I've gotten pretty bad in my guitar lessons, and I also hope to suprise my teacher in the end of summer, winterlife

Well, it's hard for me to push myself that much. I don't like letting people hear my mistakes. But I guess it is necessary.

That's okay. I play guitar. It's a really fun and challenging instrument.

I play guitar too, Winterlife. Do you play electric, acoustic, or both? I play acoustic only. And do you find the B Minor chord terribly hard to play? It's one of the only chords I struggle with.

*sigh* it's hard to hear about people playing guitar. My parents refuse to give me lessons, even if I split my lesson time between that and piano . I'm going to have to try and teach myself .
PELS: I play both. I started on acoustic and bought an electric not quite a year ago.
GtG: The toughest part of teaching one's self is motivation (unless you don't have a guitar). If you want help, I would be glad to help as much as I can through the computer.

I also play the guitar. I have only been learning for half a year, and I agree it is challenging. The biggest problem I have is remembering which note is for which string.

Wow! Good thing I saw this forum. Can't wait to meet other musicians! .
How long have you been playing? I started playing the instrument when I was 4 so, I've been playing for 11 years now.
Have you performed in public? yes, a lot of times. (not to brag).
Are there instruments you don't play that you would like to learn? the GUITAR! I want to learn how to play it!!!
What type of music do you prefer to play? classical ones.. very soothing.
Do you write music or lyrics of your own? well, I tried once but it turned out to be a disaster, but I'm gonna try some other time! .

winterlife: sure I'll accept any help I can get
Glenstorm, when I started playing I hardly had any help. I mostly taught myself by looking up songs and such (Mostly Hillsong United songs which range from easy chords to hard chords often). My brother-in-law (whom is an incredible guitarist) has showed me a few tips here and there, but mostly I've looked things up for myself. Personally, I think it's somewhat more genuine when you've taught yourself, rather than taking lessons.
I hope you much luck!

I will try. I need to figure out how to read chord charts right now...
Hey all! I decided to chime in this discussion, though I may be a little late, but at least I'm here!
So, I'm an amateur guitarist - I know about nine chords so far and I'm hoping to expand my knowledge this summer. I also know a tiny bit of piano - a few chords and such, but nothing much.
How long have you been playing? Oh that's a tough question... I'll try to remember. Well, I've had my guitar for 2 years, and have been teaching myself to play off and on. I've been teaching myself piano for about the same amount of time.
Have you performed in public? Not yet. I'm hoping to learn more so I actually can!
Are there instruments you don't play that you would like to learn? Oh yes... I would love to play bass guitar and drums!
What type of music do you prefer to play? Anything! I like attempting to play some of my favorite songs (mostly Christian contemporary/rock/pop), but worship songs are some of my favorites too. Glorifying God through music is my goal, regardless of the song.
Do you write music or lyrics of your own? Sometimes. If I'm super inspired, I do. Most of the time, I collaborate with one of my friends, who is amazing at writing lyrics. She comes up with the song, and I come up with the music to go with it. Occasionally I'll come up with awesome lyrics, but it can be challenging.
It's nice to be here! Can't wait to get to discussing.

GtG: Do you have an acoustic?
I agree with PELS about Hillsong United. Paul Baloche has a wide variety, too. And Tenth Ave has a couple of songs that are easy in the right keys.
sandyentersNarnia: Hi! What instrument do you play?
MountainFireflower: It's nice to have another guitarist in this thread. Most people play piano, so the conversation usually leans that direction.
