narnian_at_heart: Really? Oh I envy you a lot. But I think the Four Seasons is a hard piece. It has lots of those octaves and pitch shifting, for me. So what pieces do you play mostly?

Cool Elanor, I play the piano too. Just a little bit though. I go to music school and my main subject in guitar and balalaika, but since it's my second year I have general piano classes.

Ooh, sounds awesome. What kind of instrument is a balalaika? I don't think I've heard of it.

I really like this one

Well, I used to play exclusively classical because I didn't know about jazz piano. Now, I play out of fake books and music books of my favorite music books. And I play accompaniment for youth group worship.

As for what particular pieces I play. I try to play that whole list I listed in my last post every day. And then I also play whatever pieces my piano teacher assignmed me. This week it's He Reigns and Who Am I? out of my fakebook.

narnian_at_heart: Wow, I haven't heard a piece of that type of genre in piano before. Hope someday to see you play it!:)

I just love playing the Kanon on violin and piano all over again and again! It is soo soothing to the ears. B-) i-)

I'm a bit confused. What do you mean by "that type of genre"? Are you talking about my typo, "Playing music books of my favorite types of music books"? I meant to say playing music books of my favorite artists songs.

I had piano lessons this morning and they went well despite not having practiced at all this week. (my bad, I know)

This week at youth group, we played "We Bow Down" and I did surprisingly well if I do say so myself. I played much better than I expected. I'm the only one of the instrumentalists who actually knows the song well so it was kind of up to me to stay on track with the singers and stay with them and keep playing no matter what while the guitarists couldn't quite so much.

I've decided to learn guitar. I'm leaving for college in 4 months and I won't have a piano to practice on. My sister says that there was a piano in the lobby of her dorm her first year but I'm not in that dorm. I'm hoping that there's a piano in my dorm too. Anyway, I'd like to get a guitar before I leave and a chord book and just kind of teach myself this fall and once I get to college. I'd like to get an acoustic that can be plugged into an amp.

I don't suppose it helps that I know this one, or at least it won't till I join the team again. :p

You mean an acoustic-electric?

narnian_at_heart: Well, the jazz one. Sorry because I didn't have any letter Z because it was broken, (my keyboard), so I had a hard time rephrasing that word. :D

Well, I don't actually play jazz. I don't like jazz very well. It's called jazz piano but I play contemporary type stuff.

I don't mean to totally go off topic here, but I'm looking for some guitar chords - the F chord and B chord specifically. Every time I try to look for them, I find different versions and I don't know what the right one is. I'd also take some cheater chords for F & B that I can use for those songs that require F & B chords, since I'm having some trouble learning them. Has any one else had/have the same problem, and if so, is there a way to get past it?

You are in no way off topic, you're just covering a different area of the topic. :)
The reason you found so many different ways of playing them is because on a guitar, you can play the same chord dozens of ways, as long as you're playing the right notes for the chord.

Here's one each of the original F and B chords:

Here's the cheater of F I play. It isn't really easy, but it's a whole lot easier than barring. :p

And here's the cheater B chord that I play most often. The diagram says B5, and to only play three strings, but if you play all of them it's a B.

Thank you, winterlife! I'll be sure to try them out. Which strings are you supposed to bar on the original chords? All of them? Bar chords are hard for me to grasp. *sigh*

Yes, you're supposed to bar all of them. On the B, though, since you aren't supposed to play the low E string, you don't have to bar it. You just have to be really careful to not hit it if you don't bar it. :p
