Name: Ethan
Nickname(s): on NWeb it's usually SL or Shadow. Off of NWeb my normal nickname (from my Air Force days) is "Stealth Donut"
Country: USA
Age: 38
Personal info: Hrm...well, I'm 38 and married for 4 1/2 years to my wife Laura. No kids but we do have a hyper Rat Terrier. I have green eyes, light brown hair, and mild freckles. I've been described as being....portly.
Professional info: I work for a major Southeastern US grocery store chain. I work at the HQ building and monitor stores at night to make sure no one is trying to break inside. Oh the stories I could tell you! Once you think you've literally seen it all someone finds a new and inventive way to break into a store and blows your mind. I work night shift so it's fairly uncommon to see me on NWeb between the hours of 9am and 5pm (which is usually when I'm sleeping).
Physical Stats: Well, I'm 5'11" and wear a size 12 sneaker. I'm nearsighted and wear glasses, and I'm also left handed.
Most embarrassing moment in last 12 months: I was showing a new person at work how to dispatch on a very important alarm and ended up dispatching the police on the wrong store. Oops!
Favorites:
Books: I don't read as much as I used to, but here's my top 5 favorite books of all time.
1. War & Peace by Leo Tolstoy
2. Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe
3. The Mutiny on the Bounty Trilogy by Nordhoff & Hall
4. Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy (yes, the font is red )
5. The Stand by Stephen King
I like to think it's well rounded.
Movies: Aliens has been my #1 since I first saw it back in the 1980's, and I think it's held up very well. I also like Tora Tora Tora, Predator, Goodfellas, and a host of other films of that type.
Overall: Pah! Aliens, of course.
Epic: When it comes to Epic, Lord of the Rings Trilogy is impossible to beat!
Teen: The Breakfast Club is probably my overall favorite, but I have a soft spot for Can't Hardly Wait and 10 Things I Hate About You as well.
Drama: The Shawshank Redemption. Hands down.
2D Animation: The Secret of Nimh
3D Animation: The Incredibles. No other 3D Animation film so successfully captures the world of superheroes quite like this one. I can watch it repeatedly and never tire of it. Close second would be Shrek.
Rom-com: Sleepless in Seattle. Hey, I'm old school!
Comedy: Anything with Leslie Nielsen in it. Airplane! is #1, followed by The Naked Gun. Honorable mention goes to Blazing Saddles, Caddyshack, and Spaceballs.
Musicals: *scratches head* I don't consider it to be a musical, although I know others do. The original Wizard of Oz, magical since I first watched it at age 5 and I still love it. Close second (again, barely a musical, in my humble opinion) would be the old Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. *sings* Come with meeee, and you'll beeee in a WOOORLD of pure imagination..". Ahem. Sorry, had to get that outta my system.
TV shows: #1 was, is, and always will be Mystery Science Theater 3000. I love History Channel too, so I adore Dogfights and Battle 360 as well. Cable TV show would be Band of Brothers, and I've developed a very healthy love of The Walking Dead. Honorable mention would have to go to Lost, the A-Team, and any of the old Saturday morning cartoons.
Food: Steak and a loaded baked potato. There is no more nobler fare, in my humble opinion.
Animal: Dog. Close second would be the noble crawdad.
Music: I love Classic Rock, Classical, and 80's. My favorite band of all time is The Police. Sting knows how to sing. Weird lyrics, but great songs nonetheless.
Narnia Book: The Horse and His Boy. I love the Arabian Nights feeling the book has, high adventure, and subtle messages of Christ's guidance even when we're not looking for it. The Last Battle is a close second while Voyage of the Dawn Treader is 3rd. Prince Caspian has been my least favorite as long as I've read the books.
History on Narniaweb: I came to NWeb back in the Fall of 2005 while looking for the LWW "Super trailer" (a trailer that has never been surpassed, IMHO ). I discovered the site had a forum and lived for a while in the Narnia & Christianity forum where I gave Doc Ransom healthy headaches from time to time by branching into discussions of food rather than the more spiritual aspects of the Chronicles. God bless him for tolerating me for so long. I seem to recall my first post there but to try and find it would be a time intensive ordeal, so I'll forgo that for the time being.
What I like best about NarniaWeb: I love the people here of course, but a close second would be the wide variety of topics one can discuss. My favorite thread is the Past Movies thread and by far my favorite haunt on NWeb.
Rule most often forgotten by me: Despite my sig I do tend to go off topic from time to time, especially when it comes to food.
Favorite NW memory: The time me and Gandalf's Beard wrote little pieces about what LotR would look like if Lewis had written it, and the Chronicles if Tolkien had written those. They were an absolute hoot. Then wisewoman came in and politely made us stop. My first brush with the Law. It was so much fun to write though!
Comments by other mods:
Shadowlander is an amazing mod to be around. I enjoy his insight and collected manner of dealing with things. Despite his collectedness, however, he can be quite funny, making for a wonderful team member. Glad you're on our team, SL!
SL is a great mod to work with, he doesn't take life too seriously, and he's always cracking jokes and making us all laugh. I always enjoy his posts in the Movies threads (although a lot of the time I don't watch the same stuff as him), and I'll never be able to think of him as anyone but Dwight Schrute.
I barely knew Shadowlander before this week. Now I'm definitely appreciating his fun side as we talk together, and starting to see someone that I'll love to get to know better as time goes on.

Sir-yes-SIR!
*salutes* As you were.
1. Will you please find your first post for me? Goodness, would that I knew how. There's an archive somewhere I could peruse and find it I'm sure given enough time, but it'd take a while and I'm not sure where the archive is.
2. Will you please find those Narnia/LoTR crossover pieces that you and Gandalf's Beard wrote? - Johobbit has em' somewhere. She'd have to post them.
3. What made you draft me into your army? - Well, you seemed like you'd be a good fit. Plus the VW Beetle makes a nice juxtaposition to the Flamvee.
4. Were you ever taken downtown before, to the police station? Negative
5. What's your favorite style of coney dog? Oooh, good question! My love of hotdogs is the stuff of legend . If I could have only one hot dog in the style of my choice it'd be a chili cheese dog with onions and yellow mustard. NY style with sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard would be 2nd.
6. Why does Fenris Ulf have a kennel? Silly question! Because that imposter Maugrim is on the loose.
7. Do purple elephants visit you frequently? - No, but I do see my fair share of pink ones.
8. Do you like being left-handed? I do. It's like being in a special brotherhood/sisterhood thing
9. Does anything annoy you because you're a lefty? (e.g. can openers, scissors) I choose not to whine about it because that'd make us like righties. J/K! Spiral notebooks give me a fit (as I'm sure they do for you too), but other than that I can work with most stuff.
10. Are you allowed to tell us the stories of what you've seen on-the-job? I probably could. I'd have to take out the names and locations, but yeah, I'm sure it'd be ok.
11. Do you get to carry a weapon while at work? (I'm guessing not) Nope
12. Coffee or tea? (Or Red Bull and the like?) Coffee!
13. If you had a different job, what would it be? Well, what I'd like to be is an astronaut. What I'd probably be in real life? Hmmm...moped salesman.
14. Where were you born? I was born on the planet Thanatos VII under the sign of Moonwatcher Krambill who prophesied that my coming would bring great hilarity to a website far, far away. J/K, really I was born in a hospital.
15. What was your favorite book as a young child? *thinks* I had a book my aunt gave me. Back in the day you could get a customized book and put the person's name in it. Your "avatar" (for lack of a better word) in the book was always conspicuously faceless or hidden behind a mask, but in the text it was clear it was you. The book had me as an astronaut who saved some kiddie like alien race, or was at least adventuring with them. It was awesome! You shoulda seen me! *pounds chest*
16. What is your favorite dessert? Strawberry pie. There is no close second.
17. Is your wife a Narnia fan as well? Not particularly. She likes the movies ok, but hasn't really delved into the books despite my constant nagging. If she's in the mood I'll read them to her before bed. We're at the tail end of Prince Caspian now. Her quote? "Wow, this is nothing like the movie!".
18. Does she have a NarniaWeb account? Nope
19. Did you like VDT? (If you've seen it! If not, are you planning to?) I have seen it and have mixed feelings on it. Overall I liked it but if I had to summarize it I don't like the green mist but I do like that they kept the very important scene with Aslan at the end revealing He is known by another name here on Earth.
20. What is your favourite thing to cook? Steak and potatoes.
21. What is your favourite thing to eat? Steak and potatoes.
22. What is the worst thing you have cooked? Macaroni and cheese with tuna in it (tuna from a can). My friend in the Air Force recommended it and it was one of the worst things I had ever put in my mouth.
23. What is the worst thing you have eaten? Mayonaisse. The stuff is pure evil!
24. What do you use that gives you such a nice vocabulary? A dictionary, of course!
25. What is your favourite Pixar film, apart from The Incredibles? If I had to pick a 2nd it'd be Toy Story, although I also enjoyed Cars.
26. Do you like Disney Animation films? They're good, but not really to my taste. My favorite of Disney's old school animation is the original Fantasia.
27. What is your favourite Kenyan food? That's right! You were in Kenya too!!! Truth be known I ate mostly at the hotel and they served European fare, so I didn't get out to eat much locally. Goodness they had some fantastic coffee over there though...it had heft to it, strong in flavor, and yet serene somehow. Mmm...
28. What do you think of the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? There is only one Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. If you're referring to that Depp version, I haven't seen all of it, but what I did was interesting. But no croonings of, "I've got a golden tiiiicket, I've got a golden chance...".
29. What is your favourite Bible verse? Psalm 19:1 - "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.". I want to have it put on my telescope.
30. Martin Luther or John Huss? Luther (if I have one weakness in life it is in theology. I know Luther since I was raised Lutheran, but admittedly don't know who Huss is )
31. Charles Spurgeon or Winston Churchill? Churchill
32. D.L. Moody or George Mueller? Moody I know of, but I'm not familiar with his stuff. Is Mueller the pasta magnate?

33. Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate
34. Strawberry or Chocolate? Oooh, that's a tough one. Can't I have both? I'm going to say chocolate, but only by an inch.
35. Any hidden talents? No obvious ones, but I'm practicing my Christopher Walken impression lately.
36. Any pet peeves? When CD's or DVD's aren't put in the right cases
37.Guilty Pleasures? *looks around to make sure no one is watching* If you promise not to tell anyone, I rather like Sandra Bullock movies.
38.Whats your favorite sport? College basketball
39. Steelers or Packers? I don't watch football, but in keeping with my wife's Wisconsin heritage I'll say the Packers. I even have one of those triangular cheese hats in the other room.
40.Have you ever watched Shirley Temple movies? Yeah, my mom loves Shirley Temple movies, thus we got to see them occasionally growing up.
41. What was your favorite era of the 1900's? the 1950's
42.Do you have a favorite president? Ronald Reagan
43. If you were president for a day, what would you do? I couldn't do much in a day, but I'd do my best to increase funding to NASA and get us a colony on the moon.

54. Least favorite veggie? Eggplant. Blech!
55. Chicken, cow, or pig (for food of course!)? Cow, baby! Beef: It's what's for dinner!
56. Grilled or baked? Grilled. Always grilled. If you take nothing else from this MotW episode, remember that grilled foods always taste better.
57. Baked potato or twice baked potato? Baked
58. Do you think that you interact with less people because you're sleeping through the sunnier parts of the day (that 9am-5pm time frame)? That's a guaranteed certainty
59. Is it weird being nocturnal? Yeah. I've been a night owl my whole life and can tell you there's definitely benefits, but the whole lack of sunshine thing does get to you after a while.
60. Can you please share some of those funny stories you've been hinting about?
Here's one. There was a store that got broken into one night. The suspect was a rather unkempt and burly guy and was very large. He breaks the front windows and walks in and starts picking what he wants out of the cigarette kiosk (cigarettes are the items most sought by suspects when they break in). We're watching on live video and giving police his description when he just disappears off of the video. We don't see him leave the front way and we get no back door alarms, so we surmise he must still be in the store. Police bring in a K9 unit and the dogs can't find the guy, so they're repeatedly telling us, "Hey, he's not in here". Finally the manager who went out to meet with the police calls us back not 3 minutes later and gives us this very bizarre story. Apparently the guy was innebriated (there was a bar next door), and had the jones for a pack of smokes. So he sees the store is closed and thinks "I'm going to get some cigs whether the store is open or not" and proceeds to bust down the front windows. He then grabs his smokes and thinks, "Gee, I'm awfully tired. I'm just gonna go take a nap". He goes to one of the back offices and not so gracefully lays on the rug and does just that. Police found the guy back there and the first officer sort of prods him with his foot, to which the guy (according to the manager, who was eyewitness) goes "Raaaawr" and goes back to sleep. So the officer tries to wake him up again and finally this ginormous dude stands up and starts grappling with the officer, so the officer shoots him with his stun gun. Now most of the time this drops a suspect very quickly, but this one (according to the manager) just made this "rrraaaWWWR" noise, bats it away, and proceeds to wrestle with the officer again. Finally two other officers run in and zap him with more stun guns and it took all 3 piled on top of him to subdue the suspect. *sigh* I would have loved to have seen that on video, but alas...no camera shots in that room.

2. Will you please find those Narnia/LoTR crossover pieces that you and Gandalf's Beard wrote? - Johobbit has em' somewhere. She'd have to post them.
Can I second the motion to have someone (you or Jo) reveal these? I'm curious!
14. Where were you born? I was born on the planet Thanatos VII under the sign of Moonwatcher Krambill who prophesied that my coming would bring great hilarity to a website far, far away. J/K, really I was born in a hospital.
*howls with laughter*
Ohhh! I think someone gave me a customized book once! It was a christmas one, where I got to help Santa at the North Pole. Yours sounds uber cool too, and I wish I could have seen it! I mean, who doesn't love astronauts?!
29. What is your favourite Bible verse? Psalm 19:1 - "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.". I want to have it put on my telescope.
Nice idea! you should totally put it on your telescope! and that's a great verse!
30. Martin Luther or John Huss? Luther (if I have one weakness in life it is in theology. I know Luther since I was raised Lutheran, but admittedly don't know who Huss is )
You were raised Lutheran?! I don't know if I knew that or not. This is sooo cool! (can you tell I'm Lutheran? a PK to be exact) If it makes you feel better, I don't know who Huss is either.

Ok, now that all my commenting is through... let's get to the fun part.
MY QUESTIONS!!
Since you brought up the A-team...

Who do you identify with the most? (again, why?)
Which one do you think I am most like? (and why. are you sensing a pattern?)
Do you think it'd be fun to have our own version of the A-team?
Why is it that Decker had such trouble catching them? (in your opinion)
Have you seen the movie? If so, how does it compare to the show?
And should I see the movie?
That should be enough questions for now! Hopefully I'll be back with more. Oh, and it's been a pleasure being a mod with you, and getting to know you better. I wanted to say thanks for your part in maintaining this forum.
I'm left hand too.
Do you do everything left hand or just somethings? (for example, I write left-handed but cut right handed.)
