[Closed] Misconceptions as Children

Wow, what a fun thread! Thanks for sharing everyone! (And Mel, I laughed so hard at your Pilate story! =)) )

I had a few misconceptions. First, I really thought you could be frozen solid under the water for days and be just fine. This was thanks to Star Wars and an animated version of Thumbelina I saw as a child. :p I was genuinely surprised when I found out in *cough*high school*cough* that people who've been frozen have brain damage if they survive at all.

I also thought the Beatles were the "Beetles." I thought that was kind of cool since I liked insects. I only found out later how they spelled the name.

Oh and thanks to the "Ask a Brit" thread I now know that Guy Fawks isn't pronounced "Fox" but "Forx." That wasn't as a child though.

I used to think that chairs were alive and evil, and would eat me if I sat in them when my parents weren't there... :p

This one's not mine, but I was reading a Narnia book to my five-year-old little brother the other day. When I finished, he looked up at me with wide eyes and said, "Let's go check all the closets for Narnia! I wanna see Asland!" (Yes, he says it with a d) =))

I held back my laughter and told him that you can't get to Narnia through a closet, you've got to have a wardrobe. ;)

He thinks we should get a wardrobe. ;))

Wait.

Are you implying Narnia isn't real? :-o

I used to think that Monday was the first day of the week because of school, and would get into arguments with people who told me otherwise :p

:-s Of course not!!! I just had to smile because he was so very serious and determined to find Aslan -- and it isn't that easy. If only it were .... I'd already be in Narnia and no would ever see me again! :D

You aren't totally wrong here. Some countries hold Sunday as the first day of the week, such as North America of course. But there are countries that hold Monday as the first day of the week. Living in the US I follow Monday as the second day but "secretly" agree that it should be looked on as the first day- (considering also that Sunday is part of the "weekEND").

When I was little, I didn't understand the concept of reruns on TV. I just thought the actors all pulled out the scripts and redid an episode that was already on. And I didn't know about laugh tracks either-I thought there were people in the audience who all waited silently for the joke and laughed simultaneously.

^ Haha, that's so funny about the reruns!

I completely agree about the laugh tracks, I never thought for one second there wasnt an audience there, and I went through a small phase where I thought people were paid to sit, watch the filming, and laugh in appropiate spots

I thought that too about laugh tracks. And I still don't know what the point of laugh tracks is. I guess to tell the people watching when to laugh, but why? Why can't the viewers laugh when they want to? Why do they need to be told?

When I was a child, I was paranoid that I would someday see a cat in my bathroom. I don't know why. I thought that if I saw a cat in my bathroom, that I would be cursed and die. And I never watched horror movies as a child (or after :P ) I don't know where that came from...

Just remembered this one: For the LONGEST time, I thought concentration camps were where people were sent to be all monk-like...sitting in silence...basically, concentrating. XD If only my idea was the real thing... :-s
