Well, another couple of androgynous names for consideration....
Ashley (I see females use this mostly, but occasionally males will have it too)
Jean (Again, most folks I see who own this are females, but I've seen a few male Jeans)
Jody (I've always associated this with females but in the US Southeast there's a ton of male Jodys. A "jody" is also the name of those chants that soldiers sing out when they're running or marching in formation )
Kennel Keeper of Fenris Ulf
My aunts nickname is Dottir!

I have a female professor named Regulus and I was protesting to a friend that naming your baby girl Regulus was like naming them Archibald or Alastair....
I'm an amateur astronomer and I don't think I'd give my child a star name. (Sirius Black notwithstanding ) But perhaps they're becoming more common.
I'm reminded of a university lecture I attended on the Star of Bethlehem. It began with introductory astronomy, and the comment that Proxima Centauri is the closest star to earth (other than the sun). He then went on to say, "Isn't that a nice name? Perhaps when you marry and have a little girl, you may want to name her Proxima." (This prof seemed ancient to us college kids, so it was like grandpa talking to us).
Kate, I have noticed that numerous names that were once male have become predominantly female: Hunter, Tyler, Taylor, Shannon, etc. Many of these, in fact, began as last names. But I can't think of a girl's name that's become predominantly male (though a perusal of name popularity on behindthename.com indicates that over the years a few males have been given names like Abby or Sophie...).
But all night, Aslan and the Moon gazed upon each other with joyful and unblinking eyes.

The List of 2009's Most Popular Baby Names was released a few days ago. I don't see a lot of difference from what has been, but it definitely seems to me that parents are less traditional when naming their baby girls than their boys. I have cousins named Jacob, Emma, Madison, and Sophia, so apparently we are a very trendy family. I don't really like having a super common name (using last initials in class is just plain annoying), but I do like my name. I think I would probably try to name my children something a little less common.
Alright... I write a lot so I probably will use these for characters instead of kids.
