I totally understand where you guys are coming from. I'm in the middle of college apps and some really intense, time-consuming classes. I've barely even have time to breathe lately - but I really want to at least give NaNo a go. If I don't win, I don't win...but at least I tried. Plus, I'm looking forward to writing with you guys again this year!
I'm hoping things will die down just a little in November because I hope to have most of my apps in by then.

Whoa. TEN pages already!?! I leave for a week or two due to gymnastics Worlds (well, leave as in, I didn't really think of NaNo much, lol), and look how this place has exploded!
That being said, I feel woefully behind! NaNo is in a WEEK and I have got NOTHING done as far as prep goes. Ouch.
Well, here's one piece of prep out of the way! Here is the official NWeb NaNo thread! http://www.nanowrimo.org/en/forums/writ ... reads/9576
Please post there so I know your NaNo username! Let me know how many years you've done NaNo or if you're a newbie, what your story is about, and etc.
I will be pulling together a word war of sorts very shortly, so watch for that. If you do NOT want to participate in any word wars, please let me know so I don't add you.
I'll be having some moving house related projects to slow me down as well. But I wasn't sure about aiming for 50 000 words anyway - last year I aimed for 5000 and made it this year I should aim for 10 000. That might still be doable ...
I got some ideas a few days back and wrote them down - today I went to one of those name sites (thanks, Rose! ) and made myself a name list with names to choose from.
A Narnian royal advisor who is far too loyal to his secret Telmarine origin, but four hundred years before Caspian I's invasion ... could he be a Ruggiero, perhaps?
Then I need more names for the Narnian royal family, other than King Frank (14th of that name) and Princess Swanwhite. The list should supply what I need

I'm leaving for a bit during November too (as in, leaving town) and I'll have no way to write, so I'm going to get as much done as I can before and after that.
I've just finished a couple of versions of a potential cover. They each have a different picture. I think I like the first one best, but if I use it, I'll have to figure out how to use chess pieces as an object lesson.
Anyway, here's option one and option two. Which one do you guys like best?

winterlife, I really like Option one
I too am working on a cover, and failing miserably at it. I might just go for hand drawn... Don't know yet.
Also trying to figure out the first half and very end of my novel. I got a good picture of where I want to go with two scenes, but I might switch around the order or add more to the end because the action doesn't seem to be spaced out at all. I'm slowly filling up one notebook with notes.

"Be cunning, and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed." -Richard Adams, Watership Down
Option one, winterlife. Also one of those kings is in check. I'm just not sure which one.

I also really like option one, Winter. But they both are really intriguing!

Ooh yay! Are we doing teams again this year, I wonder?

I definetly want to be involved in the word wars. Teams would be great fun!
I like option one best, winterlife.
I'm definitely up for word wars this year, though I must ask a question to be enlightened: the only word wars I've participated in are roughly 10-minute ones held in chat. Could someone explain to me what the more formal, longer (and with teams?) word wars are? Thanks in advance.

^^Basically, people are divided into two groups and whichever group has the most words at the end of NaNo wins.
I'm up for word wars This should get interesting.

Yay word wars! Although I never actually managed to participate in a 'short' one over chat last year, probably because of time differences. Now that I'm in a different area of the world, maybe I'll have more of a chance.
I've also managed to introduce NaNo to my cousin, so am gradually accumulating real-life people around me to do this with, which is cool, because last year it was pretty much a solitary thing.
I'm really enjoying planning as well, which is really odd for me, because I've always hated it. It'll be interesting to see how it works once I start, because last year outside from a basic idea I pretty much made it up as I went along. The end result was interesting. But I'm looking forward to (hopefully) having a more cohesive story at the end with fewer contradictions.
So excited for November! 8 days!

I'm up for word wars too...now just to be on at the right time when they're declared.
My pages of notes just keep on growing. Can't wait to begin the actual story.
Oftentimes my titles seem to suggest themselves before November 1. This year seems to be an exception...I don't have a title yet. That's all right; there's still time.
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
