[Closed] NaNoWriMo '10 - Stats Up!

Okay! Two new items of interest!

First off...remember how last year, we all did so well, and I wished that we could compete as a region? Well, now we can! :D Sort of. I found a website that is meant for team word wars, and I added all the NWebbers I could find! Check it out!

http://utahwrimos.net/nano_stats/wars/s ... 33d15a4996

Right now it's just us listed, since I don't have a team for us to "war" against. Maybe next year I'll think of this early enough to find a real-life region that wants to compete against us. For now, this is just so NWebbers can see how they stack up against each other. If I get bored, I just might divide everyone up into two teams and then let them deck it out. ;)

Secondly, I am VERY excited to announce something really special...

The First Annual Night of Writing Narnianly!

This is a spin-off of the official NaNoWriMo Night of Writing Dangerously event that is held every mid-November in San Francisco. Since online meet-ups are so much easier to attend, I thought, why not have our own?

On November 16th, the big write-a-thon event will take place. Festivities will officially kick off at around 6pm CST, and continue until at least 12am CST, if not longer. It will be held in the Narniaweb Chat Room, and there will be lots of pep talks, word wars, friendly competition and more virtual candy, ice cream and cake than you could ever eat!

All participating NWeb NaNo'ers are welcome, and I'm really excited about this. Group chats are already so fun, so why not do a big scheduled one? :D If you need an extra push to get you over the midway hump, this will be the night to do so! Extra special props will be given to those that actually reach 50k during the event, and I JUST might offer some sort of small prizes in the form of custom graphics/whatever for various things.

As you can see, I'm really looking forward to this! :D Keep the evening free, and plan to be there!

Just one thing: can I be on your team? :p

Just kidding. =)) That looks AWESOME, Gymmie! The NWebbers are doing amazing. Not much farther and we'll be at one million! I hope we all can reach two million before the month is out!!

And the competitiveness it stirs up is lovely. I want to move up in the standings so bad. ;))

The Night of Writing Narnianly sounds fantastic! I will definitely be there. No one shall pry me away from my computer that night. ;)) Extra special props for reaching 50k that evening? Hmmm, that means I need to write. . . *calculates* . . . about 32.5 in less than a week. A challenge within a challenge! :D I think I shall go for it. And shall probably fail miserably, but will not let that stop me. ;))

NaNo is so crazy/fun. I don't think it's possible to grasp the full extent of how much it is before you actually participate. :P

That website with the NW NaNoers is seriously awesome!!!!

Don't know if I'll be doing the Night of Writing Narnianly. It sounds amazing but I am an insanely busy college student who is going to be sleepdeprived for the next at least the rest of the week trying to get everything done. Surprisingly, Tuesday is actually the best night for me so I will try to sign in at least for a little bit.

23k!!!! I'm almost half way!

Gymfan: AWESOME! Sounds fantastic, and I'm super glad we don't have anything planned for the 16th!! I really hope to be there!! :D I might be late because of Family Dinner, but we'll see. :) Yay, I'm so excited! :D

You guys are all doing FABULOUS!!! :D I'm so thrilled to see all of these word counts spike! :D

I know that names are a big deal for a lot of us, and I was wondering what kind of names you all have given your characters. Any favorites?

I've had lots of fun coming up with the names for my characters! :D My book is set in another world (Clyden), so I've been able to use a lot of creativity. :)
My FMC is named Arianne. I saw that name "Arion" in a name book and really liked it, so I modified it a little bit. ;))

My MMC is Kelson. His name is probably my favorite! ;)) The name just came to me, and from that point on, I knew that the character would be awesome. ;))

Some of my other favorites are Rhyn and Shai (they're brothers :D ), Himish (he's a hermit), Aspen (I didn't make it up, but it works. ;) ), and Tweedlefuzz...that last one is really weird, I know. :P He's a chipmunk. My brother came up with the name and told me that I needed to use it in my book...then he came up with the idea for him to be a chipmunk. So far, I'm LOVING him. ;))

The Night of Writing sounds like blast!! :D I think that I'll be able to make it.
Thank you so much for setting up the group, Gymfan!! That's awesome! :D

WOOOHOOOO!!!!! :D

I wrote 4,000 words today, which is definitely a new record for me! Whoever it was that directed me to the Write Or Die site a couple days ago (was it you, Djaq?), many MANY thanks to you! I never would have been nearly as productive without the ominous red screen creeping me out and the sound of crying children making my ears burn. :P

I should also thank Gymfan for the NarniaWeb NaNo Tracker website - I love competition and should like to see myself climb out of 17th place relatively soon. ;))

I'm stopping for the day with 20,500 words because, quite frankly, I'm very tired and plan on going to bed very early to catch some well-needed i-) .

I certainly hope to attend the Night of Writing Narnianly - sounds like fun! :D

Keep it up everyone!!!

I used Write or Die today. It sure made me write faster. ;))

The only complaint I have is that my word processor takes about 200 words off my word count when I paste it in! Argh! That's... a lot of words when you do four sessions... On the other hand, I now have a lot of other words, so I guess that's better than nothing.

EDIT: Checking my stats... with Write or Die, I average 3000 words AN HOUR! :-o That's at least double my previous best.

So I thought I wouldn't post all this until I had some thrilling word count to update...except I don't. I'm actually a little behind with 15,855. May or may not get back up to the "recommended count" tonight, depending on my sleep-needing-levels and whether or not there's any word wars going on...

I know that names are a big deal for a lot of us, and I was wondering what kind of names you all have given your characters. Any favorites?

:) Yes...my MC's name is Lark, which was supposed to be only a name but now also reflects on her singing voice. Also, her best friend's name is Georgia (still unsure how that got into a fantasy novel). I was thinking along the lines of George, a la Nancy Drew's sidekick, and wanted something more feminine...now I have an American state in my made-up world

I have officially lost my first year doing NaNoBloPo. (This is on topic, right?) That's National Blog Posting Month...

*brow creases* Hmmm, I was under the impression that this was in October. One of my blogging buddies did it last month. But then again, she's in Norway, so...maybe they have something different? She also called it NaNoBloMo, so I may be wrong.

...Lieutenant Green, in the hangar, with the blaster.

Hahaha, this had me laughing out loud! =))

I found a website that is meant for team word wars, and I added all the NWebbers I could find! Check it out!

Ah, I love this! I like being able to see all the competition right there in front of me - this is definitely going to keep me writing and on my toes! :) Except...I'm not on the list... :- :-s

The First Annual Night of Writing Narnianly!

:D This sounds like so much fun! As of right now, the calendar will be open (and this is on it, so other plans - beware)! I'm excited about this, for serious!

Whew! I'm loving all this NaNo-ing, but what with editing my previous MS and trying-to-avoid-and-utterly-failing-at-said-avoiding writing another novel...my writing mind is tiiiiiiiired. (-|

Currently checking in with 36k words total, and 3.7k words today. I'm not done yet though, I'm aiming for at least 37k before I go to bed. :)
My writing yesterday was awesome in that what started out as a short little re-write of a 400 word scene ended up being a 3200 word scene by the time I was done!! I was shocked at how long Robin was able to lie in bed just thinking (I wasn't aware that guys did much of that, but apparently this one does. :P ). Very cool feeling.
The writing today is going alright word count wise, but I'm glad that I'm going to be taking a break for the rest of the week. I think I might end up all written out after tonight.

Names... the only really interesting one in my book so far is Tobran. He's the only character with an unusual name who's in the book for an extended period of time, that is. ;) I also have an Oswyn, a Wyman, a Warin, and a Lia (this one's a female. :P ). None of them have last names. :P

The Night of Writing Narnianly sounds awesome, and I will so be there! :) *thinks* That's next Tuesday... we get back on Sunday some time... I currently have 14k left to get... I'm might be able to reach 50k that night!! Here's hoping! :D

Love the new chart-thingy, Gymfan! I think it's a great way to establish some extra motivation now that everyone can see just where they rank up against other NWebbers. *thumbs up*

*hops out to do some more writing*

theprincessspy, the reason why you're not on the list is because you didn't post in the NWeb thread on the NaNo site. :) I can't add you if I don't have your username there, and since most people have different user names from site to site, I didn't even consult this thread at all. I'll be happy to add you! :)

That brings up another thing...if you are a NWebber participating in NaNo, please, please post in the NWeb NaNo thread, here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3702615 It's so much easier for me to keep track of people that way! :) You also risk being left out of the final Stats Tally when I do that, if I don't know that you're participating.

The Night of Writing Narnianly, or NoWN as it shall hithero be known, is shaping up very nicely for only having been planned a few hours ago. ;) I'm looking for any suggestions as far as games, activities and speeches go. If you've done NaNo before, consider yourself in the pool to be on the speakers list. ;) I'll be contacting people at random to see if they'd like to participate, hehe! And game ideas would be great...I already have a couple, but I'd like a few more! Anything that is related to writing, works.

Closing out the night with 37,315 words. I wrote exactly 5,000 words today. :D

Gymmie, just saw that you've hit 50k... CONGRATULATIONS!!!! *consider confetti to be thrown in celebration* You are awesome, girl!! (*has a Julian Smith moment* Gymfan is like woah!!! :P )

Off to bed! Keep up the awesome writing! You are all doing great!

Ah green bar, I love thee so! ;)

Well, I made it on schedule! So far, so good. I still have another 50k to write, but I'm over the really hard part. Now hopefully the rest of the story will just come FLOWING out...it's not like I've been sort of stalling it long enough! ;)

Gymfan is at 50,000. I am at 37000. It is Day 10.

*dies*

My competetive spirit is suffering an agonizing death in awe of your word count, Gymmie. Conga-rats on your overall amazingness. *jealous*

Oooh, NoWN sounds great...but I'm not sure I can do it. I will try, though, I truly will... And it is really amazing to see all of us NWebbers together on that stats page.

Re Names: Well, my story is set mainly in Italy, so I've got a lot of Italians. My MC is Enzo, which is a name I fell in love with years ago. Enzo also has a sister called Annunziata, or Nunzi for short. Those are probably my favorite names, though I do have an English character called Morodred, and I'm using several Greek/Roman myth based names like Lamia, Damon, Lachesis, Semele...

My brain cells are all dead right now. I just forced myself to write a thousand words so I'd hit my daily word count.

Now, I have to write another three pages for a paper that I thought was due this coming Monday (the 15th) but I learned today that it's due TOMORROW!!! So I'm staying up all night to finish it. I am so i-) and it's after 11. I'm falling asleep here. I really need to finish this paper.

I procrastinated by e-mailing my cousin and doing NaNo and now coming on here. I need to leave. i-)

Aww, I really want to attend, and I'm very much despising time differences right now. :(( :(( I'll have to get to school.. but hope you all have fun getting your word counts up. :)

On top of this, I'm slightly behind schedule for the first time, today, and I sprained my finger in P.E., making typing a rather slow (and painful) business. I'm hoping I don't fall way behind over the next few days.. :(
