Well, after worrying that I wouldn't make the 1667 words today, I made it, and ended up writing almost 2k after all. Whew. I just really don't want to have an 'unsuccessful day'.
My story is stilll moving very slowly. Is it odd to be four chapters in and not even be through day 1? I suppose it isn't, but it doesn't seem normal when I consider the novel as a whole. (which is, by the way, rapidly spinning out of my planned control) I think I just enjoy describing mundane things like a character walking down a corridor too much.
Keep going, everyone! You all have some amazing word counts that I am in awe of.
I'm off to bed. Tomorrow's the last day of school for the week.. so I can get ready for a weekend of a lot of words.

Also, I have a quick question; does anyone know how to type one of those upside-down question marks that are used at the beginning of questions in Spanish? I can't find it on my list of symbols on my computer, and I had kind of hoped to use it, though it isn't essential...
In Microsoft Word, it's Alt+Ctrl+?.
flambeau - I named a character Flambeau yesterday. I was flipping through The Complete Father Brown for inspiration (what? Chesterton is my all time favorite author, so it makes sense! ) and I was trying to give this character a last name. I could have named him anything, but I decided to be terribly bold and name him after the great thief Flambeau. So now Flambeau he is and he's turning out to be a very Chestertonian character. Anyhow, thought you might find it interesting that your username makes an appearance in my novel.
I hit 10k! A day later than I had planned, but oh well. Maybe it's a good thing that I'm taking this a bit slower than last year...
Now that the website is working for me, I'm adding as many as you as I can find. I'm missdelaney on there and I shall post in the NWeb thread as soon as I find it... I could swear I added some of you last year, but I guess not?

I have a question. Where do you find the plot dares? I'm curious about them, and I need a sub-plot.

winterlife, you can find a whole bunch of plot dares here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3699246
You could also look in the Adoptables forum on the NaNo site, or the forum specific to the genre you're writing.
We have hands that fashion and heads that know,
But our hearts we lost - how long ago! -- G. K. Chesterton
The adoption society is wonderful! I found a sub-plot/plot twist in there but I'm actually not sure if I'm going to use it after all. I might. But if I do use it, my novel will take kind of a sci-fi/fantasy turn which I really don't want for this story.
So I'm hoping that I can either twist the sub-plot/plot twist enough so that it's not at all like the original and will fit into a "real" story or find a different sup-plot/plot twist.
NaNo is still going well. I can hardly believe how well I'm doing! (Not to brag). I mean, last year I started on the 19th and got only 1.5k in the last week and a half and this year, I've got 14k in just four days!
I am totally shocked the high word counts here! You guys are amazing!!! All of you are, even those who are struggling with their stories or have average to below average word counts. All of you are amazing because you are participating in NaNoWriMo. Great job to all of you and keep up all the amazing word counts, all of you.
I just hit 5,419 words. All of my MCs are introduced and I have to start working on the plot and sub-plots. So far I have neither planned or even totally thought over. I just know how the story is, hopefully, going to end, unless my MCs decide differently.

*decided to join NaNo again this year* Even though I totally lost last year. Anyway, I'm a rebel but, I feel like I'll win this year. I've been planning the plotline and all I need is the little "push", so to say, that joining Nano gives. My mom's even been saying, "Hey, did you write your NanoWrimo today?"
Good Luck to everyone!

Every time I think of a quote or witty comment to put here, the quote is not so spectacular and the comment is not so witty.
Well, I'm a bit behind (6425 words) as I close up shop tonight, but that's all right. I had some new characters, some new plotlines. It was a good writing day (if I ignore all the chaotic explanations and dialogues - oh, inner editor, how I miss thee!).
I thought about going further to hit today's goal, but I (finally!) watched the new Robin Hood movie tonight and I have a sneaking suspicion that Robin would be making his appearance in my story in some way, shape, or form if I kept going, and that would be the ultimate end of whatever outline I had in my head. :/ So, no more writing, if only to avoid a complete and utterly inexplicable appearance of everyone's favorite legend.
Everyone is doing awesome!!!

Hey, all! I did a bit of plot tinkering last night and cut out several unnecessary parts. Today I'm going for a 10k day. I need to get waaaaay ahead because we're having a youth group all-nighter next weekend.
Currently I'm sitting at 9.5k... I need to get moving.

I'm quite impressed with some of the word counts here! And it's still so early in the month...but it's nice to have some extra 'words in the bank' so to speak.
Yesterday was a good day so I'm up to about 12.5k with a lot more prose trying to get out. The parallel plots in my story (alternating current events with historical backgrounds/flashback segments) allows me to write in a non-linear fashion. I'm writing all the historical pieces, as they've been in my mind awhile; the current plotline ties them together but will need fleshing out later.
And since I'm writing yet another unabashed Gargoyles fan fiction, I've altered my graphics to reflect that (this avatar of Broadway is the first one I used on the forum, not counting the stock ones available on the site itself).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.
Thank-you, Mel!
Wow, all of you rock with your high k's! *throws confetti*
I am on the brink of... 500. I'm not that discouraged, oddly-- I guess I'll catch up sooner or later. Perhaps a few word wars will do the trick!

11,201 words!
On the one hand, this is great. I'm trying to get as far ahead as i can, since i start a new job on Monday.
On the other hand, like almost every year before this one, i'm spending way too much time on the early parts of the novel. It's like i am pathologically incapable of seeing what needs to be in the beginning, and what does not. Part of the problem in this case is the 'verse i'm writing in (i'm doing fanfiction), but since my second-year attempt would have happily been 50,000 words of my characters gallivanting in the wintry countryside, most of it's me.
I'm tempted to cut ahead, just so i get out of this part and to the main plot of the story! But i don't really like that idea, either. *stomps off to pull her hair out in the corner*

I just hit 10k tonight, mostly thanks to some late night writing and a couple of word wars (I was gone pretty much all day today). Yay! Except I feel as if everything I wrote today is completely random rambling/filler because I'm at a really boring part and I didn't know what else to write.

Great word counts everyone!!! Keep it up!!!
I'm horribly behind on my writing. My word count hasn't changed at all since yesterday. I'm still under 6K words. Fortunately, I'm not too discouraged about my fall back. My story is falling into place nicely and I know how it's going to go for the next few chapters. I have a robotics competition this weekend so I don't think I'll get much writing in. But who knows since I never know when I'll get an inspiration.

I am painfully behind. I have more than 4k to write today to catch up. It's about 1 am, so I don't think I'll get much sleep. I want to write at least 3k of that before I go to bed.
Oh, and I have a new favorite quote!
She sighed as they sat down for a break. “You are so good at this. I always make little mistakes, but your pictures are perfect.”
“I never create anything perfect. I always add flaws specifically for my purposes, and it is the flaws that complete the art and make the strengths obvious. You will never create a perfect painting, but you can make the flaws work for your purposes. That is what every master does.”
