I'm from the south so I have a pretty odd name, Audra. (In fact, people have called me oddra over the years, as well as Aurora, Ozzball, Auje (ew) etc). My parents are Wendell and Oma, and grandparents Hazel, Shurlie, Audrey, and T (his was Claude, but we called him "T"). Very country names.
As such, I was fascinate with names as a child and what I would call "my" kids. It seemed to go by fads. I can remember them because my dolls and pets bear their names:
Country phase: Billy Joe, Amanda Grace, and Sarah Elizabeth
Latin phase: Leeanna Maria Constantina
Fantasy phase: Guenevere, Elfstar, Katrina, Audrianna Rosamond
80's phase: Zack, Max, Kimber
Days of our Lives phase: Jennifer Melissa, Bo, Hope
LOTr phase (by this time I graduated from dolls to naming my fish): Strider, Whizzer, Galadriel, Celeborn (they started out as Fred and Ethel), Pippin, Sam, Frodo, and Merry
normal name phase: Katherine Elizabeth, Nathaniel Christian or Michael Christopher
goth phase: Raven, Arianna, Lorien, Brenna (raven maid), Lily Catherine
I guess it's good I never had kids. Those poor kids' names! I did decide recently I loved the name Arwen or Eowyn for a kid should I actually ever have one, but went on a baby name page and saw that girls were actually less satisfied with being named Arwen than Audra! Turns out that they get teased because a certain movie came out and people ask them when they are going to marry Aragorn.
I would love Lucy, because her character is so amazing and Christ centered, but that name is a wee bit old fashioned.
Maybe Emily? Too many Emily's, though. I'd probably stick with Katherine Elizabeth, Katie for short, even if that is a bid ordinary!
PS- there is a book about a girl named Galadriel called The Great Gilly Hopkins She was a troubled kid, and I remembered that her social worker found out her name was short for Galadriel and said, "God help the children of the flower children."
Wrong shall be right, when Aslan comes in sight. At the sound of his roar sorrows shall be no more. When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death, and when he shakes his mane, spring shall come again.

The only bad thing about it really besides spelling and misprounouncing is that you can never find keychains and such with your name on it I used to really hate that when I was younger
Hey I can relate to this too, my name is a weird spelling of Charlotte, I'd spell it, but I'm paranoid about somebody locating me from the computer and kidnapping me , better safe than sorry.
But I always hated how noone could spell it right, and how it was never on keychains or mugs.

I knew a girl whose name way Maya but she spelt it Myia...I personally like that spelling better
I love reading through and seeing everyone's names!
About being unable to find mugs/keychains and the like, I can definitely sympathize with that. My name is never on there either--and it's not even that unusual!
Going back to page 1:
My real name is Alissandra.
That is beautiful!
My favorite name of all time is Annah, either short for Susannah or simply Anna spelled with an H. If I ever have a daughter, she'll likely be an Annah. And I LOVE Hebrew names: Chavvah, Hadassah, Elihu, Nathanael.

I know how that feels. My name is an extremely old fashioned name (sorry I won't post it though, as posting my name on the internet is not something I do), and I've never been able to find keychains or mugs with it *sigh* however I can find it on the back of cars. You see there is a car brand that has my name. When I was young people would ask me my name I would tell them and they would say "oh you poor girl, they named you after a car."
I love elvish names too but I'll never name my children (especially my boys) them. It would sound so funny in Russian.
I thought I would post some of my favorite Russian names because that is where I am from and these will probably be the names I will be naming my kids
for boys
Svatoslav (means praise the holy one)
Vladimir (own the world)
Vladislav (own praise)
Vsevolod (own everything)
Keril
Alexander
Dmitri
Ruslan
Lev (that's the Russian spelling for Leo, I don't like the english pronounciation but I love it in Russian)
for girls
Vera (faith)
Nadezhda (Nadia for short-hope)
Lubov (Lyuba for short-love)
Akulina (an extremely old and out-dated name, hardly anyone uses it these days I guess that is why I like it so much.)
Victoria (or Vika for short)
Elizabeth or Elizaveta as we say it (Lisa for short)
Kathrine or Yekaterina (Katya for short)
always be humble and kind

I love the name Luthien, I want to name something that, a pet, a child's middle name, something like that.

I noticed that there are people with second names here, that is so cool because in Russia second names are unheard of. You have your first name, (if you are a girl it will end with and a (there are a few exceptions though) if you're a boy it will end in anything but a (this does not go for abbreviations of names, most abbreviations will end in a whether boy or girl). After your first names you carry your father's name, if your a girl in ends with vna if a boy it end with vich, and then your surname. So if a girls name if shall we say Nadezhda Nikolayevna then you know that her father's name is Nikolai. Also there is no such thing as Mrs. or Mr. in Russian, you usually address you elders by their first name and their father's name.
