Ethan wasn't always popular, trust me. I see lots of folks naming their kids that now, but back in the day (starts the flashback sequence) it was a highly unusual name and I was one of the pioneers. Sometimes I'd hear rumors from friends or relatives that their sister's cousin's uncle's best friend's roomate had decided to name their newborn son "Ethan" and I would shudder thinking what the poor kid would have to go through.
Of course it didn't help that my mom later told me that she had really wanted to name me Andrew but the family overruled her because Ethan sounded more..."poetic". *sighs* Them's the breaks, kids.

Aw...I love that name. I have a friend name that, and people think he's the coolest thing...
No, johobbit, I'd never read that one until now. Speaking of Seuss...that's another wierd name.

My math teacher is named ethan and i am quiet sure he is a lot older then you(he is around 55). Sorry i just can't see how people teased people named Ethan.
My real first name is Lucia.
People tend to mispronounce it when they've read it but not heard it- they'll call me "loo-sha" (Anglicized form) or "loo-chee-ah" (Italian) when it's really "loo-see-ah" (Spanish pronunciation).
And of course, people forget it and call me Cecilia, Lucinda, Lucy, etc.
The other day this one kid told me my first name reminded him of "scrofula" when combined with my last name. Uck.
But after all that it's not too bad. I think it sounds nice overall.
If I'm ever blessed with kids, I'd call them unique names that aren't too outlandish, like:
Rian (from Cyprian, pronounced rhee-an)
Eoin (Owen)
Thea
William
Nell
Petra (fem. of Peter)
Quod Erat Demonstrandum
I can't think of all my favorite names, but two female ones I like are Isabel (Isi [pronounced Izzy] for short) and Cosette. I doubt I would name my kids that... but I still think they're pretty.
Different sort of names that I like for stories/usernames/etc. are ones like: Amestris, Lethalia, Talia, Enya, and... I'll post more later. My mind's gone blank.
As for just plain weird ones... my best friend's aunt named her twins Major and Minor. Kind of sad...

Haha Ben, that's one of my favorites too , although I like the spelling "Elanor" better.
Hmm...my top girls names are probably Bryn (I love that name, I don't know why ) Elanor and Callen. I love nicknames too, so it would probably be "Ellie" short for Elanor and "Callie" or "Cal" short for Callen.
Top boys are a little harder...I like Callen as a boys name too, and probably something unique but not too strange, like "Ashton"..."Shawn" is pretty cool too.
Boy or girl my favorites are (mostly from above) Callen, Ashton, Shawn and Adrian.

How do you pronounce it?
It's funny, but I've already thought of what I'd name my kids. Here's my current list:
Girls: Sashaya, Tamara, Keisha, Amanda, Karen, Stacy, Kaylee
Boys: David Omner, Austin Ordean, Joshua Ammon, Matthew Himni, Jordan Aaron
Sadly, I've heard of several weird names. My grandma knew a family with the last name of "Canoe" and they named their two kids "Ima" and "Sheza" (think about it). I'm not sure exactly how they're spelled, but that's how they sounded. Also, my aunt heard of a family with the last name of "Bear" that named their kids "Black" and "Brown". Sad, isn't it?

FireFairy: I heard of something like that except it was a family whose lst name was Hogg so they named their daughter Ima and Ura. SO not nice...
We had an exchange student once named Lucia, and she pronounced it the Spanish way, she was from Spain. Her name was so beautiful, we almost named my baby sister that!
My real name is Alissandra. Alot of people mispell/pronounce it wrong so sometimes I just have people call me Ali.
Just to throw some more fun in, my dad says (and see if you believe him ) that in his childhood days he knew of two sisters whose last name was Hogg. Their first names? Ima and Ura, two fairly common female names in those days of the 1930s.

There was one named Femal'e.

P.S. Fire Fairy, is your real first name actually Lucia also, or did you just quote Lucy P. cuz you wanted to.

Heaps of people call me dan yelle(said as yell) instead of dany elle

Sorry, georgiehenley14, but my name is not Lucia. I was quoting Lucy P. because I was trying to ask her how she pronounced it. All of the pronounciations she gave (that she said were wrong) are the only ways I know of pronouncing it. It just posted funny because I messed up on the coding.
EDIT: Never mind. I just looked at it and realized that she did give the correct pronounciation. Sorry.

Ha ha. The Ima and Ura Hogg story is true. Their father was a governor of the State of Texas, or so I heard. My siblings and I used to laugh really hard whenever our aunt told us that story.
Fire Fairy: Tamara! That's such a gorgeous name, and really underused. It's my sister's name
