I ended up writing 5,000 words yesterday - and the last 500 were written in 10 minutes before I had to get off the computer. I didn't expect to get so far in the first day, so I'm pretty happy with what I've written. It's turning out decently, a lot more decent than I expected it to, which is something I'm excited about. Last year's novel was written crazily in the last half of the month (I think I wrote 25k in 5 days?) so it's nice to be able to take my time.

Lacy and Bella, don't worry! Just because you haven't written anything yet doesn't mean it's impossible. Keep going and press on - you can do it!

I'm really happy about my word count yesterday - 3111. I just couldn't stop writing, though it wasn't as easy as it should have been. Right now I'm just writing random stuff, and I realized how awful my book is going to be. But again, I'm having a blast. And my characters aren't completely worthless - I think.
Congrats to everyone who did so well - and for those who still have none, it's okay. You have plenty of time.

Is anyone else trying to do this longhand or am I just completely insane? It's harder than I anticipated... I have a hard time writing junk on paper... especially when it's in a pretty journal. It gets easier after the first page, but still. I didn't even make it to the daily minimum yesterday, so I'm going to have to write roughly 2000 words today to catch up. And goodbye, cushion room!

your not alone - I'm doing it longhand and it's taking forever, but I think for me it's because I'm suddenly plagued by writer's block...

I'm at 4,014 words for now, but college studies and work are making it hard to find time to write, but I am determined I do partly long hand and partly on the computer, depending where I am.

I hit 2k yesterday. I haven't started writing yet today; figured I'd come on here and post to get it out of my system for a few hours so I can focus on writing.

I'm hoping to be at 5k tonight, so I'd better get going!

I'm a few words under 3000 right now. I actually got hung up on bit of description, so I'm taking a breather to try to figure out what I want to do with it. Though I've found I can get past most of my description woes by just being sarcastic about whatever it is.

I started NaNo yesterday, and today decided to switch stories. Yep. So I'm a bit behind, but catching up.

Yesterday, I went into this project (which is a continuation of last year's story) stuck in a boring party with very little detail planned. I struggled through it, but I figured I needed some sort of outline to push through this part. So I made a flowchart-type thing and filled in detail about the story, possible ideas and events, etc. It's really been helping me. Now I have more material to draw off of.

Ending today with 4,111 words!

Also, I might mention I have four real-life friends who've decided to take the plunge with me, so that's pretty cool.

What is everyone's daily goals? I was thinking of making mine 6K a day. I doubt I'll make that today, since I got a late start this morning. So maybe 5K per day would be better for me.

Very cool indeed! I bet it'll be wonderful to have friends in real life to offer encouragement and feedback.

I'm up to 3400 words - with more to come this evening (I hope) - which pleases me because earlier today I wasn't real pleased with the tone of my narrative in this story...especially when compared to last year's (which I've been consulting to make sure minor characters' details are right). It's like last year I was just 'in the zone' more of the time than this year.

But then, it is only November 2. And once I got going, about an hour ago, I got a good bit done before coming on here for a break.

That's very impressive progress, Ithilwen! At this pace you'll be done by the 10th. Whew! (Even at 5k each day you'd end the month at 150k words - impressive!)

Depends on the day. In General 1500 on the weekdays and 2-3 K on the weekends. Basically write what I can on the weekdays and catch up on the weekends.

Instead of really having daily goals though I'm just trying to make 10 K a week.

*comes in mumbling "10 years at sea, one day on land...depends on the day"*

Anyway, on topic I am at maybe 6 K or 6 1/2 K. I lost my document. Lost, I hope, only temporarily. Anyhoo. Yeah.

Actually I really hope my computer doesn't crash this month because I have no flash drives, and therefore no backup saving spots. If I lost this and Cotton-Tales, I'd be devastated.

My daily goal is 2.5k for now. I have to make at least 2k per day to finish (because of days I know that I won't be able to write), and I would like to give myself a little wiggle room for the days I might not be able to write as much.

I'm just past 3k right now, but I still have several hours to write, so I will probably have at least 5k by the time I finish today. At least, that is my goal.
