Name: The name of Samuel’s mother in the bible.
Any other nicknames(s): Online: Dj, Jack, Dee. Off-line life: Banana, Cory Cook, Hercules Hannah (it has to do with Wii boxing ), and Dish (relating to “Ish Wish Dish” from Dr. Suess ). I don’t have a nickname that is used regularly, but those are some that have been used recently.
Country/area living in: Southern US.
Approx age: Between 13 and 55, roughly.
Personal info: I am a rather bubbly and random person in off-line life, and I’m not sure how I come across online. I am the youngest of six kids (five girls, one boy) and the aunt of 10 (going on 11) wonderful nephews and nieces! One of my sisters (the unmarried one) is also a member (flambeau, as many of you know! Haha! That rhymed. ). I immensely enjoy graphic design, play the piano as often as I can, have just taken up mandolin and love it!
Professional info: I don’t have a “job” but there’s the typical babysitting. I’m also a nanny of sorts for my sisters and their kids. I volunteered at a horse ranch that does horse riding for disabled kids and that was a really great experience! I hope to volunteer there again in the next couple weeks.
Physical Stats: I'm 5'6'' with long medium brown hair (with some natural lighter streaks) and gray/blue eyes.
Most embarrassing moment in last 12 months: Hmm, I’ve thought about this for a while and finally came up with an embarrassing moment.
It was last Memorial Day. My brother had invited some of his friends from TX over and we were all going to go bowling (which isn’t my best sport, but it’s not tragic ). I don’t remember how the game was going, but it wasn’t too bad. It was my turn, so I step up, bring the ball up, take two steps forward, bring my arm down behind me and get ready to bring it forward again as I take another step and release the ball, when it slips out of my fingers (or my fingers slip out of it. Whichever.) and lands with a loud THUD on the floor behind me. I just remember turning around and seeing everyone (especially one of my brother’s guy friends) look at me like “Whoa! . . . Niiiice job!”. It was an interesting moment. I was able to laugh about it though.
Favorites:
Books: The bible, first off! Some of the ones that I’ve recently read or reread are Gods and Generals, Stepping Heavenward and Rose in Bloom. Stepping Heavenward is a really great book! I also like Frank Peretti’s Darkness books and the Veritis (sp?) Project books (Hangman’s Curse and Nightmare Academy). The Narnia books, of course! I like many of Louisa May Alcott’s books, Jane Austen, and that is all that I can think of at the moment, but there are more.
Movies: (in no particular order) The Princess Bride, LWW, PC, Little Women (with Winona Ryder), Sabrina (with Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford), It’s a Wonderful Life, Penelope, National Treasure 1 and 2, Ever After, Emma (the one with Gwyneth Paltrow and also the one with Romola Garai), Pride and Prejudice (’95!!!), Gods and Generals, The Man from Snowy River (the first and the sequel) . . . just to name a few.
TV shows: BBC Robin Hood.
Food: Some of my absolute favorite meals are breakfast casserole, taco soup and this thing that we make with rice, chicken, and cheese sauce (it doesn’t really have a name ).
Favorite animal: Horses are probably my absolute favorites, but I also like most dogs and sometimes cats.
Music: Ooh, I listen to a lot of different music! Some of my favorite artists are Jim Brickman, David Klinkenberg (!), our very own NarniaWebber MissAravis (!! ), Tenth Avenue North, Switchfoot, Owl City, Redcast (sometimes), Robert Pierre, Nickel Creek, Celtic Woman, Josh Groban, Hayley Westenra and I also really like a lot of different soundtracks.
Favorite Narnia Book: I’m really not sure. Perhaps The Horse and His Boy.
History on Narniaweb: I discovered the site in fall/winter of 2007. I joined a few months after that (February 2008). I’m one of the ones who joined without asking my parents’ permission. I’m not recommending that, though. I didn’t post for a few months and just lurked, my first post was in a wallpaper contest in the Fan Art section. It was the first wallpaper I had ever made and needless to say, I didn’t win. After that, I didn’t get on the forum very much for a few months, and then in December (I think), flambeau and I started posting in the Costumes section about how we made our Susan Battle Dress. Last month (January 4th), I got a message from fantasia_kitty asking me to be a moderator, and I said “yes”. So, here I am now.
What he/she likes best about Narniaweb: I have really enjoyed getting to know all of the wonderful people on here! I have made some irreplaceable friends here and I think that the people are the best thing about this site.
Rule most often forgotten by me: Umm... I don't know.
Favorite/funniest Nweb memory: Oh, there are SOO many!! I LOVED the “quest” in the Monastery by Phosphorous, The Black Glove, lysander and StudyMate.
One of the other memories that is one of my favorites is when I was doing “SM’s” (secret messages) with NarniaNut95, princess_of_narnia and Meltintalle (I think that’s everyone) in the Town Square! It was such fun!
First Narniaweb Post: On the old forum, it was in a wallpaper contest, and I don’t think it’s available anymore. On the new forum it’s here.
Typical Sayings(s): “That was weird.” < Usually after I’ve said something. “I don’t know what I’m saying!!” < That one is very typical. (especially after 10:30 p.m,) Whatever movie line is going through my head at that moment. And, there are probably several more.
Comment by another mod:
Djaq is a wonderful person, an amazing graphics maker, and a great Mod! The first time I saw her on the forum was shortly after I started watching the BBC Robin Hood and I got all excited at her name. Caught on a random whim, I sent her a pm, telling her that I liked her name and, seeing as she had no posts yet, welcoming her to NW. As time progressed and she didn't respond, nor did she post, I grew rather afraid that I had scared her off with my rambling, out-of-the-blue pm. Needless to say, I was quite happy to learn that was not the case and increasingly thrilled as I got to know her more. At any rate, it's been completely lovely to have Djaq on the Mod team! ---Valia/ValiantArcher
I forget when I first noticed Djaq, but she's not the type of person to pound into one's life; instead she comes softly and gently, like sweet rain moving across the land, and you are struck by her graciously confident presence and her steadiness and sense of fun.
A bit poetic, there, but that's how I see Djaq. She's a dear, dear person and I always enjoyed our encounters before she became a mod, but now even moreso, as getting to know her better is such a privilege! She is mature beyond her years and she has her values and priorities set in the right places, to be sure.
Djaq, and here's to many more years on Narniaweb together!
