How many shards do I need?

I got the Master of the Dojo with my first piece of Rumble Cheese. It took Princess Rosario 20 pieces of cheese to catch him.

It took me 33 pieces of Onyx Gorgonzola cheese to catch the Dojo Sensei. But my brother caught him with 2.

So the answer is, I don't know, but you can't have too many. ;))

Oh, and by the way, make SURE you are using this Rumble Cheese recipe...
Ionized Salt - 1
Master Belt Shard - 1
Master Claw Shard - 1
Master Fang Shard - 1
Curds and Whey - 20

.... and not this one.
Ionized Salt - 1
Master's Seal - 1
Curds and Whey - 20

The first recipe will get you 3 pieces of Rumble, but the second recipe will only get you 1.

Thank you for the welcomes, everyone! :) I just got to the "Apprentice" rank, which is wayyy less that what you guys have, I'm sure. :P

Just a quick question: Is it a better idea to buy the best cheese possible even though it costs more, or the buy more of the lesser cheeses? Oh, and is it better to update your trap as soon as you're able or save up and buy a more expensive weapon/base?

Well. . . at this stage of the game, I think it's really difficult to go wrong. I wouldn't waste your money on anything higher than swiss as of right now, and use Marble as much as you can (I wouldn't go for Cheddar unless you're hunting in the town of Gnawnia itself).

I'd also say to get up to the mouse trebuchet as quickly as possible. Once you have that trap, you can begin doing things, but as far as bases go, I'd say you'll do fine with the stone base for now.

In other news. . .

I GOT MY GORGON TRAP!

Now hunting in the JoD with gouda cheese, going after the swarm of pygmy mice.

@Silver

Pros of expensive cheese (aka Brie)....
You have a much higher attraction and will get a lot more mice, as well as more difficult mice.

Cons of expensive cheese ....
It costs a whole lot of gold and at the beginning of the game, you may find it hard to make a profit.

Pros of cheap cheese (aka Cheddar)....
It's, well, cheap. ;)) Every mouse you catch will get you a huge profit.

Cons of cheap cheese
You just won't attract as many mice.

I don't know what trap and base you're sporting at the moment Silver, if you have the Wooden Base with Target (which has a HUGE attraction bonus on it) you can get away with Cheddar. Otherwise, I'm gonna second DiGs and say go with Marble. I also second his opinion that at this stage in the game, I wouldn't use anything better than Swiss.

And I would definitely upgrade traps and bases as soon as possible. :)

@DiGs... so glad Kat and I gave you the pep talk about how HARD the Jungle of Dread was... and to not be discouraged if you couldn't catch anything.... :)) Glad to see you're doing so well there. :D And that Gorgon Trap looks awesome!

Yeah, I'm surprised at how well I'm doing too ;)). The gorgon trap paired with the runic base (with some power charms thrown on for extra measure) is working wonders. I've had 11 trap checks since I've entered the Jungle, and caught 6 mice.

I've been going in colour order (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet), and thus have caught the magma carrier mouse, jurassic mouse, primal mouse, and fetid swamp mouse (who looks REALLY scary!!!), and the stonecutter mouse. I also caught a swarm of pygmy mice. So that only leaves the chitinous mouse remaining before I can craft the ancient box trap! (Well. . . I do need to make enough money to buy the last blueprint piece but that shouldn't take too long).

I've currently got 12 pieces of inferno havarti. How many would you guys reccommend before heading to dracano?

EDIT: And as of 8:45 PM, I have caught all of the mice in the Jungle of Dread ;)

In Dracano, everything is attracted to inferno. Dragons used to be the hardest mouse in the game and are still one of the harder ones. I've seen reports of people catching one in 5 or 6 pieces and I've seen reports of 50+ pieces. One of the nice things about the whelping mice is they are 12,000 in gold. So you might want to stay and see what you can catch. :)

I caught another cyclops mouse :D which dropped the cherry cheese potion, I'm trying cherry cheese now, but no luck and only one piece left :( Next time I get some I think I'll try to save a little stockpile.

Okay! Thank you DiGs and FK! :) Well, I currently have the Mouse Mary O'Nette and the Stone Base, but I'll go ahead and upgrade to the Trebuchet as soon as I have enough gold. I was using swiss for a while, but I guess I'll go back to marble because I really wasn't seeing a huge difference in results.

So far, the best I've caught are the Steel, Gold, and Pugilist mice. ;))

I got my first Fairy Mouse a while ago. It dropped the Lagoon map piece. I'm contemplating staying where I am for now though, as I have a little under 150K money. What do I have to have before going to the Lagoon?

* gathered about a half dozen charms from DiGs' fb *

I've revised my plan slightly, in light of my above collecting of luck charms. Instead of crafting my ship tomorrow evening, I am going to wait until either I get home on Thursday or Friday morning, mainly because you can't post new catches if they're caught while using the app. So, since I would have to either sit on my phone or my hands (or both) to keep from blowing the horn during lectures, I'm going to put off my travel and crafting. Patience is a virtue, but I lack it when it concerns the horn in MH. ;))

Well, I caught a Zombie mouse in the Town of Digby and he dropped another Mousoleum map piece, so I'm hunting in the Mousoleum.

I think I'm going to stay here until I figure out what to do next...I still haven't caught a Big Bad Burroughs mouse or a Subterranean mouse in the Town of Digby...I don't even think I've attracted them...So, I need to to that.

Any tips on catching them? :P :)

These mice are highly advanced! I didn't even catch a Big Bad Burroughs until a few weeks ago, and even with my strongest trap setup I only had around a 15% chance of getting him!

I would hold off on these guys. . . they're just too strong.

Okay, I was thinking that was going to be the advice. ;) Hehe.

I'll hold off until I have a stronger trap. I'll go for gold and the Vampire mouse in the Mousoleum right now.

Chloe, you can catch some of the mice with a lower level physical trap. The BBB may take a stronger trap, but the rest aren't that bad. If you have something like the force field trap, you should be good to go.

I was using the Rewer's Riposte and Limelight cheese. I've caught all the mice in Digby except for those two. :) I'll be patient and wait till I have a stronger trap...though patience is not one of my virtues. :P
