sillygoose, I have the same thing as you--that is, a large forehead. Since the age of fourteen I've always had bangs of some kind...very occasionally I'll put my bangs back with a hairband for work but I always feel practicly bald
In other hair news, my hair has been acting very strangely lately. For the past couple of years my hair has been fairly normal--that is, I could go a day without washing it and it wouldn't look hideous...I could wash my hair the night before and still expect my bangs to look good the next day. Then about a month ago everything went haywire. My bangs are constantly going "stringy", like seperating into little pieces, soooo annoying and nasty looking! If I wash my hair one day, it should be fine for the next day but it's not, it's all limp and gross again. Ugh. I have no idea why it's doing this either! I've tried every kind of shampoo, tried going a few days without washing my hair, tried washing my hair everyday, etc. Nothing works. I can only hope that it gets out of this funk before too long!
"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring." Marilyn Monroe
Highlights can definitely spice up a haircut, Elanor. And as for good ideas, you can always ask your stylist! They often have good tastes and suggestions - they did go to school for it after all.
Side bangs are also a lot of fun. True, they can be annoying at times (especially on windy days, ugh), but they add a nice look to your face. I'm currently trying to grow mine out so I can get them cut again... they're super ragged and weird.
Ugh, I hate it when that happens Val! My hair is in one of those horribly greasy stages, I have to wash it every day. And there's nothing as frustrating as getting stringy bangs and having them separate into little pieces. Ew.

Val, perhaps you could try washing your hair using baking soda for a bit, until your hair gets back to normal? I have no clue whether or not it damages one's hair, but I've used that only for months now and I can go for about three or four days without it being greasy and in need of a wash. I find the baking soda really takes the grease/oil out, and it leaves one's hair with a really clean feeling. It also makes it look really nice. There's a certain word for it, but I can't find it at the moment. Perhaps not-stringy is the best term. Just a suggestion, of course.
Dear days of old, with the faces in the firelight,
Kind folks of old, you come again no more.
(Robert Louis Stevenson)
I'm not sure that I dare bring up highlights yet - but I'll store some idea's in the back of my mind, and wait a few years.
I would die without my side bangs. The last time I got a haircut, the stylist cut some really nice one's, and every few months I cut them again, to get them how I want them. When I'm not being lazy, I straighten them, and then they (usually) look exactly how I've always wanted them to. Otherwise, I just let them be curls at the top of my head. They're long enough that they don't just frizz up.

Hey there, everyone! I had a quick question:
Do you think I could go about achieving this hairstyle:

Now here's the thing--my hair is extremely thick. Like, we're talking rope thick. It's cut in layers, and the longest layers hit around my upper chest. Should I wait for it to grow out more or is the length alright? Also, I have side bangs; would I just brush them back or leave them be?
Thank you so much! Sorry for all the questions, I just really want something new to do with my hair.

Holmes- I think you could try it! I have side bags too, so when I do hairstyles I leave out the side bangs. Or you could try to pin them gently back to where they look a bit fuller. You could also tease them first and then pin them back. Your hair sounds long enough to do it. I also have thick hair, so instead of bobby pins you could use those spin thingys from Goody. They take the place of like 25 pins. Well.... Good luck! I hope it turns out good!
I tried 1940's victory curls and it was a disaster!! Way to many pins and curls to deal with!

Spin thingys from Goody? I'm afraid I have no idea what those are. Could you please give me a link to them, so I'd know what to look for? Thanks for answering me so quickly.
Oh my goodness, 1940's curls sound horribly complicated. I admire you for trying it out, though.

Sorry about that Here is a link to what they look like

You can buy them in different hair colors so they blend in. I hope this helps!!
oh and about the hair style: They are a style that was worn in the U.S during world war II. It was a way for women to keep hair out of there face but still have style as they worked in factories and what not. If you look it up, its a crazy style!! Very complicated.

Do those spin pins really work? They look sort of painful...

How do those work? I really love 1940's dresses and (some) hairstyles. So, when I dress with something a hint vintage, it looks... awkward if I have just braids over the outfit.

I tried these spin pins recently. According to the instructions in the package, you twist your hair into a bun and then twist or "screw" the pins in. I have read lots of reviews on these things and it seems like they work for the majority of people, but I wasn't able to get these to hold a bun without it sagging on the back of my head. They do hurt for me to use, but I have really thick hair, and I think I may be more tender-headed than most people. (I have a hard time putting my hair up at all and keeping from fussing with it because it is uncomfortable.)
That's my opinion of the pins, but I'm just saying I may be in the minority. Don't be deterred from using them just because of my experience.
My aunt had some of these and they kept my hair up. And mine is short. They are fun to try!! I'm sorry Lady Galadriel, that they did not work for you. There are tons of stuff for doing buns. I found some cool stuff at Ulta that is for making buns. Maybe you can find something less painful. I can look myself too.
CSLewisNarnia, The book I used is called Style me Vintage. The Beehive is one of the most styles still used right now. It takes so many tries to get it right

Okay, so a question about foundation:
Do y'all normally use powder or liquid? Which would you recommend? And which brand, for a decently cheap price?
Anything I could pick up at Wal-Mart or Walgreens or something?
I heard somewhere that liquid is better since it doesn't have oil products in it or something?

I use powder - but again, that's the only stuff I've ever used, so I wouldn't really know. I think it's probably better for every day, but then again, I could be wrong. I got mine at Walgreens, and it wasn't very expensive - but I can't remember the brand name, sorry!

QS, I always use powder too and also have never tried liquid. I want to some day, but liquid foundation can clog up your pores. Not really something you want to wear every day. Makeup Geek herself only wears liquid foundation for special occasions, like going on a date.
OK, on a random note, I just found this picture and had to share.
I'm in love with this look. Have been for a while, actually. I'm still on the hunt for a gluten free red lipstick so that I can pull that off. Though I could go without the heavy under-eye liner. Don't think it's all that flattering and rather draws away from her pretty blue eyes.
