*Joins the list of guitar players.* I love playing, but I'm mostly self-taught so I have a lot of bad habits and it's hard to play with or for other people. I play mostly worship songs and songs by bands I like. Lately, I've really enjoyed "Sleep Well" by Mae, "All My Loving" by The Beatles, and almost the whole of Eisley's repertoire. Their songs tend to work well for my voice.

I play the same kind of music, Kate. I learned on worship songs, and later started looking up other songs online. I have some bands with songs that don't go well with my voice, so when that happens, I make my own acoustic versions. :p

Speaking of worship songs, I've been looking for some fairly easy worship (or even Christian contemporary) songs that I could learn to play, and I thought I might ask the people on this thread. Does anyone know of any? Here are the chords I know: A, Am, C, Csus, D, E, Em, E7, G. Thanks! ;;)

MFF: I recommend teaching yourself cheater versions of B and C#m and then a whole world of songs open up! This is how I play them if I just want to do a quicky version:
cheater B
E-0-
B-0-
G-4-
D-4-
A-2-
E-0-

C#m is just the same finger arrangement, but slid down two frets, with the pointer finger on the 4th fret and the others on the 6th. These two chords, coupled with E and A makes lots of hillsong songs so easy! I recommend searching Ultimate Guitar.com for songs you like. I love this version of Come Thou Fount. Use the "transpose" function to transpose until the first note is E.

Here are links to some really easy popular worship songs:

Come, Now Is the Time to Worship
http://www.worshiparchive.com/song/come-now-is-the-time-to-worship
Skip the Asus4 and just play an A. Or, you could learn the Asus4.

Amazing Grace
http://www.worshiparchive.com/song/amazing-grace
Skip the D/F#. That just means it has a F# as the bass note.

It Is You
http://www.worshiparchive.com/song/it-is-you

Mighty to Save
http://www.worshiparchive.com/song/mighty-to-save

What artists do you like? I could try to find you some of their songs.
And you should learn Bm and F. They are really common.

Wow, I envy all of you guitarists! I can't play that thing in my life, however hard I try... My hands are too small, and it's a whole lot of work for me to reach the chords. ;)) It seems like quite a useful instrument to play, though... I mean, you can carry it around just about anywhere, and it's such a help in praise teams and the like.

As for me, I just stick with the violin and a little piano. I played in a praise team for the first time last school year, which gave me quite a bit of experience in improvising. ;)) But... I don't know, it's different being the violinist. It's more solo instead of support, I guess. Here's one of the classical pieces I've been learning, if anyone's interested. :)

It's slow and easy (and perhaps even a little boring for some), but that's why I like it. It's relieving to have one piece that isn't too terribly challenging, so as to balance out the others. A couple of the other concertos I'm learning are packed with fast passages, huge shifts, & double stops. Oi. :| I tried to find them on youtube, but there weren't any decent recordings. ;)) Anyway.

EDIT: Here's another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stARHAJwz7Y&feature=related

Miss Rosario: Have you tried a smaller guitar? A 3/4 is a little small, probably, but if you look in the right spot you can find a 7/8.

Kate, do you play the Bm chord? Argh, I hate that chord. I can play it.. sorta. But it's very frustrating. Anyhow, you are so correct! When you learn the B and C#m chord so much opens up in the guitar world.

Rosie, a friend of mine has very tiny hands but she plays guitar really good. The key (just as Winterlife said) is getting a small guitar. ;)

Annnnnd for anyone interested, the hymm How Great Thou Art is very easy to play. E, A, E, B, A. Love that song!

Ha, How Great Thou Art sounds really easy! I know a cheat for that key. To play A, slide E up to where your first finger is in the sixth fret, and for B slide E up to the eighth fret. :) Like I said, really easy.
EDIT: PELS, are you barring your Bm, or are you playing the cheater version?

PELS: Yes, I do. Bar chords are annoying--particularly F, but I don't mind Bm that much. For me, it was really a practice thing. For a long time, my favorite song to play was "Lost at Sea" by Eisley and it had all sorts of really fun chords (Dm, Bm, some random variation on C/G) and I played it all the time and eventually, Bm wasn't so bad anymore. Just the same way I'm sure it was hard for you to switch from D to G at the beginning, you can learn to switch to Bm quickly if you practice. :D

Oh, I love How Great Thou Art. I think the version I have is in D, but it's still beautiful.

There are cheater chords for F and Bm.
For F:
e-1
B-1
G-2
D-3
A-3
E-X
That way you are only barring the bottom two strings (much easier). You can also cut out the A string if you want.
Bm:
e-2
B-3
G-4
D-4
A-X
E-X
That way you don't have to barr at all. :)

Winterlife, I play Bm barred. I was taught another way to play it, but personally I like learning the hard way... which isn't always easy for me since I lose patience easily. :p And thanks so much for showing me all that!

Kate, F chord is barred? I never knew that. (I've only been playing about... six months). I play F... un-barred. But I would love to learn it barred. And I'm sure eventually I'll be able to switch to Bm easily... but ugh, it really gets to me. ;))

Ahhh. Well, this just shows how little I know about guitars. ;)) I've tried to play several of my friends' instruments (which must have been regular sized) and figured that was the way they all were.

Soo, thanks for telling me! ;)) I'll see what I can find out.
