I saw you asking about Zugzwang's Tower strategies DiGs so I thought I'd share a few with you here so others can use it when they get to this point. Different strategies mainly revolve around how much SB+ you're willing to use. Zugzwang's Tower is my favorite place in the game, but I would also contend it's the hardest. Strategy is everything here.
The concept is simple but the execution depends on how lucky you are catching the right mice. You're playing a chess match. To unlock the next hardest chess piece, you have to complete the previous set. Goes like this...
8 Pawns
2 Knights
2 Bishops
2 Rooks
1 Queen
1 King
(And later on, the Chess Master)
That sounds simple enough, except that as you catch mice, your amplifier drops, and as your amplifier drops, it becomes harder and harder to catch any mouse, let alone the more difficult ones.
Because of this, your goal is to catch mice on one side of the Chess Set (Mystic or Technic) and catch them as fast as possible in the correct order. If you catch mice on both sides at the same time, it burns up your amplifier as well as unlocks too many mice, and it becomes near impossible to catch the hard mice and complete a run. Here are some strategies.
Strategy #1: The SuperBrie Only Strategy (really the best available, but uses a ton of SB)
Setup for the Pawns: Pawn Trap of your choice depending on which side you want to go with. Wooden Base with Target. No charm. Super Brie. You do NOT want to catch pawns on the other side if possible, so you want your trap to be as weak as possible. After you catch all 8 Pawn mice, you'll change your setup.
Setup for Knights - King: Zugzwang's First Move, your most powerful base, Power charms of your choice (the more power the better), SuperBrie. Power is everything here because the amplifier will boost your trap power but it won't affect your luck UNTIL you drop below 100% and then it will negatively affects power and luck. So don't bother with lucky setups. Once you catch the King, you'll get a checkmate and be ported out of the Tower to the Seasonal Garden, your amplifier will return to 0% and you begin again.
Strategy #2: A mix of SuperBrie and Gouda (a much cheaper strategy than above)
Setup for the Pawns: Pawn Trap of your choice, Wooden Base with Target, Attraction Charms, Gouda. If you're not using SB, any FTA (fail to attract) you get will drop your amplifier by 3%. Ouch. So attraction is everything if you're not using SB.
Setup for Knights - King: ZFM, Most Powerful Base, Attraction Charms when using Gouda and/or Power Charms with SuperBrie (a mix of the two). The way I personally did this (and you can mix and match however you want), was I used Gouda + Attraction Charms through the Bishops, and then switched to SB + Power Charms for the Rooks - King. You can switch over whenever you want. (Actually when Kat and I first came here they hadn't introduced charms yet so.... )
Strategy #3: Gouda Only (for those who don't have a lot of SB to play around with )
Setup for the Pawns: Pawn Trap of your choice, Wooden Base with Target, Attraction Charms, Gouda.
Setup for Knights - King: ZFM, Most Powerful Base, Attraction Charms, Gouda.
I've had surprisingly good luck with this strategy, but I never really tried it until I was much higher leveled and had a lot more amplifier to play around with.
Some final points I feel I should mention.
~Don't expect every tower run to be a successful one. When I started, I had 1 successful run out of 3. As I started to figure it out, it became about 2 out of 3.
~Really, the goal of this place is collect more mice and get the Spellbook Base. Don't expect to make money here, the only reason you would is if you have several excellent runs back to back while using SuperBrie you've gotten from donations/surveys. Even then, you won't make much. But your points and level will skyrocket.
~Speaking of the Spellbook Base, I didn't mention the Chess Master. To catch him, all you have to do is switch to Checkmate Cheese BEFORE you catch the King. What that does is keep you from being ported out of the Tower when you do catch him. The Checkmate Cheese is also the only cheese that will attract a Chessmaster.
~The infamous Gauntlet Runs. It is theoretically possible to do this but it is REALLY hard. What the unofficial ZT Gauntlet Runs are, are catching ALL of the mice from both sides there in one run. I've never successfully done this, but I've been close. All you do is switch to checkmate cheese to catch your first King, after catching him, switch back to Gouda/SB and catch the mice on the other side. It is very, VERY hard and you can really only do this if you have a nearly perfect run.
~AMPLIFIER!!!! The bane of every mousehunter's existence here. To make it go up, you have to catch mice in the Seasonal Garden. Each mouse is worth 1% - 5% depending on difficulty if you catch him. If you attract but fail to catch, your amplifier will stay the same, and if you fail to attract a mouse, it drops 3%.
In ZT it can only go down. For every mouse you catch it will drop between 1% and ???% (10% for a King ???, but I"m not sure). FTC you'll stay the same, FTA you drop 3%.
If you leave the Tower at any time without catching a King, your amplifier resets to zero and your progress begins again. Make sure you're well prepared before you go in (lots of cheese, charms, and ionized salt for crafting checkmate cheese).
That was a whole lot of info to throw at you at once, and it's kind of hard to understand until you actually get in there and try it, but do you have any questions?
Questions:
1. Does it matter which set of chess pieces you go after first? Is one easier and one harder?
2. How many pieces of ionized salt would you take in with you?
3. What kind of cheese should I use in the Seasonal Garden
4. How high does the amplifier go, and roughly how long does it take to fill it up?

1) Nope and Nope
2) None. You don't have to have it for this section.
3) Gouda
4) 150% until you hit Baron/Baroness and it depends on the season. Spring is the easiest season. Fall and Winter take the longest.
Dunno if anyone has mentioned this, but when you go into the tower... don't leave until your amplifier is gone. It'll reset to 0. I caught mice as low as 30-40% depending on the mouse.
Answers:
1. Nope. Technic mice are worth a bit more gold and Mystics are worth a few more points. That's it.
2. One recipe of Checkmate Cheese uses 12 Ionized salt, so at least 12.
3. Gouda. But the Spring Familiar and Fall Familiar are SB only mice.
4. Lord/Lady - 150%, Baron/Baroness - 160%, Count/Countess - 175%
Depends on the season. Spring is the easiest season by far and it will only take you a couple days. Fall and Winter are the hardest and you'll probably find yourself back at Spring again before your amplifier is full. Maybe not since you have the Cackle.
By the way, I forgot to mention that to unlock the Tower, you have to get each key shard from each mouse that holds it in each season. So it will take you about two weeks to get it.

Bother. I forgot about the Checkmate cheese. . Sorry about that.
I'm heading into the seventh tier of the gauntlet now. I've already caught three fiend mice with nothing, and have six pieces of Tier VII cheese remaining. To better my odds of getting at least one loot drop, I've equipped my ultimate luck charms alongside my ancient spear gun and molten shrapnel base.
Power: 4563
Luck: 47
I really hope that I get at least one potion drop! I'd hate to have to start over from scratch!!!!!

Well Digs, at least you are almost to the top!
Meanwhile I've been at the Mouseleum attempting to save up enough to get an arcane trap... I think I have about 50,000 g to go

Well. . . I just fell off of the gauntler. I am back to square one

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
*takes a breath*
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo
Seriously, I'm quite bummed out for ya DiGs. That is really too bad. I thought for sure you had it in the bag when you started getting all those extra potions around Tier 5.
Well.... I guess you have more time to farm gold for your other trap upgrades you're working on.
*pokes head into thread*
All of this I do not understand. Eggs? Cheese? Mice? Gnawnia?

Aww, come on Mountie. . . . . you know you want to!!!
JOIN US! JOIN US!!! JOIN US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I'm taking this extra time that I've got before reaching Lord in order to craft my enraged rhinobot. My strategy (at present) is to hunt all I can during the day, and I'll spend the night in the gauntlet. I'm not sure how well it will work, but another full gauntlet run is too exhausting right now

for Digs. I didn't get a loot drop this time through the warpath. So I think what I am going to do is start gathering parts for the various traps. I don't even have a drillbot, so I'm thinking I'll hunt in the warpath, take a break go hunt elsewhere for gold, and then pick up a piece of the monstrobot or some more gold leaf for the sphynx trap.
@Mountie: Imagine me looking like this but gray with pointy ears:
Please join, or at least try?!

I'm so close to having that arcane trap I can smell it...

Woo hoo! That's awesome wolf! When I got ACRONYM, I felt like I was "REAL" player for the first time . It's an awesome trap, and you'll use it for the rest of the game!
I'm hanging out in the dojo right now with my stalest trap setup and runic cheese. I just need a few more pieces of cheese before I've got all of the stale SB+ I need for my enraged rhinobot. If everything goes as it should, I'll have the trap by the end of the day.

Actually I'm not talking about ACRONYM yet ... but I'm hoping a lesser powerful Arcane trap will help me out in the catacombs, will will mean I can get the gold for ACRONYM, and the SS Huntington II. The one problem I've had throughout the game is a gold shortage... I'm even considering selling some of my old traps, but I don't think it will help much
