Well obviously I speak English, and I speak Vietnamese at home, but I can't read it. I've been taking spanish since 1st grade and i still have the vocabulary of maybe a quiet 3rd grader lol.

I speak English, of course. I know a little bit of Latin. Latin is great. If I ever want to choose a second language, it would be Latin. A lot of people think it's a dead language, but it's actually really useful for understanding your own language, since so much of English came from it. It's like a lesson in origins.

I'd also really like to learn hebrew so I could read the Bible in its original form.

I'm in spanish class at school( a first year) but the spanish teacher wants to be a cowboy and doesnt teach us anything and just sing songs and gets mad at the tip of a hat.

Living in California it would be really good to know spanish- I dont think I'll ever learn it :p

Wow, I'm sorry you got such a bad teacher. He wants to be a cowboy? He/she sounds almost as my friends teacher, who always talks in third person, talks while people are doing their homework, and uses puppets to teach the class. And he's a highschool teacher! 8-|

Same here. I'm in Cali, but not too keen on learning Spanish. I much prefer learing Latin, hebrew, or Chinese. :D

I have had the pleasure of learning several languages, but it's been a while...

Our class began learning French at "junior high" (a teacher came weekly from the nearby high school), which I continued right through high school and into two years of university. I can still manage a basic conversation, but last really used it in 2002 while on holiday in Ireland where I chatted to a French couple for two hours. Husband said my French was better than his English - think he was being kind, but it was fun.

At school I also did 3 years of Latin (really enjoyed its value for understanding my own language's structure and meanings), and two years of German - which I did for one more year at University.

In my third year of university they offered Maori for the first time, so I enrolled and learned a non-European language for the first time.

When I finished my degree I did Bible College study, which included Greek - discovering that grammar was yet another thing the Romans borrowed from the Greeks.
And that's about it!

There, shining in the sunrise, larger than they had seen him before, shaking his mane (for it had apparently grown again) stood Aslan himself.

I speak English (Its my motherlanguage!!) and I'm studying German at GCSE, which is good!
I can also remember a bit a French and a tiny (Really tiny) bit of spanish, but not enough to survive in a conversation :-s
Also, I've been listning to films with Icelandinc subtitles because Icelandic sounds really cool! I know how to sing 'Tru loves kiss' from Enchanted in Icelandic, but I'd dumious to my speach accuracy :)
Its worth a try though, and quite fun and maybe it will come in helpfull one day.
Has anyone else learned a language this way? :D

I speak pretty much only English, but I have to take 2 years of Spanish (or here its more like Mexican XD) for school, though I really want to take German, which my school got rid of about 6 years ago. I took some latin in 5th grade, but I dont remember much of it now

Aslan'sJewel: I know it can be disappointing not to get to study the language of your choice, but I would encourage you to really enjoy your years of Spanish. It will be far more practical for you living in Texas and will probably help you get a job someday. I live in California, and I love being able to speak Spanish.

I never really felt like Spanish had the same beauty that some of the other languages had, but now, finally, after about 6 years of the language, I'm starting to fall in love with it. This quarter I'm taking a Spanish literature class and I love it. Spanish is so beautiful in poetry.

French is my mother tongue and I've been studying German for almost seven years, although only three of those seven years were actually worthwhile! I started college in the fall and wow, we really learn more in college than in high school! I'm looking forward to studying abroad in Berlin junior year :) And I'd like to learn Russian someday...
