home. No problem winning! I have not finished yet, but I am feeling extremely happy nonetheless.
Congratulations to everyone who has finished! And to those who, like me, are still trying to make it, come on! We can do it!
