@Aslans Country from page 10 : Yes, Fringe as in the TV show! It's puurty interesting.
So I only just got to 23,000. 13,000 behind, but I'm confident I can catch up. November is the worst month for me in terms of busyness - I'm super busy with school and work and cleaning for a family and church related stuff and my family has birthdays on the 12th, 21st, 22nd and 24th, and mine is on the 30th... and that's not including extended family on the 19th and 23rd. Last year I had 10,000 to go on the night of the 29th, I went shopping the next day with with friends for my birthday, came back, and managed to win somehow, so I'm pretty sure I can manage winning again this year.
Anyone else have problems with no plot to speak of and nothing to write about? My characters don't have enough life trials (despite the evil scientists chasing after them) to keep the nonexistent plot moving, and so I've started making them tell each other bedtime stories every night. A very odd character is working on retelling Rapunzel right now, and retelling it in his way, and so far I'm enjoying myself immensely.
I've been avidly following this thread but only Lurking, and so I would like to say now that I'm loving everyone's novel excerpts! And yay Team Digory! And winterlife, that's so sad! Get well soon! And even if you can't win NaNo this year at least you have an interesting story to tell for upcoming years and a good excuse which is always cool.

Let's not let this thread die! No no no no no. NaNo is in the final stretch; we must not give up now!
This week is Thanksgiving, which can be either good or bad for you depending on your circumstances. As far as my novel goes, it's bad because I work in retail and Thanksgiving = horrific madness. But never fear! I shall prevail!
If you're in need of an extra push, try challenging someone to a long word war or goal. Me and theprincessspy are racing to see who can write 20k first and I fear that I am losing. But tomorrow is my day off, so... *cracks knuckles and laughs maniacally*
Just a few days left, but we can do this!!! Starting Sunday, I plan to hold mini Nights of Writing Narnianly all night every night in the chat room for everyone who is behind and in need of an extra push. There will be prizes doled out in the form of graphics, so if that's the kind of extra motivation you need, that's your place to be.
KEEP ON WRITING GO GO GO!
Ooh, gymfan, yay!!! I seriously need that! Since I won so early (the 18th I think), I haven't really written since then. Only 1,168 words in five days! I really need some pants kicking. I'd like to finish my story during NaNo and I only need another 5k or so to finish it.
Enjoy that word war, Gymfan and theprincessspy!
Hearty congrats to those who've reached 50k of late, and for those who have not, there's still a week to get there!
Team Polly is really falling behind. I'd like to help remedy that, but my word count has languished of late for various reasons, one being that my story is almost wrapped up. But I'm taking my story with me over the holiday weekend thanks to my trusty flashdrive, and may work on it when everyone else is asleep.
Besides, I've hit a roadblock...something that worked well when I introduced Erik to the Ditto World doesn't work so well when I'm trying to explore his background. 'Tis a minor thing though - fodder, perhaps, for another short story or even the foundation of next year's NaNo, since it's not crucial to this story. [/ramble]
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Oh my! What is this I see? A green bar?
Yep, I just hit 50k about five minutes ago, having written 4k of that this evening! Yay! But my story is not even close to being done, so I will continue to write until the very end of November. Frankly, I'm curious just how far I'll be able to get. Since we're traveling a lot for Thanksgiving, there'll be lots of time in the car where I can pull out my laptop and type away.
For those of you not there yet - keep going! You can make it! The feeling of hitting 50k is totally worth it!

YAY SILVER! I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!!! *insert sprays of confetti here*
To all the rest of you: GO, GO GO! YOU CAN DO IT!
I've got about 23k at this point, so now I'm just trying to write as much as I possibly can. Maybe next year I'll make it to 50k...
Gymfan, I hope I can aid you in keeping this thread alive. I have much more confetti to give.

75k seems an unlikely goal now - i'm still working on the story, but life, work and other stories are also calling me now. 65k, however, is a definite possibility.
Yay for those who have reached 50k! And encouraging cheers for those of you still typing away!

Well-- I'm done. Completely! And kind of sadly. But my story is finished, all wrapped up, and almost at 60,000 words. I'm editing it right now, and maybe when I'm finished I might have added a little bit to make it 60,000 instead. I hope to be completely finished editing on... Thursday? At least by the end of the month. That's my goal now that everything else is done.
Congrats to you all!! And keep going too!! You can keep up the good work!

*sits at 38k and is plodding along most unsatisfactorily*
I.. just killed off a character, which I'd been planning to do all along, but through the course of the story, that character started to mean a lot more to the main character than originally intended, so now I don't know if I can write their reaction at all realistically, and I'm considering changing that part. Except, I just need to get a move on and actually finish the story.
Ugh. Right now I just feel like I've written a horrible story, and it's so awfully depressing to write depressing parts. As it stands, this novel is not going to have a very happy ending.
Congratulations to all of you that have finished, I am in awe of you.

So-- out of curiosity, how can I get a little green bar thing in my status like a lot of you have?
Avatar by Wunderkind_Lucy!
I'm at over 82k, so I've obviously reached my secondary goal of making 80k. I'll just have to raise the stakes again; 100k. I think I can make that, and I dare hope that I'll be able to finish the story in time. I hope. A lot of my chapters are turning out a lot longer than I'd intended, due to a lot of minor characters insisting on getting their due time, and about a half-dozen new characters showing up and turning out to be pretty important to the overall plot.
*sigh*
WOOT WOOT!!! Congratulations to
Silver the Wanderer and Queen Susan! Let's not give up now, peoples, no matter the goal. If your goal is 30k, make it that far. If it's 10k, you can do it! Nano is about challenging yourself and learning styles to write.

So-- out of curiosity, how can I get a little green bar thing in my status like a lot of you have?
*Go to http://www.nanowrimo.org
*Sign in
*On the grey bar with all the options (About, FAQ, My NaNoWriMo, etc.), hover over Fun Stuff.
*Click on the 6th one down: Word Count Widgets
*And then just scroll down and you'll see all the options. Most of them, you can't post on here because they're bigger than NarniaWeb allows.
*Once you've chosen the one you want, look underneath it and you'll see the URL for it.
*The entire URL will look something like this: "" /> Copy and paste JUST THE PART INSIDE THE QUOTATION MARKS!! (If you paste that entire thing including ," it won't work.)
*Put the NarniaWeb image key letters around that URL [img][/img.] without the period.
*Hit submit and there you go!

Ditto! It's also about learning what works for you and what doesn't.

The validation is live, folks! Don't forget to get your shiny purple bar!
Congrats to everyone who's written a lot in the past few days. I sadly have not accrued much to add to my word count. Eeep! But tomorrow, I promise to write till my fingers fall off!
My validation is not live yet. I can get my purple bar in two hours! However, I'm not going to stay up until midnight to get the bar like I did at the beginning of NaNo. I was up until 11:30 working on a paper that was due so I was like, "Oh whatever, I'll just stay up until midnight and start writing as soon as NaNo begins."
